What can I get my DiL for Christmas?

We have as a large family decided on a secret Santa instead of all buying presents for each other this year. We plan to spend £25 - £30.
I have drawn my DIL. In the past we have given her cash. What would a thirty something year old with no children like for a present?
I had wondered about something ‘Jo ‘ but perhaps too expensive.
All suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you.

What do you know about her? Her likes and dislikes, hobbies etc

FancyFelix · 04/12/2022 16:46

In that budget I would buy clarins hand cream for any woman

Mercedesbenz2022 · 04/12/2022 16:46

Well she is not a generic daughter in law , what are her hobbies , likes , dislikes , I have a daughter and 2 dil in that age range and I would buy them all different things

Gamjs · 04/12/2022 16:58

I don’t know her particular well, because of distance we only meet up once a year! I’m ashamed to say I’m not aware of her interests. She’s a deputy head teacher and spends a lot of time with her mother and family who live close to her.

Could you ask your son for a steer?

MisgenderedSwan · 04/12/2022 17:05

How about gift vouchers to a nice cafe near her house, or somewhere she gets her nails or hair done? Something nice for their home or a fluffy electric throw?

Bath and body works stuff from Next? (I love the scents) luxury food hamper with her favourite foods, chocolate or cheese or whatever she likes?

Mercedesbenz2022 · 04/12/2022 17:06

hmm Difficult
i didn’t mean to sound so arsey

Justcallmebebes · 04/12/2022 17:10

Some lovely warm lounging pj's?

emmathedilemma · 04/12/2022 17:12

What is something ‘Jo’??
how do you not know what your DIL interests are? Surely you’d know if she goes to the gym, or runs marathons, or has her nails done, or reads a lot??

Svet19 · 04/12/2022 17:15

A pair of wool mittens or wrist warmers? So useful for cold winters

Smarshian · 04/12/2022 17:15

Katie Loxton pouches go down well with most women I know of that age. I went out with some friends in the week and several had them.

Ponderingwindow · 04/12/2022 17:16

I would ask your child about DIL’s interests and hobbies and then go from there. Or just ask your child for some specific suggestions. Much better to get something specific to the person if you are doing secret Santa within the family.

My DIL choose a teachers planner one year, she isn’t a head, just a newly qualified but would some kind of planner be of use to her?

Planner

hattie43 · 04/12/2022 17:18

Neom candle

Leeds2 · 04/12/2022 17:18

Lush gift box.
Cheese and biscuits/chutneys hamper.
Bottles of wine.
Soup maker (just got one and I love it!).
Perfume (ask son what she uses).
Cook books.

PandaOrLion · 04/12/2022 17:21

She sounds similar age/job to me and I wouldn’t like any of the things listed so far so just adding in a few suggestions of alternative things.

  • recipe book for something like Ottenlengi or somewhere a bit different like Persian food.
  • plants and nice plant pots
  • annodised steel wok
  • books (although a bit specific)
  • theatre vouchers
  • v60 and some coffee
  • seasoned/scented logs for the fire.
I really wouldn’t like a candle or hand cream - I love them both but I don’t like a £30 one more than I like a £10 one!
NancyJoan · 04/12/2022 17:21

Tell your son/daughter you would like buy their wife a voucher, and ask them to suggest something. Could be food/beauty/books/fashion. Or, if they live near a John Lewis, which stocks everything, get that. I’ve had a JL voucher from my MIL for the last decade, and I’m very grateful for it.

clpsmum · 04/12/2022 17:34

An afternoon tea for two voucher

AdaColeman · 04/12/2022 17:38

Cashmere gloves, you should get them within your price range, try M&S or John Lewis. Other cashmere items you might consider... beanie hat, scarf, snood.

Prestat or Godiva chocolates.

Bottle of gin or whatever she drinks.

Something for the garden, bird feeder for instance, plus a book about garden birds.

I wouldn't be too thrilled with hand cream or a candle.

Gamjs · 04/12/2022 17:47

Jo Mallone perfumes. I’ve heard of a few wanting them but I wondered if it was the wrong age group

Some fashion jewellery maybe? Missoma or Astrid and miyu? Something food related? A Betty's tea room hamper. Make up? Charlotte tilbury gift set

toomuchlaundry · 04/12/2022 17:58

Don’t you talk to her even if you don’t see her very often?

BloodyMabel · 04/12/2022 18:01

This is a nice gift set, classic and beautifully packaged? Here
Or some small earrings she could wear for work?

Cornelious · 04/12/2022 18:11

How about a nice candle? I love Neal's Yard candles.

imsureineverdo · 04/12/2022 18:13

I'd go with anything from Jo Loves or Jo Malone if that's what you'd think she'd like. I know I would!
