Stocking fillers for 80yo lady in nursing home

Hi there,

I'd love some nice ideas for what I can pop in a stocking for an 80 year old but young at heart lady who will be in a nursing/residential care home on Christmas Day

Only restrictions are no alcohol or candles, and must be small enough to fit in an average shop bought stocking.

Thank you!

Consumables, so chocolate, sweets, biscuits. Is she a relative, would she appreciate a picture of you, or of a loved one?

TheSpottedZebra · 23/11/2022 15:38

And hand cream.

otherusername · 23/11/2022 15:40

Hand cream, a reed diffuser, fuzzy socks, a small box of posh chocolates, nail polish

BigFatLiar · 23/11/2022 15:41

Hand cream, moisturiser, chocolate, hankies. Favourite sweeties

teraculum29 · 23/11/2022 15:46

If you put any fluffy socks or hankies please name them as they will disapear afer 1st use.

Nice smelly soaps or hand creams or lotions, chocolates sweets or biscuits

Beebumble2 · 23/11/2022 15:47

Posh shower gel or hand soap, beautiful small note book with glitzy pen, soft neck warmer ( useful if waking up on cold night).
If she like looking glam, maybe some earrings or necklace ( my 81 year old ant would like these)

avocadoandchill · 23/11/2022 15:47

Things they can eat.
Some warm socks?
A penny whistle

Beebumble2 · 23/11/2022 15:47

Aunt not ant!

TellMeWhere · 23/11/2022 15:48

Scarf, book, puzzle/game of some sort, notebook, pen, lip balm, perfume, nice tea/coffee...

Most of the people I have known in cars homes did not really have much use for presents as such but could get very competitive about how many Christmas (and, in season, birthday ) cards they received.

Easy win, especially if you write a few from your own relatives so you bring them a whole stack and incase they don't already have any, some ribbon etc to hang them up out of the way.

First came across this with MiL, told my mother and sister who were both happy to send one themselves. Did individual ones from her grandchildren and upped her score dramatically.

Gave us something to talk about to as she loved to go through them telling (or asking) who they were from.

care, not cars sigh

avocadoandchill · 23/11/2022 16:07

My nan used to like a sugar mouse

Perfume.
Posh soap and hand cream.
Pocket sized pack of tissues. They usually do ones with a Christmas design in Boots.
Magazine.
Writing paper/notelets and a pen.
Retro sweets, such as barley sugar, cola cubes etc. My garden centre do loads of these in nice jars.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/11/2022 17:44

As suggested by loads of PPs, hand cream. Also lip balm or lipstick. New pyjamas or night dress. Slippers with a decent sole.

Many years ago I remember a man in hospital next to my grandfather was absolutely delighted with a Walkman he got for Christmas. He was given music and audio cassettes with it. Every time I saw him he had his head phones on listening to things. There might be some digital equivalent - a subscription to Audible / Apple Music etc and some good headphones if she already has a phone?

DelphiniumBlue · 23/11/2022 18:33

Burts Bees tinted lip balm. Wrist warmers. Nice shower stuff.

reluctantbrit · 23/11/2022 18:46

Handcream
Shower gel
Body butter
Gloves
Scarves, my mum loves the silk/satin/thin cashmere style ones as they keep warm without the weight or bulkyness.
Chocolates or other favourite sweets
Crossword puzzle book and pen
Book

Montague22 · 23/11/2022 18:52

A tiny roller ball perfume, easier than a spray

Chocolate brazils (if allowed nuts)

Maybe an old fashioned kaleidoscope

Pack of cards with a nice pattern

Hopemax · 23/11/2022 19:30

If games and card games are played…dobble came to mind. Easy to play and definitely suitable for those young at heart 💜

GAW19 · 23/11/2022 19:35

Nail varnish and nail file?
Small hair brush/comb
Lip balm
Soap
Fluffy socks
Smile

chickidychick · 23/11/2022 19:36

Lavender bag

sueelleker · 23/11/2022 19:36

Look for holiday sized toiletries-you could get a lot of different things in a stocking.

Cheerfulcharlie · 23/11/2022 19:37

Teas - interesting blends. Bird & Blend or Hoogly tea have some lovely ones

Newlifestartingatlast · 23/11/2022 19:37

Bloody hell…no alcohol…they’re gown up not under 18. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I want neat gin if I have to live in nursing home 😳

ChocChipOwl · 23/11/2022 20:06

I'd be putting in mini bottles of spirits but that's me

Other suggestions ..

My Year by Roald Dahl. A must read and perfect for an older lady. Set in chapters of the year so good for someone to read to her on a visit, chapter by chapter

Pillow mist spray

A Rubik's cube

Cashmere wrist warmers
