Is this what 10 year old are into these days? We've been given a list and it's just got a load of skin care on it. I feel a bit weird buying serum for a 10 year old but maybe I'm out of touch. Any ideas of good brands for preteens? It's for my neice. I'm tempted to just ignore it and get something else.

And when I was that age we used to play beauty salons and give each other facials.

That's when we were not playing he-man or Star Wars. 😉

My dd is 11 and loves Florence by mills. I have bought her some for Christmas.

I thought the same but I have to admit many teenage girls have beautiful skin and far fewer blemishes than they did in my day when we were told to just use soap and water.

These days, girls with bad acne can get various prescriptions from the doctor to clear it up.

I'd much prefer my daughter to be into skincare than makeup. A jade roller is just a nice massager for face. Can't see the harm in that. Though I wouldn't buy £25 shampoo! Nothing crazy expensive.

BTW those saying boys don't do this, I don't think that's always true. My brother is a lot younger than me and through his teens he always took care of his skin and so did his friends. He has a little routine he still does and he shares products with his gf. So I think times are changing

Prescriptions like tetracycline? these things have always been available and yeah tried it and it did fuck all.

Im cystic (PCOS, Cystic kidneys, had cystosarcoma and many subdermal cysts), what helps the acne side is scrubs, moisturisers and oils.

All medications do is add to my antibiotic resistance now (and they never worked anyway).

My baby brother is and always has been way into luxuary bath stuff and fancy artisan soaps than I ever have been.

He swears by LUSH etc... and yet is the most manly man ever (he says its the only thing that handles industrial greese though).

My DH while not into fancy stuff is in general more into upkeep than me too (Im avoid shaving like the plague because it just brings more issues especially when your cystic and yet he manscapes etc...).

So I dont buy that ALL men aren't into this stuff, many men I know can be far more fussy than the girls I know about their routines.

well not in 11AD maybe but in the lifetime of I would say the majority of mumsnetter yeah they have.

Antibiotics for acne are hardly a 'new' invention. Tetracycline (the go to for acne prescriptions) was discovered in 1948 and put into successful use in the early 50s ffs.

Thanks for this thread OP. My 11 year old asked for 'skincare' and I would have gone down the (effective but) dull route of Simple. Never heard of the F by Mills range but now it makes sense and is on my list to buy 😄

My 10 year old wouldn't have the foggiest. Where's she getting this stuff from? The internet?
