Brown paper for wrapping?

AllotmentTime · 27/11/2022 10:09

Does anyone use brown parcel paper and decorate it with ink stamps and if so, can you recommend where to buy it from online?

There is so much “parcel paper” for sale but I’ve found it to be too shiny to take stamps before, the ink runs and rubs off. I have some lovely stamps and I’d like to take the eco option this year!

Anyone able to recommend/provide a link? TIA 🥰

Parcel paper but flip it over

Or paper chase "kraft" paper

SuperlativeOxymoron · 27/11/2022 10:11

Tesco have a 5m roll they sell in the post /parcel section in our local store. We buy it every year and let ds go to town on it colouring and drawing.
It's thick, but not very wide (about the width of wallpaper), so be prepared to wrap with 2 sheets side by side.

Thank you, I tried flipping parcel paper but still didn’t take ink well unfortunately. Paperchase is ££££ I find!!

I will keep Tesco in mind but there’s not one near me, thanks though.

Yeah I bought mine on offer but it was still pricey.

Oh, brown paper packages tied up with string.

That's one if my favourite things.

Todaynotalways · 27/11/2022 10:44

We get ours from the post office, though have bought it on Amazon in the past.

We also flip it, but have stopped doing stamps etc. instead we just use ribbon and twine (both reusable) to brighten it up.

Often we use a combination of parcel paper and a recyclable white/red striped paper, so give it some visual impact and look less like a pile of old boxes.

I always intend to tuck a bit of foliage under the ribbons, but our garden is sadly foliage free.

M&S have some but I haven't tried stamping on it. Was 3.50 for 5m I think

Ihavedogs · 27/11/2022 10:49

Try Hobbycraft.

Boooooot · 27/11/2022 10:49

I get mine from the range usually and just use ribbon

Gwdihooooo · 27/11/2022 10:51

What makes it eco?

BeforetheFlood · 27/11/2022 10:53

I'm pretty sure I saw plain brown Kraft paper rolls in Sainsburys...

AllotmentTime · 27/11/2022 11:08

Recyclable compared to all the foil/glitter enhanced stuff. And will look nicer with whatever scraps of fabric ribbon or twine I have to reuse, compared to printed paper.

In itself probably not that much difference from recycled & recyclable printed paper, I grant you.

😁
Tied up with a variety of things from sparkly string which needs using up, to lovely velvet ribbon off cuts, to bits of coloured wool, to anything else I can find!
…but that doesn’t really scan 🤣

I got some from sainsburys last year but sellotape doesn’t stick to it! 🙈 So I don’t recommend theirs!

ODFOx · 27/11/2022 11:18

Does it need to be brown? Newsprint paper is made for printing onto and is generally easier to handle that brown craft paper.

FlowerArranger · 27/11/2022 11:20

Wall paper lining paper works well.

Give it a thin impressionistic wash coat before you start stamping.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/11/2022 11:22

If it is too tricky to track down the paper, can I tell you what I use? I get the brown paper bags, similar to takeaway bags, often sold with catering/cooking stuff in cheap shops. Lets me do my decorating thing, and put some curly ribbon etc.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 27/11/2022 11:22

I buy massive rolls of it from Amazon every year. You can see from the reviews if it is the shiny stuff.
I then bought a load of of stamps from Cambridge Imprint a few years back and have a merry time decorating packages.
I also decorate my own crackers and menus as well so it all matches.

CorporateBull · 27/11/2022 11:22

Kraft from Amazon takes stamps and tape. We’ve used it for years.

Lemoncurd · 27/11/2022 11:28

We buy big rolls from Costco and use for everything. A roll lasts a few years. I don't bother decorating it but might use ribbons or coloured paper tape.

Reallybadidea · 27/11/2022 11:38

When we moved our movers provided a big pack of packing paper, basically the same stuff that they use in chip shops for wrapping. I think that would take ink well - you might need to double up with a plain inner layer because it's thinner than brown paper, but I think it would look good and be easier to wrap things with.

Reallybadidea · 27/11/2022 11:39

Also we've started using little jute drawstring bags for stocking fillers - completely reusable and you can get them with Christmas prints on Amazon. Saves me ages wrapping small things.

SnarkyBag · 27/11/2022 11:42

Rather than stamps I use stencils and a white gel pen. Seems to transfer onto any parcel paper. Time consuming but quite therapeutic sat in front of a Christmas film with some festive nibbles!
