DD 11 has asked for a beauty fridge for her bedroom to keep all her lotions and potions on since January!!

I have said no all the way throughout the year but am starting to soften as we get closer to Christmas.

I had a couple of concerns, she had said she wanted to put a couple of snacks in there and I wasn’t sure (as she is a bit of a snacker) I wanted to encourage food in her bedroom but mainly I wasn’t sure how safe they were, to have running throughout the night…

Has anyone bought one for DC and has any advice or any reviews of which to go for.

Definitely not. 11 is far to young for you to be encouraging her to be into beauty products to the extent she would need her own fridge for them. Also you've said there's a risk of unsupervised unhealthy snacking. Also it's an unnecessary electrical appliance in a child's room.

She needs to think of something else to ask for for Christmas.

How many lotions and potions does an 11 year old need that would require their own fridge??
Madness!

This

No because

1/ an 11 year old doesn't need a beauty fridge

2/ those type of things are always a bit dodgy safety wise IME

3/ cost of living and climate - do you want another superfluous item chugging electricity?

4/ it'll end up full of snacks hidden behind a bottle of moisturiser

milkysmum · 13/11/2022 19:19

Probably missing the point of the thread, but what beauty lotions need to be kept in a fridge??

crumbsneverdid · 13/11/2022 19:20

My daughter (10) would love one. She likes face masks and painting her nails. I think it's a nice idea. Cringing at the judgement from others.

Sometimeswinning · 13/11/2022 19:20

I'm with you @sendwineandastraw my dd has asked for one. She loves her skincare routine. As long as you have it on a hard surface you'll be fine. My dd started at 11 with her pretty impressive collection.

It is a gimmick though. But I've accepted that! It's the one thing she wants.

Not a lot! But I know I have a couple of items my dd keeps in my fridge for her routine. So it'll be nice to see them gone!

How the have we got to this point as a species and not actually disappeared up our own backsides? Beauty fridges?? Whatever the heck they are a 11 year old shouldn't need one!

HarrietSchulenberg · 13/11/2022 19:23

My 22yo DS wants a food fridge for his bedroom. I've refused on the grounds of a) cost of extra electricity, b) risk of the bloody thing catching fire, and c) food upstairs in bedrooms is not on.

I'd consider a beauty fridge for an 11yo a big no on all of the above grounds plus what the hell does a child put on her face that needs to be refrigerated?

milkysmum · 13/11/2022 19:24

Just had a Google, they are only tiny little things, not exactly going to get stocked full of snacks. Probably just a cute gimmick. My 13 year old would likely love one on her dressing table.

Omg what 11 year old needs a beauty fridge?
i don’t even know any adults that have one. And what snacks does she like that need a fridge. Just no

Yep. It's insane that such a thing even exists, let alone an 11 year old wanting one.

EspeciallyD · 13/11/2022 19:31

DS (student) has one for snacks and drinks in his room, it is very noisy.

SirenSays · 13/11/2022 19:33

Cold moisturiser and face masks feel amazing, especially in summer but I'd worry about fire risk and cost and noise of running it

sendwineandastraw · 13/11/2022 19:33

Woah…

wasn't expecting this response!

DD is my 3rd daughter and yes absolutely loves skin care, not makeup, hair dyes and fake nails but getting fluffy headband on, cleansing, moisturising, conditioning her hair she also loves organising “all” her products on her shelf…

She is actually a farm/outdoor kid who spends most of her time with her pony, drinking out the hose and covered in hay so we definitely have a balance…

It hasn’t even came from me as I have a very basic skin routine.

Aside from all of the above I didn’t actually ask for an attack on my parenting or my choices regarding my child but thank you for them anyway.

My dd is definitely not alone with wanting one! Same as you, I have a very basic routine but she is dedicated to hers. I'd literally ignore the judgy comments. They don't know your child. Get that fridge. Just keep an eye for leaks (which are rare but can happen with any fridge)

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 13/11/2022 19:41

Well, let’s face it most kids don’t need what they’ve asked for at Christmas time but we often do our best to get what they’d like. You know your daughter. They aren’t big fridges, assuming it’s those little ones that are all over tik tok and the like.

Surely your 22 year old can his own decisions about what goes in his room? He's an adult.

pumpkintree · 13/11/2022 19:44

My teen has one. Had it few year. No food upstairs but she keep face masks and body lotions in it along with a jade roller.

HarrietSchulenberg · 13/11/2022 19:52

Caaarrrl - it's my house. If I cave in to a fridge it'll be a cooker next! If he wants a bedsit he can go and rent one.

OverTheRubicon · 13/11/2022 19:57

Environmentally terrible to produce and wasteful to run, fire risk and adding energy cost at a bad time for it. Plus, while I think it's absolutely fine for an 11 year old to look after her skin - wish I'd worn a moisturiser with sunscreen daily from that age! - having enough for a fridge is actively encouraging a pretty obsessive approach to beauty, more than just letting her spend pocket money how she wants and buying her some face masks.

Can you compromise with some kind of fancy tupperware box for her to keep things safely in the fridge, and something else for her collection?

Prescottdanni123 · 13/11/2022 20:03

I've had a look and they all look a bit cheap and nasty. I'd worry about the safety of them.

A nice beauty caddy might be nice instead. Or caboodles seem to be making a comeback.

Agree

Floydthebarber · 13/11/2022 20:07

I think the sound of a fridge running in her room might be very annoying at night.
