I love choosing and giving presents, as does my DH (who is very good at it).

It's also lovely to receive something amazing, thoughtful or cool isn't it?

What's the best ever gift you've received ? Doesn't have to be lavish or expensive, just lovely and memorable.

Mine: I'd always coveted a particular type of blossom tree, and would ooh and ahhh at all the local ones each year they bloomed in spectacular style . For our first Christmas at our new home together DH bought me a tree for Christmas. I cried, instantly as it meant so much. It was planted over 20 years ago now (we have since moved). The new people havej kept it and love it as much as we did.

Smashing ❤️

Mr frosty. It was shite, but I was thrilled santa (parents) had listened. I make sure I always get my kids at least one of the shite things they ask for.

Also a skateboard, and a pair of slip on shoes (different years).

So it was you?
The ONLY mumsnetter ever to covet a Mr Frosty and actually receive one. 😮

I'm a massive reader and a writer by trade. When I met DP aged 18 I was a student (as was he) and already had mountains of books.

He was quite a bit better off than me and for Christmas, just one month after officially together, he bought me my first Kindle with hundreds of books on it.

I'm on my third now 10 years later and he insists on buying each and every Kindle I ever own.

@peridito my mum has a very similar one from the queen's coronation! I don't think the horses on hers have so much red on. I would guess that it is also her best present ever.

Last year my kids set up an art studio in my summer house, desks and shelves filled with art supplies, a heater, they put a light in there too.

I had lost myself for a while with one thing and another, but it's brought back my love for art again and I'm always in there doing something now.

It was the best and most thoughtful gift ever ever had.

A Bluebird A la carte play kitchen - when I was 11 🙈😆 I just really wanted one and my Mum kept saying I was too old for it (it was basically a little plastic play kitchen with play food) but I just desperately wanted it, I have autism and was always quite young for my age. When I came downstairs on Christmas morning and opened my presents from Santa he had got me one! 😉 I was so, so excited. I spent the whole day playing with it ❤️😆

A pair of rainbow braces that Mork wore in the tv show Mork and Mindy.

My sister is much older than me so when I was little she had a full time job, she bought me roller skates (white with a neon pink flash and neon pink wheels), a red Sony Walkman and a denim jacket, I was the coolest kid in the school that year 😂

As a child it was my Tiny Tears doll. I can still smell her - like baby powder and plastic!!!!

As an adult it is probably my Nomination bracelet from DH and now every year a new charm. The charms he gets are always something meaningful. He's a great present buyer generally - once he got me a car without me knowing. I opened the curtains on my Birthday and it was there with a massive bow on it!!

My opal necklace when I was 16.

It has only been taken off twice in the last 18 years, once to replace the chain from a thin one to a chunkier size, and the second was when my eldest DS decided it was a play thing (taken off to stop him from breaking it)

Glad to have a fellow enthusiast! Does you mum remember the funny cardboard periscopes that people in the crowd had to help them catch a glimpse of the real coach ?
I wish I still had my coach ( that was just a stock photo I found on line )and I have no memory at all of the horses .I do wonder if my coach was a different model ,maybe a matchbox toy of some kind ,and came without horses ?

@Kerantli I'd love to see a picture !

Anewuser · 23/12/2022 11:52

One year my husband gave me framed copies of black and white photos of my mum.

My mum died when I was 8 so I had no photos but he’d got them from a family member. So thoughtful.

NHSmummy84 · 23/12/2022 11:54

Dolly surprise. You lifted its arm up and it's hair grew.

gettingolderbutcooler · 23/12/2022 11:59

A helicopter trip!

tompuss · 23/12/2022 13:04

@peridito I have that Lesney coronation coach also! It was my granny's and I was allowed to take it out of her display case and play with it very gently. When she died I was asked if I would like a keepsake and I chose the coach. It's a bit battered now and one of the horses' legs is missing but it's my most treasured possession.

Mercurial123 · 23/12/2022 13:05

Almond Cow nut/oat/rice milk maker. It's so good.

@Kerantli I'd love to see a picture !

Was very hard not to find a picture that wasn't completely boob or chin(s) Xmas Blush

The ring it's with is also an Opal ring (it's mine and both my grandma's birth stone, so pretty special to me)

Second picture is the pendant upclose next to some opalite

That is wonderful and made me tear up

peridito · 23/12/2022 15:32

@Anewuser - what a lovely husband!

@tompuss - they are magical aren't they ? So glad that your grandmother let you play with hers.

@Kerantli - oh thank you for posting pics! My dad brought back a lump of opal ( I think ) after WW2 when he was in India and had a ring made for my 21st .
I think it's a white opal ,it's quite milky .Hard to catch the colours .

ilovesushi · 23/12/2022 15:35

@peridito @tompuss I think my mum's coach is more golden but I'm not certain. I am going to check it out on Christmas day. She has it on her mantlepiece. It is definitely not in pristine condition as I think it got played with a lot. I will find out if she remembers the periscopes too!
