What can I get my DiL for Christmas?

We have as a large family decided on a secret Santa instead of all buying presents for each other this year. We plan to spend £25 - £30.
I have drawn my DIL. In the past we have given her cash. What would a thirty something year old with no children like for a present?
I had wondered about something ‘Jo ‘ but perhaps too expensive.
All suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you.

You won't get a Jo Malone perfume for £25-30.

FleasNavidad · 04/12/2022 18:32

I wouldn't be thrilled with cashmere gloves although I'm older. Nor perfume or candles.

It really does depend on her interests. Wine and cheese or something really personal. A framed quote by her favourite band/singer/tv show? A weird lamp (but I'm weird)

I'm mid-30's an a candle or expensive hand cream - whilst appreciated - would just be lost on me. I'd use the hand cream but the candle would just stay in a box. What food/drink does she like? I'd much prefer a nice box of chocs/bottle of something that cost less than £30 than my MIL feeling she needed to spend more and getting me something I wouldn't use. My BIL buys me a bottle of plonk and whatever batteries fit the toy he's got DD 😆 and that's enough for me!

Voucher to get her nails done or a facial at a local salon / spa? Does she like drinking? If so they do nice cocktail kits here...

Jo Mallone perfumes. I’ve heard of a few wanting them but I wondered if it was the wrong age group

You’ll not get far with your budget plus scents are very personal.

Moonshine86 · 04/12/2022 18:42

A silk pillow case? They feel so lovely and great for the face and hair.

NerrSnerr · 04/12/2022 18:51

I'm in that category and I'd like the Stephen King novel and a bottle of gin within that budget.

Honestly, just ask your son for ideas. The hand cream and posh candle/ perfume wouldn't be for me and if I had cashmere gloves I'd probably ruin them in the rain or snow.

DIL in her 30s is too big a category for you to get her a fail safe gift (unless you get her a voucher for somewhere generic).

How about a mumsnet voucher for £200-worth of "Hot Chocolate". It's madly exciting apparently

LegoLady95 · 04/12/2022 19:02

Turtle doves cashmere fingerless gloves. £35 but new customers get £10 off.

louderthan · 04/12/2022 19:05

Restaurant gift voucher
I would always be pleased with nice bath/skincare stuff, especially from an independent/ethical/sustainable brand.
I would really appreciate something related to my hobby

Ooh good shout! I love mine.

bananaboats · 04/12/2022 19:07

I'm in that age range and would like a nice candle of a decent bottle of gin. A voucher for the salon I go to or a local restaurant would also be welcome but probably not a more generic one.

In that budget I would buy clarins hand cream for any woman

No thank you! I hate hand cream and never use it. Not all women do.

stuntbubbles · 04/12/2022 19:14

A novel from Persephone Books and a fancy chocolate bar. Or a £30 Waterstones voucher.

But realistically none of us can tell you because childless 30something women aren’t a hivemind of likes and dislikes! I’d hate handcream, gloves or wrist warmers: they all scream “I don’t know what to get you”.

CrotchetyQuaver · 04/12/2022 19:19

I would ask your son

Movinghouseatlast · 04/12/2022 19:25

How about a Jo Malone shower gel? I would go for one of the lighter florals, ie nothing too strong that she could dislike

Squeezedsquash · 04/12/2022 19:30

I would get the turtle doves cashmere gloves on the offer mentioned above and a small amount of nice chocolates, if you truly don’t know her that well.

converseandjeans · 04/12/2022 19:33

I've just put neom diffuser on my list - it's on offer in M&S @ £40 which is slightly more than you wanted to spend. But it looks nice.

Scout2016 · 04/12/2022 19:35

Being female, in your 30s and childless aren't personality traits. Does she post on social media, would there be any clues or hints there? Are there no indicators in her home? Or in any photos you have of her?

Otherwise ask your child or one of the family who know her better. What activities do they do as a couple? I would hate handcream, perfume or a candle, or any toiletaries or make up, I'd rather socks and a book voucher.

Geppili · 04/12/2022 19:37

Cashmere gloves or silk pillowcase.

FettleOfKish · 04/12/2022 19:39

I'm 30-something (just about still) and the in-laws usual present for me is cashmere socks from the white company. I love them but I wouldn't buy them myself because they're a bit too decadent. I've got a pair on now and they're so cosy.

Delphigirl · 04/12/2022 19:42

I think no to scented candles and diffusers. Go for lovely cookery book, nice plant in lovely planter, or 3 or 4 good novels with the receipt tucked into the first of them so she can swap them if she wants

MrsMoggy · 04/12/2022 19:44

I’m early thirties and I’d prefer a restaurant or experience voucher to anything suggested here. I wouldn’t use cashmere gloves and don’t know anybody in friendship group who would. Don’t like gin, candles or hand cream. I’m also a vegan so even more of a pain to buy for!

My in laws know me well so usually get me something Disney or cat themed 😁 but I don’t think you can go wrong with a voucher of some description but it would be better if you found out her interests.

I'd recommend too.
