Hi all

We will be celebrating Christmas with our entire family this year. My parents will do main/ brothers & wives the rest and we are in charge of bringing pudding. 😂
What do you usually eat for pudding on Xmas day? We're not fans of the traditional Christmas pudding. So any other ideas & where to buy from? My friend suggested M&S puddings so will have a look into that. Any other ideas? Tia x

We have profiteroles (for those of us who don't like Christmas pud) from M&S.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/12/2022 22:42

Is everyone not a fan of Christmas puddings or just you? I’d probably do a selection of things, mini Christmas puds for those who like, I bought some yummy Bailey’s cupcakes from Asda a few years ago that went down well at a family get together, roulade, cheesecake.

Our go to desert for the last couple of Christmas’s has been meringues, cream, mixed berries, sauces (salted caramel, chocolate), fruits, gourmet popcorn, Brandie snaps. This year I’m adding some little chocolate elf’s I found in Aldi. It’s all served on a giant platter, all nicely spread out. There is something for everyone. I also make sure I have plain ice cream and sprinkles in case that all the dcs want.

Sherry trifle

PritiPatelsMaker · 05/12/2022 22:45

God knows. I did buy one smallish Christmas Pudding for the 4 of us but somehow we now have 10 so I need to buy some extra too! Lidl usually do some really nice ones.

NewToWoo · 05/12/2022 22:49

I do/have done in the past:
sticky toffee pudding with loads of toffee sauce
chocolate yule log roll with black cherries and whipped chantilly cream inside
toffee yule log with biscoff icing
trad trifle
tiramisu

YuliaJollyberry · 06/12/2022 00:44

There is always a crowd of us so we have a few desserts, all pudding shaped! With a variety of creams, sauces etc to go with. Besides the Christmas pudding we’ll have a steamed sponge or sticky toffee, an ice cream concoction of some sort and we still have a jelly for the littlest who is no longer little.
This year I’m also going to include a pandoro which is an idea I got from another thread, looks amazing and is really simple to unwrap and display!

If we didn’t have the above tradition I’d most certainly be having itsssschristmasss’s meringue platter it sounds delicious. We have a meringue wreath for dessert in the days after, I’m inspired to serve undressed with add your own toppings this year.

Trifle (made with swiss roll, jelly, tinned fruit cocktail and set custard!)

Meringue - maybe a roulade with lots of fresh raspberries and cream

Chocolate yule log (the big fresh cream one from M&S)

FixItUpChappie · 06/12/2022 02:01

I made grasshopper pies last year which were very easy to make and which went over well....with everyone but my husband (sigh~). So I also need to find a new pudding...though I might make one just for me Cake

I've never made a trifle....that might be worth trying.

SweetPeaPods · 06/12/2022 02:40

Can't go wrong with M&S. they do a lovely pannacotta.
We normally have a cold dessert so cheesecake, profiteroles, trifle, pannacotta etc.

Orormno · 06/12/2022 06:40

Christmas Day puddings for us are
Christmas pudding
pavlova
trifle

Christmas eve pudding is a fresh cream Yule log

Boxing Day pudding is whatever else caught our fancy in the festive deserts section, this year we have a profiterole wreath plus left overs from Christmas Day

The rest of the year our favourites are tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée

Roselilly36 · 06/12/2022 06:44

There will only be us 4 for Xmas day, DH will make tiramisu, we may have Christmas Pudding, not that our sons will eat that, but they love tiramisu, very easy to make too.

Icedlatteplease · 06/12/2022 06:49

Jelly and homemade brandy butter

HowVeryBizarre · 06/12/2022 06:53

Nigella’s buche de Noel is our favourite. Other than that we have Christmas pudding ice cream and pavlova as we are in a hot climate.

CheapWine · 06/12/2022 06:59

I love Christmas pudding, just not at Christmas! It’s too heavy.

I have bought a lemon, meringue, roulade from Lidl, which we put extra lemon sauce on (M&S) and extra cream.

I’ve also ordered These - although it looks like they’re sold out now for ordering.

i also have a Vienetta 😂 because the adult DC and DH insist, since all of us have had one every year since DH and I were children.

boogiejive · 06/12/2022 07:04

I usually make a cheesecake from the Janes Patisserie website. Terrys chocolate orange has been the most popular so far but After Eight was very good too. This year it's the lotus Biscoff.

kels32 · 06/12/2022 12:22

Thanks for the ideas!
They all sound delicious
I'll have to do some research of where to get them from. I will buy them all ready made as we have 3 very young DC and 0 time to bake 😂

This year we are having the profiterole dessert (profiteroles & chocolate mousse) and a hazelnut & caramel s'mores dessert, both from M&S. as well have offering mince pies, ice cream and stollen.

I generally have my dessert around mid afternoon so will keep some aside before the in Les eat it all or share it out between them to take home!

BrieAndChilli · 06/12/2022 12:46

I'm doing:
Christmas pudding
Chocolate orange Cheesecake
Raspberry trifle
and then thinking something lemony

Trisolaris · 06/12/2022 12:58

www.cookfood.net do the best desserts. My favourite is the salted caramel and chocolate pavlova

GettingStuffed · 06/12/2022 17:14

We haven't decided yet, we have Christmas pudding hut 2 people won't eat it, was thinking about doing a cheesecake. We've done Nigella's maple syrup one in the past but it makes enough for a village

Starlitexpress · 06/12/2022 17:23

Usually do sticky toffee pudding but am considering Nigella's sunken amaretto cake, is christmas the right time to try a new dessert though??

AdaColeman · 06/12/2022 18:00

Baked Alaska would be something different, you could flambé it as you would a traditional Christmas pudding.

Individual Mont Blanc made with meringue nests.

Tarte au citron.

Crepes Suzete, make the pancakes ahead or buy them, make some fresh orange butter cream. Spread the butter cream on each pancake and fold into quarter shape. Assemble layers on a plater and cover with foil. To serve: heat in oven with foil in place, then dredge with icing sugar, serve with a glass of orange liqueur.

AllTheAll · 06/12/2022 19:18

We always have black forest dessert since that cherries and chocolate combination is a traditional flavor for christmas dessert for us. Probably a black forest yule log swiss roll thing this year.

Sidking · 06/12/2022 19:20

At home - trifle and Yule log
At my mum's - trifle and butterscotch meringue
