For me it's always been an angel, it's what I was brought up with. My grandparents have had the same angel since they were married 60 years ago! My mum also had an angel.

Dp thinks it should be a star. I'm not against a star!

but what do you have?

it seems that people have all sorts of things now!

my angel tree topper is broken so need to get something else!

I was brought up with the explanation- from a gran- that the divide between angels and stars was based along Christian lines. The proper church going Christos had a angel and the rest of the population- from the vaguely Christian to your atheists, Jews who do Christmas, Hindus and everyone in between- do a star. No idea where this comes from and not sure I believe in it or ever did, but it always springs immediately to mind when I think about it.

An angel. Always

FancyANewID · 26/11/2022 23:16

We used to have a star. Then about 10 years ago I saw the most beautiful (and expensive) angel at a garden centre that really grabbed me.

We were fairly skint at the time and I think it was about 50 quid so I put it back - but DH bought it on the sly as I was so taken with it 😊 She's a bugger to get on straight though!

Not sure why an angel is more Christian than a star. In Matthew the wise men follow a star, in Luke the shepherds are called by an angel. I’m a Christian and we have a star but not for theological reasons- we bought it 30 years ago for our first Christmas together.

Two reasons to treasure it, lovely xx

A hot pink flamingo with a feather tail, bought a few years ago when JL had run out of stars and angels and we couldn't find the star we knew was at home somewhere.

CoodleMoodle · 26/11/2022 23:30

We've got Duggee dressed as an angel. He was cut out of the magazine when DD was a baby - she's now 8 and DS is 4 and we've had him up there every year. He's looking a bit tatty, despite keeping him in a special box, and every year I worry it might be his last! DC would be very upset if we didn't have Duggee. And so would I.

We used to have an angel, and we do have a lovely purple star... But, for now, Duggee stays.

GimmeBiscuits · 26/11/2022 23:33

I don't know yet . Maybe some feathers this year. I have some really lovely peacock feathers put away somewhere.
In the past I have had a star, a huge bow, and a partridge (a fake one, obviously- a real one would fidget too much).

A folk art fairy creature on one and a Pg tips Christmas monkey on the other

crackofdoom · 26/11/2022 23:45

Sharon. I made her myself, and painted her face a bit smudgily so it looks like her makeup has run, and she has bleached blonde hair (unravelled jute twine). Sharon has lived. I would add a photo, but she's still in a box in the loft.

dropthevipers · 26/11/2022 23:59

Fancied something different one year. Very different. A junkers ju 87 dive bomber (stuka). Gets coat.

JulesJules · 27/11/2022 00:02

A knitted (by me) Jimi Hendrix. For a few weeks he's in his tree, then he goes back to being out of his tree, on the shelf next to the TARDIS (not knitted)

Rainbowbaby13 · 27/11/2022 00:06

I have a star I think angels are more religious and I'm not at all

AcrossthePond55 · 27/11/2022 00:26

a blown glass finial. It's very similar to the one my parents had when I was a child.

spiderlight · 27/11/2022 00:26

A paper angel that our DS made in nursery when he was 2. The wings are his tiny handprints and I love it so much 💕. He's 15 now and has cringed at it for years but I can't imagine using anything else!

KnottyKnitting · 27/11/2022 00:31

A fairy! When I was a child I thought the fairy we had on top of the tree was magical. When I got married I tried to find a similar fairy but couldn't find one anywhere. So I bought a cheap small doll for 50p, made her a dress and wings and she has been on top of our tree for the past 33 years! She looks a bit beaten up and has had a few new sets of wings over the years but she still sits proudly on top of our tree.

An angel my 23 yr old son made at nursery!

An angel growing up. As a little girl I loved her.

Now a big glittery red star from Wilko's!

@TooBigForMyBoots According to Microsoft Bing's Dictionary....

dab·bing
[ˈdabɪŋ]
NOUN

the action or practice of inhaling small quantities of a concentrated and vaporized drug, typically cannabis oil or resin:

the action of performing a dance move or gesture, originating in hip hop and often done as part of a celebration, in which one arm is bent at an angle across the chest while the other is fully extended parallel to the first arm, with the face turned towards the bent elbow:

Which one is your angel doing?!

The second one. The second one. My 24 yo angel has never done drugs.

LauderSyme · 28/11/2022 18:22

@JulesJules For a few weeks he's in his tree, then he goes back to being out of his tree.

That's hilarious!

Judging by some of these I need to get more creative...

Openmouthinsertfood · 28/11/2022 20:44

I'd like to have an angel, but can't find one that doesn't look like princess Dianna. I just have a star.
