Theatre tickets for parents

Does anyone have any suggestions for a show I can take my parents to? In London.

They like most things (although nothing too highbrow) and we've gone to a lot of the bigger ones like Wicked/Book of Mormon/Hamilton.

Really struggling!

What about the Abba thing with the holograms?

Myleakycauldron · 23/11/2022 20:42

I subtly asked about ABBA a few weeks ago and my Dad was not v enthusiastic!

Harry Potter and the cursed child. It's theatrically magic.

hotelpink · 23/11/2022 20:49

Jersey Boys is incredible

Come from away but it finishes early January so maybe not suitable.

twinkletwinklechocolatebar · 23/11/2022 22:08

Moulin Rouge was amazing

40goingon30 · 23/11/2022 23:29

222 a ghost story is brilliant!

reluctantbrit · 24/11/2022 07:48

If they like comedy, The Play that Goes Wrong. I normally don't like this kind of play but I was crying with laughter.

The Mousetrap - the performance is really well done

FinallyFluid · 24/11/2022 07:50

To Kill a Mockingbird.

AnnPerkins · 24/11/2022 11:13

I'm taking my dad to see Noises Off which is on from January to March next year with Felicity Kendall, Tracey Ann Oberman and Matthew Kelly (who was very good in something we saw a couple of years ago). It's apparently really funny. (Please nobody tell me it's rubbish if you disagree, I've got the tickets already and we'll make our own minds up!)

WeirdPookah · 24/11/2022 11:21

How about The Mousetrap?

My husband took me to see that years ago when we lived in London as a surprise birthday present, it's an experience with history behind it as well as the play it's self.

StrawberryPot · 24/11/2022 11:23

Witness for the prosecution at County Hall -
fabulous venue

If you have time, Come From Away is amazing but ends in January. Next on my list is Life of Pi

Haven't seen that production, but saw Noises Off years back. Brilliant play.

emmathedilemma · 24/11/2022 11:27

my parents are still raving about the Lion King over 2 years down the line - they're not really into musical theatre but loved the costumes

erinaceus · 24/11/2022 11:29

Come From Away is really brilliant.

I have seen the trailers for Mrs Doubtfire and I think it looks good but it doesn't open until next spring.

BeingHappy · 24/11/2022 11:32

We recently watched Witness for the Prosecution. An Agatha Christie whodunnit set in a courtroom (and you sit in the courtroom itself as the audience!). Possibly the best play I've seen this year. Prices are very reasonable. Best seats are about £80 and good seats are still £45-ish.

Saw To Kill A Mockingbird too, and that was also very good.

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 11:35

If you haven't already seen Come From Away I would say that before it closes.

Otherwise Newsies at Troubadour Park

AnnPerkins · 24/11/2022 11:35

Good to know. Thanks TeenDivided! It's 40 years old now so it must be quite good to last so long.

I've also seen The Mousetrap, Witness for the Prosecution, 2:22 and To Kill a Mockingbird. All good especially TKAM with Rafe Spall, although he's been replaced by Matthew Modine now.

BlueChampagne · 24/11/2022 12:57

Cabaret? Friends tell me it's great.

Hummingbird11 · 24/11/2022 13:05

The Mousetrap for sure!

Chippy1234 · 24/11/2022 13:10

Les Miz? Cracking songs too. Or as others said Witness for the Prosecution was very good and the venue is unusual. Some of the audience made up the 'jury' from memory as well.

Hbh17 · 24/11/2022 13:12

Cabaret is completely amazing, as long as they are fairly broad-minded (it's not sanitised, like the film).
Guys & Dolls is opening at the Bridge Theatre in March, and I expect that to be excellent.
Good (starring David Tennant) has just been extended for a week in early January - great play & performances, but bleak subject matter.
And I agree with everyone else about Come From Away.

BlueChampagne · 24/11/2022 16:19

Or you could go for Theatre Vouchers.

BunnyBerries · 24/11/2022 16:31

How old are they.. are they energetic enough to walk around for immersive theatre for few hours and want more of an adventure?
If so.. Punchdrunk's 'The Burnt City'

America12 · 24/11/2022 16:34

Agree
Ghost story 222
To Kill a Mockingbird
Play that goes wrong
