What would you get a 9 month old baby

My daughter will be 9 months at Christmas. What did you buy your babies for Christmas?
I am aware she will have no idea but I feel like I need to get her something. Did you bother for your child’s first Christmas?

A light ball was a big hit with my girls at that age.

Crocodile creek do some pretty and small onesor djeco do a larger inflatable one. You can also get small ones with characters on from places like the range. Surprising hit.

For a bigger gift one of those plastic rocker / seesaw type toys that can be used both indoors or outdoors. I think they are little tykes?

AdaColeman · 08/11/2022 10:08

I agree about not getting clothes with the child's name on.

Get some simple toys, rag book, xylophone, a soft ball, bath toys etc, but wrap them up in creative ways that the child will be able to unwrap themselves.

Maybe a gift bag filled with shredded paper with a couple of small toys hidden in. The child will have fun, and with any luck you will get some lovely photos.

9mths is a really easy age to buy for. Who cares if she won't remember, you will. And people buy Christmas gifts for their pets why wouldn't you buy for a baby?

A push along, could be a pram type or trolly or vtech type walker.

A ride on, could go for one of the mini micro scooters that will last for years.

Stacking cups or blocks.

Bath toys.

A special teddy bear (she won't love it yet but we bought my son one at that age and now that he's 2 he sleeps with it every night which is lovely) and some slippers matching with her brother. I'm not sure what else... probably little toys, I might see if local charity shops have anything because she's a massive fan of plastic light up tat which I hate spending money on because we end up donating it away anyway! Gifts I bought for my son at that age were a small rocking horse (again, couldn't use it right away), a wooden walker, some wooden blocks, an instrument set and books.

Another reason not to buy children's clothes with names, a stranger could easily lure the child using their name. 'Hey Jonny, your mums says you've to come with me' is much more convincing to a child than 'Hey your mum says you've to come with me'.

Nothing, just the boxes and wrapping

anotherscroller · 08/11/2022 10:32

I would get something for their parents, not a baby

It's the Ops own daughter.

Topseyt123 · 08/11/2022 11:08

Mine were only interested in the boxes and the wrapping paper at that age.

anotherscroller · 08/11/2022 11:35

Ah sorry.

Twizbe · 08/11/2022 11:38

Clothes you'd be buying for her anyway. A bag of veggie straws. Maybe 1 toy. Nothing crazy.

RedWingBoots · 08/11/2022 11:40

Normal stuff the baby needs wrapped with colourful paper.

The wrapping will be more interesting that the presents.

Next year put something in the largest cardboard box you can find.

Inasec24 · 09/11/2022 10:08

A Teddy bear with the year on the foot - Hamleys or Disney Store do them

A jumperoo

Little personalised bath robe

Chuckle94 · 09/11/2022 13:17

Thank you for all the suggestions x

Jumperoo or Baby walker
Tomy Hide and Seek Eggs
Stacking cups or a ring stack toy

LouiseGMumsnet · 20/12/2022 11:46

Hi @Chuckle94 Thanks for posting. Hopefully you're all sorted for Christmas now. However, if you're still looking for inspiration. Here's the link to our article on the best toys for 9 month old babies. I hope it helps!

MamaFirst · 20/12/2022 11:50

My 6mo got a big soft cuddly polar bear from Santa - for the other children's benefits. She still sleeps with it now though. I don't think I got her anything. I wouldn't worry personally if she doesn't need anything.

LT2 · 20/12/2022 11:53

This is my baby's first too. He'll be 11 months. Right now he loves stacking cups. Not stacking them yet but he loves to roll them about, crawl with them in his hands, throw them (I think he likes the noise it makes). We aren't getting him much but family are!

HoppingPavlova · 20/12/2022 12:12

Nope as they had no idea what Xmas was. Only started it for ones that age (and younger) when the older ones started to ask why Santa didn’t get younger sibling something. Fact was younger siblings have an absolute ball being given wrapping paper and boxes from other siblings gifts.

KnittedCardi · 20/12/2022 12:15

Parker231 · 07/11/2022 18:39

Cardboard boxes - best present ever at that age

Hahahahaha, was just coming on to say the exact same thing. Cats and babies, both love a box, just draw a smiley face on it, job done!

Lullabies2Paralyze · 20/12/2022 12:26

My DS will also be 9 months. I’ve gotten him 2 toys which are aged 1+ and then I have filled his stocking with some toys and scarves he already has as someone told me they’re more interested in paper (he LOVES a bit of paper haha) and that sort of thing so to not overdo it

from the bag off my mam it looks like he’s been spoilt by his nanna (a snowsuit and a dressing gown and then stuff that’s wrapped so I don’t know what!)

caringcarer · 20/12/2022 12:29

A sit and ride toy.
Stacking beakers.
Soft blocks.
Teddy bear.
Books.

Lots you can buy for a baby of 9 months.

cavily1806 · 20/12/2022 12:37

DD was 10 months last year. I got her a book and put the money difference that I spent on her sister into a savings account

Chuckle94 · 21/12/2022 22:35

I didn’t buy her anything in the end, friends and family members have bought her a lot of clothes which is what she really needs. I’m going to buy her a ball pit soon

They really don't need very much, they won't know and won't remember.

My parents gave me a teddy for my first Christmas, which I loved, still have and still treasure.

It's a long time since I had little ones but seem to remember there were toys for 9-12 months, maybe a couple do things to tide her over till her birthday?
