Are oodies worth the money?

Or are the generic non-branded ones just as good? I think my DC would love them, but they're so expensive. If they're actually miles better then their competitors than I don't mind splashing out - but are they?

We have Kidd.ly ones and oddies. I personally prefer the Kidd.ly ones but they are pretty much the same thing and same price.

No idea if they are better than the knock offs, sorry.

Amoreena · 06/11/2022 10:52

The Amazon Sienna ones are great. Had mine a while.

boredOf · 06/11/2022 10:54

Nope. Knocks offs just as good.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 06/11/2022 10:55

I bought cheaper ones the first time to see if the kids actually used them, they did so I bought Oodies last Christmas. They are better quality and the kids love them.

if you can afford it, they are worth the money.

Chilpa · 06/11/2022 10:58

I bought a knock off on amazon and then got an oodie as a chriatmas present last year, they're so much better, longer, warmer, thicker, l never wear my knock off one now.

YouDoIDo · 06/11/2022 11:01

I bought the kids the M&S ones for £16 I got the next size up and they are as good as the oodies my mum bought them. Save your money and get them something extra.

ExplodingCarrots · 06/11/2022 11:01

I got me and DD a kuddly last year . They are very close to an Oodie ..think they're longer ! I've said it on another Xmas thread but it's one of the best presents I've ever had . I've seen my friends Amazon knock off and it's not the same . They're around same price as oodie but if you're lucky they do good offers.

RagzRebooted · 06/11/2022 11:04

I think there's a big difference between a £20 one and the branded ones, but there's mid range ones still cheaper than the Oodie. The one I bought DD was called The Comfy and cost £45, now £50 on amazon. Very good quality, though can't compare to an Oodie as I don't have one but I've felt cheap ones in shops and they were much thinner.
I couldn't spend £75 on one.

IhateJan22 · 06/11/2022 11:05

Kuddly has an offer at the moment if you preorder. 4 for £139.

snugglyblanket · 06/11/2022 11:07

We have Oodies and generic ones. The quality of the oodies is much better than any other I've seen. However, I think it depends who you are buying for & what they'll be doing in it.
I love the thickness and length of the oodie but I run cold. My DD lives in her generic one as it is thinner so can go over anything and it isn't as heavy. The Oodie is very heavy so I find I end up taking it off to do things. DD does often steal my oodie if she's having a movie night though as the generic one just isn't as warm or cosy.

ProfessorInkling · 06/11/2022 11:07

I splurged on an oodie for my DD, I haven’t tried any of the cheaper ones - but, it looks like new after two years of being washed and worn constantly, the fluffiness is as soft and bouncy as ever.

I do really rate the fleece/Sherpa blankets from Amazon though, they hold up great so their oodies will probably be good.

My DD has one of the oodie weighted blankets too and for anyone reading who might be wondering - definitely worth paying the extra for these.

Circleoffifths · 06/11/2022 11:08

We have Oodies. I have seen cheaper ones in Primark and they can’t be compared. Cheaper ones are thinner and not as soft. Although our cat thinks my oodie is hers.

MrsW85 · 06/11/2022 11:11

Currently sat in mine. They are double layer fleece, that's why there are so warm. The cheap ones are just one layer. Definitely worth the money in my opinion. I've bought 2 kids ones for Xmas. I got a pack of 2 for £94, there wasn't a huge amount of choice but my boys fight over mine so I know they will be worn.

GhostCastle · 06/11/2022 11:11

I have a Sienna hoodie and an Oodie. The Oodie is noticeably thicker and warmer.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 06/11/2022 11:12

Thank you all, this is good to know.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 06/11/2022 11:12

Yes! They are head and shoulders above the cheapy ones.

SNWannabe · 06/11/2022 11:15

yes they're like a duvet that can be worn!

Floralnomad · 06/11/2022 11:41

We have Oodies and my daughter has a Primark knock off and the Oodies are definitely warmer , however the Primark one gets more use because we don’t live in a cold house and she finds the Oodie a bit heavy ( she’s 5’5” and petite )

BeyondMyWits · 06/11/2022 11:47

Make sure your washing machine is able to handle the weight of one when it is wet. Dd is not the tidiest of eater/drinkers etc, so it needs washing fairly often... it goes to the launderette after almost shaking the kitchen to bits! so it does not get worn as much now.

Glenthebattleostrich · 06/11/2022 11:50

i have kuddly ones. Caught DH stealing it lately so bought more! They are absolutely gorgeous and snuggly

Whatsleftnow · 06/11/2022 11:51

I don’t have an oodie. The primark snoodies are popular in my house, and I like that they come in different sizes (iirc oodies were one size but that might have changed)

I was in a discount stock type shop recently and they had a range of knock offs, all around the same price but some were double fleece, and others were a single layer of teddy fleece which wouldn’t be very warm. So the quality varies a lot.

The problem with buying through Amazon is that sometimes the first round of a product is great, and then they cut quality and production cost and surf on the good reviews for a while. I’d recommend buying somewhere you can touch what you’re getting.

LubaLuca · 06/11/2022 13:07

I bought a £20 one in The Range last week, just plain grey with a fluffy white lining. It does the job, it's too warm and gets peeled off often. I just couldn't justify spending so much more on a branded one - I'd rather spend that extra on putting the heating on a bit more.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 06/11/2022 13:11

I appreciate this doesn’t help right now but Oodie do have BOGOF offers now and then, which is when I picked up two for my two for Xmas. Great value at half price, I thought.

SundayShawl · 06/11/2022 13:23

I got Oodies for dsd and me last year when they were on offer. Definitely worth the money - we're both wearing them today to save putting the heating on.

RobinRobinMouse · 06/11/2022 13:42

My nieces have real ones and I have one from the Online Home Shop, I can't really see much difference in them to be honest, both are equally thick and warm etc. Perhaps only really that the designs are less exciting.
