Advent calendar fillers for a baby

What can I put into an advent calendar for a 6 month old? The boxes are tiny at 3x3x4cm. I brought some socks and hair clips but they are too big and won't fit. So far I have just Christmas themed finger puppets..

Sorry but l just wouldn't bother.
Baby won't know.

Smogtopia · 18/11/2022 21:36

Also I wouldn't bother

Greenshake · 18/11/2022 21:37

Save your money for something your baby needs!

Littleguggi · 18/11/2022 21:38

Feels odd giving an empty advent calendar. Like my mum always says if you're giving someone a purse/ bag, always put some money in there even if just £1

raisins?

PuttingDownRoots · 18/11/2022 21:38

Piece of fruit.

carefulcalculator · 18/11/2022 21:38

Nothing, save the money. You could put in a slip with the name of a carol and sing it, babies love singing.

Littleguggi · 18/11/2022 21:38

Should have said, not for my baby but someone else's, first Christmas so wanted to make it special

Coffee or chocolate for Mum.

angelofdeath21 · 18/11/2022 21:39

cash?

Littleguggi · 18/11/2022 21:39

@carefulcalculator I actually love that idea! Thank you! Still 20 odd drawers to fill..

I'd just give the calendar they will treasure it and get lots of use it in the future, I still have a one I had as a child. No point wasting your money filling it for a 6 month old.

Clymene · 18/11/2022 21:40

Why would you buy a perpetual advent calendar for someone else's baby?

ShouldntHaveBeenSoHasty · 18/11/2022 21:41

Little thoughtful notes? If they’re tiny boxes there’s not a lot you can put in that a baby can have

Beees · 18/11/2022 21:41

If the calendar is a gift don't you think the parents might want to fill it for their child?

Seem odd and sort of stepping on toes to do it for them.

I agree - a high pressure gift!

Lcb123 · 18/11/2022 21:43

Even as a gift, fine to give it empty. As clearly it’s to be used in future years

Littleguggi · 18/11/2022 21:43

Gosh some really judgement posts here, I don't need to explain myself but its a gift for a special little girl. It's definitely more of a keepsake gift that her parents can use for years to come. I'm only here for the suggestions not the judgy posts..

Put chocolate coins in each. Tell baby to share with mum this year.

Not judgemental just not to your liking.

The gift is the calendar you don't need to add stuff to it just like you can buy a purse and not put money in it. The baby won't care and the parents will either want to do the filling themselves or are unlikely to actually use it as a calendar and more of a decorative item.

Just give them the calendar as is.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/11/2022 21:52

Another vote to give the calendar as is

I love the idea of the Christmas carols slip of paper. However, for a 6 month old that isn’t yours I’d baulk a bit at opening it every day for my child and having to sing a tuneless version of some random carol that no one has heard of because it’s day 21 and all the good ones are long gone.

i agree it’s up to the parents to put gifts in themselves but maybe do 4-5 gifts in a little bag and tell them it’s to start them off. Doesn’t really matter if they’re too big, they can always use tokens instead. Melty sticks, raisins, hair clips, socks, bubble bath would all work.

Could you put little snacks in there/books/little toys/dolls/socks/babysitting vouchers. It's hard to think what young ones are into.

I would think it was lovely if someone got me one for my little one by the way. ☺️☺️

snowspider · 18/11/2022 21:54

Special hand written message/letter/poem, photo, tiny doll/animal, lucky charm in drawer 24 otherwise empty

Smogtopia · 18/11/2022 21:55

Ok if it's a gift then how about -
(Depending how big the drawers are)
Socks
Hair clips
Dummy?!
Wooden animal toys
Dummy clips?
A coin with the Queen on it from this year? (Do they exist?)

Can't think of anything else small enough specific for a 6 month old

Other lovely keepsake things to get are -
Beautifully illustrated night before Christmas book
Keepsake Christmas ornaments that they'll one day hang in their own tree
Hardback books with a handwritten message inside - not necessarily a baby's book but a book you read during childhood and loved
A real photo album with their pictures printed off as busy parents often only have them saved on their phone

So maybe the advent calendar with a chocolate coin in each drawer to share with parents this year and another keepsake gift from the list above

bravelittletiger · 18/11/2022 21:56

If you really need to fill it then I would buy a massive pack of something and split it up, like:

  • a set of building blocks and put one block in each date
  • a multipack of socks and a multipack of babygros with one in each
  • a crayon in each
  • a massive pack of bath toys and put one in each
  • multipack of spoons,
Knives, bibs

You get the picture.
