Sounds odd, but he's been banging on about a new hoover for over a year! He been eying up Sharks, even today in Costco and Asda he made a bee-line for them.

My dad said it was wrong to buy domestic appliances for your spouse! 🤣

What domestic appliances have people bought for their other half at Xmas and got away with and the gift had been well received?

P.S My husband is always hoovering and hates the pink Hetty so thought about time he had one he likes 😁

If he wants it then it's fine 🤷‍♀️ Last year he got some kitchen knives from his mum and a coffee machine from his grandma, both of which he asked for. Among other things I got him some star wars wooden spoons/cooking utensils and a Cafetiere.

Etinoxaurus · 19/11/2022 18:34

DH got me a KitchenAid- he knew it was a safe present though as I’d been wanging on about them for years 😂

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 19/11/2022 18:36

I was bought a generator one year - you would have to pry that out of my cold, dead hands.

hattie43 · 19/11/2022 18:38

I'd only buy an appliance if you absolutely know someone wants it . A ' surprise 'appliance is never a good idea imo

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/11/2022 18:40

I've just ordered my husband a been to cup coffee machine which I think he will love

Usually I agree about not buying appliances but I know he wants a coffee machine

Theyorkshirelass · 19/11/2022 18:40

I once bought my adult dd a deep fat fryer and a sack of spuds to go with it

she was overjoyed-I’d always refused one and it’s all she wanted

was a bugger to wrap though-I didn’t bother wrapping the potatoes

I agree with this! DH got me, at my request, a Smeg toaster a couple of years ago. I really wanted it and was pleased with it. But if I hadn't wanted a posh new toaster then I wouldn't have been thrilled to receive one...!

Roselilly36 · 19/11/2022 18:51

If it’s what he wants that fine, I was over the moon when DH bought me a dyson hoover among other things for Xmas OMG that was about 25 yrs ago!

NameChangeForARaisin · 19/11/2022 18:53

Git my DH a bread maker once, he loved it then and still loves it now, some 8 years later!

Hbh17 · 19/11/2022 18:53

Domestic appliances as gifts definitely banned in our house - I'd rather have no gift at all, tbh, and a vacuum cleaner would be grounds for divorce.

PortiasBiscuit · 19/11/2022 18:53

I was 12 when my Father bought my Mother a new iron for Christmas. The fall-out had scarred me for life!

ConnieTucker · 19/11/2022 18:53

I got a dyson for my birthday last year. My dh loves it.

Scoundrella · 19/11/2022 18:55

Not my DH but I love appliances and kitchen things for Xmas.

got a lovely set of knives last year, beautiful always pan from our place and a stand mixer in previous years

elliesmummy19 · 19/11/2022 18:56

My husband would f*ing love a vacuum cleaner for Christmas! I think he asked me for a new one last year actually. Appliances are fine if that’s what the person really wants!

VisitingThem · 19/11/2022 18:58

I got a breadmaker one year which I really wanted and have used loads.

mam0918 · 19/11/2022 18:58

I bought my DH one years ago, he loved it when opening it but honestly its more like a novelty toy than a useful household applience... we still use the proper big dyson for most things (but we do have 3 messy kids and 2 shedding pets).

My DH bought me an airfryer with the attachment that he would cook for me once a week (which he has mostly kept up too).

MKCH · 19/11/2022 18:58

We tend to exclusively get domestic appliances as presents for both birthday and Christmas!

This year I have already got my DP a vax carpet cleaner. It's already been used.
For his birthday in January he's getting a chest freezer, an electric toothbrush and a new ironing board.

I got a slow cooker for my birthday in October; last christmas I got a cordless vacuum and also a breadmaker. Year before I got a filter coffee machine thingy.

I love it!!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2022 18:59

I think it's ok in this case. You've already got a hoover, so it's not just buying an appliance for the house and calling it a present.

Falmerjeans · 19/11/2022 19:00

I just got DH a kitchen aid kettle for his birthday. He's delighted 😂

PuttingDownRoots · 19/11/2022 19:00

DH has got me a coffee machine.

He has been throughly warned that if he tries to be funny and wrap up the new clothes rack we need the iron he got a few years ago to be "funny" will be thrown at him.

guessmyusername · 19/11/2022 19:01

I once bought dh a vacuum cleaner too, a miele though. He was happy with it as we really needed a new one. He doesn't use it much now though.
I hope you have better luck with your shark than us. I recently bought one for dd who is moving to her own place soon. They sent the wrong one. While it was the same basic one, we paid for a bundle with extra accessories and none of these arrived with no explanation. When I contacted them it was a nightmare but eventually they agreed to send the bits. Two have arrived but the third is still missing. Apparently it was out of stock and due in last Monday. When it didn't arrive I contacted them again and was told it would be another 2-3 weeks and I should get back in touch then! Why should I get in touch with them, they should be getting in touch with me. Sorry to rant, I just hope you get the right one.

girlmom21 · 19/11/2022 19:01

I spent £450 on a set of kitchen knives for DP about 5 years ago. Worth every penny. They're used every day.

ButterflyLeg · 19/11/2022 19:01

Dad bought me mum a dishwasher after my birth, a thoughtful kind and helpful gift imo.... But mum, 37 years later, still cannot get over it!

Depends on your hubby how he'll react to it I suppose!

Oh I bought my DH a coffee machine forever ago too... I dont tend to think of a coffee machine as equal to and iron or hoover or washing machine though, I think its more like and adult version of a popcorn machine, mr. frosty or cupcake maker etc... which feel more 'extra' and gift-y.

Yes It's mostly definitely never a good idea unless they begged for it.

It's great he loves hoovering. My DH is really good on the whole but must think something bad will happen if he touches the hoover. He will do ANYTHING else to help but the hoover, no.
