Cheap Stocking Filler Ideas!

BabyofMine · 12/11/2022 08:47

I found I spent almost as much on small stocking presents as I did on main presents for my little one last year and I just can’t afford it this year!

When I was young we got basically the same thing in our stocking every year. I remember we always got a pencil set, and chocolate coins, but I’m drawing a blank on what else!

I thought about a fun toothbrush but didn’t know if that’s a bit mean 😂

Any ideas to bulk it out?!

Their own bottle of coke/fanta, definitely items they need anyway like fancy toothbrushes / paste. Also any novelty christmas toys/tat eg wind up toys i gather up from from their rooms in January and they re-appear in the stockings again each year. They love this.

Tubes of Pringles here! Along with other bits and pieces.

Genius! My son loves Pringles. Just added to my list x

MissPoldark · 12/11/2022 10:00

I would resist the urge to buy a load of tat that’s just going to end up in the bin at some point and get things that are needed or useful.

Shutupyoutart · 12/11/2022 10:06

Usually do one present they have asked for and the rest is small useful or fun things, bubble mix, tubes of sweets, socks, pj's, coloring books and pencils, playdoh, toy cars or make up, hot, fluffy hot water bottles, mugs with hot choc, hair stuff, bath bombs or bubble bath.

Popping candy (you can get multipacks in Poundland for £1)

Stickers or temp tattooes

Satsuma!

Lego minifigure/ character pack (can get loads of mini kits on Ebay)

Dinky car from charity shop or Hot Wheels

Colour bath bomb

Christmas socks

Fun magnet for fridge/ radiator

Used to get character/ personalised face flannels but you don't see them so much now.

Little puzzle ... although I think we have them all now!

Mini kaleidoscope

Jelly beans

Books from charity shop

These are all things we've done recently but now they have lots of them so I'm struggling somewhat! I pad out the chocolate and sweets with packs of eg yoghurt raisins. Agree that the trick is not to have massive stockings!

FoodSchmood · 12/11/2022 10:21

I found this little snowflake stained glass colouring book in a local art shop that will make a great stocking filler I think.

ChristmasCwtch · 12/11/2022 10:36

I’ve added Batman battery operated toothbrushes to mine this year (£3.99 from Home Bargains). They’ll absolutely love them!!

Choc orange also a good shout for £1.

I love a wander around The Entertainer to find bigger bits for stockings.

WhenIgrowup42 · 12/11/2022 13:12

I would also advise against tat that's never going to get used and go more with fun, but useful things (but interspersed with a few smaller presents that fit!).

Some of the things I'm putting in DC 4 and 6 this year:

Bath bomb
Cutlery
Water bottle
Flower press
Insect viewer pot
Schleich animal
Triple bunk bed for sylvanian families
Smiggle pens (when they were £1 each!)
Smiggle keychain (also on offer!)
Top trumps
Magic trick

Chocolate.
Chocolate.
then more chocolate.

This!

Also Poundland have lots of Elf on a shelf themed bits, big chocolate coins, bags of chocolates, marshmallows, lollipops

mam0918 · 12/11/2022 17:29

I always includes chocolate coins, chocolate orange, biscuits, stickers, a few sweets they like and then just a selection of like 5 things under £1 per item.

Comedycook · 12/11/2022 17:30

I always fill stockings with stuff they'll use and need anyway, just more fun versions. So socks, pants, toothbrush, shower gel, deodorant for older kids/teens, lipbalm, flannel, stationery, hairbands.

Other cheap ideas
Stickers
Fake tattoos
Big tub of popcorn

Amoreena · 12/11/2022 17:32

Primark socks, bath bombs, mug and hot chocolate, pjs. Poundland biscuits and chocolate

cheapskatemum · 12/11/2022 18:04

Colouring book, crayons, those little wind up toys, stickers, cards (Top Trumps are very cheap in charity shops) Fake tattoos, Hawkins Bazaar used to be great for stocking fillers.

glasshole · 12/11/2022 18:20

Cheapest and easiest things to bulk stockings out are the mini Kellogg assorted cereal 8 pack, pop tarts, Pringles and Jaffa cakes or bn bn type biscuits or a whioe pack of mini max rectangle cakes. Other than this I include socks, hair brush, pens, bubbles, pez dispenser and refills, bubble bath, a small Lego kit, novelty stationery, selection box etc

JM88Jen · 12/11/2022 18:49

I tend to put in....

Satsuma
Bag choc coins
Tube of sweets
Small tub pringles
Toothbrush
Bath bomb/character bubble bath
Pack of socks
Then a new book and maybe a small toy
(Just something to keep them in rooms a little longer as me and other half usually zombie like on the 4am wake up 😄😄😄 )

MsJuniper · 12/11/2022 18:59

How old are they?

I just bought some bits from Tesco which were on Clubcard price. Bath bombs, lip salve, Frozen nail polish.

Amoreena · 12/11/2022 18:59

Tesco have got a few stocking fillers ranging from £2-4
Eg. Glow in the dark stickers, puzzles, whoopee cushion

JustFrustrated · 12/11/2022 09:47

Ohhh a box of cereal that they wouldn't normally have.

It's big, and takes up space but inexpensive.

How big is your stocking to get a cereal box in !

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/11/2022 19:24

Big.

Too big.

But not huge?

BabyofMine · 12/11/2022 19:53

Omg just checked back and didn’t think a message in the Christmas topic would get so many amazing replies! I’m going to have to sit down and make a list because there’s so many amazing suggestions.
She’s 5 years old by the way, I never thought to say.

Honestly so many great and affordable ideas I would never have thought of, I’m so excited about putting her stocking together now and I was frankly a bit sick at the thought as we’ve got so little cash to play with at the moment. So THANK YOU you’ve made my day ❤️

You can also print Christmas activity sheets etc. from internet for free - my DS loves these (maybe not a stocking filler but a free activity to fill the time in the run up - assuming you have a printer at work!)

MrsPerfect12 · 14/11/2022 00:06

Whoopie cushion is always put in and those trees that grow overnight.
Magic Xmas tree

momonpurpose · 14/11/2022 00:36

I always put a par of socks some chocolate and maybe a surprise bag type thing.

fleurdelee · 14/11/2022 00:52
