Doing my own stocking this year

Peach2021 · 08/11/2022 10:37

Father Christmas fills the stockings in our house, and I'm newly divorced so will need to do my own this year or DC will notice that I haven't got one.

Inspired by another poster thinking of presents to ask her mum and dad for, what small and relatively inexpensive, but treaty, things would you put in your own stocking?

TIA.

Nail varnish, a miniature bottle of alcohol (if you drink), chocolate, earrings, sleeping mask, lip balm, 'nice' versions of anything you need, snacks that you like but don't usually buy. Those are a few things I can remember putting in my stocking last year.

Glitterbiscuits · 08/11/2022 10:53

Magazines!
They are really over priced but make a good treat.

YorkieTheRabbit · 08/11/2022 12:43

Cocktail in a tin
sheet face masks if it’s not something you normally use
better chocolate than you might usually buy
nail varnish
there are some beauty boxes on Next for around £20 but have several items which are pretty good value

NegroniLover · 08/11/2022 13:29

I often make one for my dm if they're staying with us and I would put:
Mini champagne
Nice drinking glass or mug
hand cream
fancy socks
small box of fav chocolates
nail polish or lipstick
scratch card !
places like L'Occitane often have mini sized goodies at this time of year and are great for stockings
pretty / interesting christmas tree decoration

PuttingDownRoots · 08/11/2022 14:22

I saw a nice travel cup when I was shopping... so I bought it and gave ro DH for my stocking. (Nothing fancy, it had polar bears on which are my favourite animal)

I've got some nice coffee as well since DH doesn't know about coffee

Other ideas
Fudge
Hand cream
Diary
Cocktail or mini wine

mamatoTails · 08/11/2022 15:15

Ohhh I'd get myself:

New fluffy/soft socks
New pair of pyjamas - can roll up small.
Some sour sweets
Few new make up bits

Easily pleased!

woohoowoohoo · 08/11/2022 15:57

I always do my own , also single parent! I have chocolate, peanuts, nice stationary, nice toiletries , love it ! I also get my own presents 😁

DeborahVance · 08/11/2022 16:24

I am very tempted to do this (also single parent). If I buy and wrap things now there's no chance I'll remember what is in there on December 25th with my peri-menopausal brain

SweetChild0mine · 08/11/2022 16:33

How old is your daughter ?

I ask because if she understands you could have like a theme... me and my partner done it last year (seen it on fb or TT) and it was like

  1. Something you can eat
  2. Something you can drink
  3. Something that reminds me of you
  4. Something you wanted
Etc etc.

we numbered them and opened them at the same time and had a couple of drinks. Was good fun but may be a bit corny lol

Frieya · 08/11/2022 16:34

Can I ask when you say stocking does it mean small things wrapped up and placed in an actual Christmas stocking or are they just small gifts 5hat don’t cost too much?

TellingBone · 08/11/2022 16:40

I did this a couple of times but it was shit.😅

So now I trawl places like Superdrug in the last few days before Christmas and buy myself a discounted beauty/chocolate/whatever advent calendar. And open all the windows on Christmas Day.

Slightly less shit.😄

CoffeeChocolateWine · 08/11/2022 16:41

I'd love to do my own stocking!
Miniature Baileys
Jo Malone perfume
Photo frame
Nice pen
Diary
Gift card for favourite clothes shop
Coffee beans
Dark chocolate coated brazils
Book
Knitting wools
Leather gloves
Earrings
Traditional nutcracker doll

gogohmm · 08/11/2022 16:43

I'm going to make one for me - fluffy socks, hair bands, curly hair stuff (expensive) hand made chocolate from the place in the next town ... means I get what I want!

littlegreenheart · 08/11/2022 17:01

gloves or mittens
a silky scarf
underpants
wallet or change purse
sunglasses, sunglass case
mobile accessories - strap, stand, portable battery/charger
hair accessories - clips, barrettes, ties, etc.
hair brush, comb, detangler
jewellery
coloured pencils, markers, watercolours
fancy teabags
incense, essential oils, papier d'Armenie
clip-on reading light
electric toothbrush
key chain
"nice" hot sauce, jam, chutney, condiments
seed packets (if you have a garden or window boxes)
Christmassy cookie cutters (if you bake)

changer121 · 08/11/2022 17:10

I would go small but decadent if I was doing my own -

Tiny jar of truffle paste to have on pasta with butter

Rose and violet creams

Lovely small soap

Quarter bottle of champagne / miniature alcohol of preference

L'occitaine almond oil

changer121 · 08/11/2022 17:11

Basically no tat and things that get used and thoroughly enjoyed and are a great treat on the day !

This is actually genius. Going to get mine sorted this week 😂

ThreeRingCircus · 08/11/2022 17:50

I like doing my own! If I see anything small that I'd like as a treat I buy it throughout the year, wrap it and end up completely forgetting what I've bought so I have a stocking full of lovely surprises on Christmas Day 🤣. Ideas could be:

Nice bar of soap
Bubble bath
Bamboo socks
Wireless earbuds
Book
Scratchcard (just check any time restrictions on claiming prizes so maybe one bought closer to Christmas)
A pretty mug
A nicer bottle of wine than I'd usually buy
Chocolates
Shopping trolley token that clips onto my keys so I don't have to scrabble in my handbag for £1
Hand cream
Candle
Microfiber hair towel turban
Pair of slippers

Then I can light a candle and have a long bubble bath on Christmas Day and curl up with my new socks/slippers, a book, a drink and some chocolates. Perfect.

54isanopendoor · 08/11/2022 17:52

I'm doing the same.
I am having a small trinket box (local ebayer, £10) for my dresser.
A small bottle of liquer. Some chocolate coffee beans. Nuts, Candied fruit.
A book (or 2...) New soft socks. Bath oil. Sleep mask.

ChristmasCwtch · 08/11/2022 20:28

I want to do one for me too 😂

  • pack of cinnamon vanilla tea lights from JL
  • multipack of Christmas socks
  • YSL false lash mascara
  • choc covered orangettes
  • book
  • Fresh mint sugar rush lip balm
  • nice shower gel
  • silk scrunchies
  • Lush bath bomb x 2
Mindystryder · 08/11/2022 20:34

If you want inexpensive, I'd go to all the beauty counters in JL and boots and ask for some free samples of stuff. Also boots do the £10 Tuesday offers so you might be able to pick up something nice for cheaper. I'd shop smart with presents too - if you can order from somewhere that gives free gifts if you spend over a certain amount then you can put the free gift in your stocking! And black Friday deals will be coming up so it's worth keeping an eye on that (I know they aren't always really worth it but you never know). Other than that, edible stuff - nice chocolates and maybe a cocktail tin or two as someone suggested above.

pinkksugarmouse · 09/11/2022 01:51

If I was considering one for me;

Scented candle
Paperback book
Vego bar (chocolate)
Crimbles chocolate macaroon biscuits
Bed socks
