Breakfast:

Scrambled egg with herbs, smoked salmon
Champagne
Tea

About 6ish:

Devils on horseback
Pigs in blankets
Cheese board

That's about it really. We have our Xmas food on Boxing Day; it started as dh didn't really want to help cook so I was constantly in and out of the sitting room and missed a lot of present opening and stuff, so rather than help more he thought it better to move it entirely. Then he started helping, now he's a Master of Spuds (speciality Roasties)! In fact he tends to do the veg, his parsnip purée is incredible! I deal with meat, sauces and gravy and pudding - which we generally don't want because we're too full!

Roast parsnips
Carrots roasted in orange and maple syrup with thyme
Stuffing balls
Pigs in blankets
Red cabbage
Shredded sprouts fried with bacon and butter
Cauliflower cheese
Tenderstem broccoli
Petit pois peas
Yorkshire puddings
Bread sauce
Turkey gravy

Usually nothing else on Christmas Day but champagne/ sparkling water

runjy · 30/10/2022 17:19

lots of cauliflower cheese on here, didn't realise that was a christmas thing.

Fairislefandango · 30/10/2022 17:31

Cup of tea. Breakfast varies according to who's hosting, but often scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or ham and toast.

Then presents, with Bucks Fizz / champagne and nibbles afterwards (homemade sausage rolls if we're at PIL).

Late lunch: roast turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, various veg (always sprouts though). Choice of Christmas pudding, mince pies or Yule log. Cheese for anyone who's still got room. Wine (white for me).

Late tea: turkey and/or ham sandwiches, cheese and biscuits, mince pies

Fairislefandango · 30/10/2022 17:33

Other than Brussels sprouts, I don't think of any particular veg as Christmassy or non-Christmassy tbh - pretty much any veg is fair game for Christmas lunch imo.

dottydoglover · 30/10/2022 17:35

We are going for a curry - banquet on Xmas day - then have pickles and turkey etc in evening !

Ellnet · 30/10/2022 17:45

Bacon rolls with tea then a walk with the dogs. I have a long hot bath when we get back while DH sorts a seafood platter and champagne. We always get a huge cheeseboard for the evening from an amazing local cheese maker. It’s only DH and I for Christmas these days which we love.

AlwaysLatte · 30/10/2022 17:46

Our favourite meal of the year!! We have:
Breakfast
Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on sourdough bread
Bucks Fizz
Coffee

Lunch at 2.00
Turkey & home made stuffing and gravy
Roast potatoes
Red cabbage
Brussels sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta
Roast maple glazed parsnips and carrots
Bread sauce/cranberry sauce
Champagne and wine

Pudding (in theory - we're usually too full so often have it the next day!)
Christmas pudding
Hard sauce

Supper
Cheeseboard
Cold sliced turkey
Sliced pre cooked and glazed ham
Pickles (must get on and do those!)
Salad
Port and brandy

I make as much as I possible can in the days before so that hardly any prep has to be done on the day.

AlwaysLatte · 30/10/2022 17:49

I thought the same! Also interesting to have Yorkshire puddings - never had those with Christmas lunch (but always with roast beef, I love them!)

IhearyouClemFandango · 30/10/2022 17:51

Normally bacon sandwiches and/or pain au choc for breakfast with lots of coffee.

Champagne/bucks fizz. Kids have lots of chocolate. 🙄

Lunch is oven canapés en masse, with salmon blinis etc, more champagne. Open tree presents while eating. Appletize for kids.

Snacking through afternoon.

Roast turkey etc for dinner.

Pudding is normally cake, ice cream, Yule log etc. Cheese board. More wine/port. Baileys.

A580Hojas · 30/10/2022 18:01

Coffee. Sherry. Nuts and crisps and maybe some M&S heat up in the oven type nibbly things. White wine. Christmas dinner. Christmas pudding. Glass of Baileys or Amaretto. Maybe some crackers in cheese in the evening if any room left.

AlwaysLatte · 30/10/2022 18:03

I forgot the pigs in blankets. Not for the first time!
I have a folder now with the recipes and timings so it's foolproof and I can't forget anything.

bengalcat · 30/10/2022 18:05

Too much .

Lindy2 · 30/10/2022 18:14

Breakfast tends to be croissants with cream cheese and either a selection of salamis or smoked salmon. Everyone helps themselves.

At lunchtime we do a traditional Christmas lunch. Roast turkey, ham, pigs in blankets, my speciality stuffing with chestnuts, sage and onion stuffing, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, red cabbage, roast parsnips, roast carrots, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and lots of gravy.

Later on it's a selection of desserts such as Christmas pudding, ice cream or pavlova.

If anyone has a room left in the evening then it's turkey sandwiches and finishing the leftover lunchtime desserts.

Wine and Bucks Fizz, teas and coffees flow all day.

FallHappy1 · 30/10/2022 20:50

Breakfast: lots of bucks fizz, some coffee, orange juice for the kids, bacon, sausage and egg bagels or sandwiches. But we're thinking maybe we'll switch it up and get some pastries this year.

Lunch:
Prawn cocktail for starters and then
Turkey with all the trimmings

Dinner:
Turkey sandwiches, cheese and crackers, chocolate.

GettingStuffed · 30/10/2022 21:07

This year we're at DD s so don't know

At home we usually have mince pies for unwrapping, then smoked salmon or bacon and eggs, bucks fizz of components there of.

Starters are usually about 2, garlic and chilli prawns or soup with breadsticks.
Main at 4 turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, bread sauce, cranberry sauce roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips , peas and red cabbage.Plus the best gravy in the world.

Pudding at around 7 or 8 then it's that for the day food wise

Drinks Christmas beer, late morning, pre dinner sherry, red and white wine with dinner. After dinner drink, then beers throughout.

Chocolates aren't omitted we don't have them

runjy · 30/10/2022 21:14

I'm going to add cauliflower cheese as I love it & don't have it enough!

runjy · 30/10/2022 21:18

I also didn't realise port & brandy was so popular, I've never met anyone who drinks it in real life.

Fluffluff · 30/10/2022 21:21

Bit weird but a childhood tradition is tinned mandarins for breakfast.

Snacking on chocolate till lunch around 1.30

Lunch : turkey.. Stuffing. Roast pots... Carrots.. Small sausages.. Pancetta rolled up.. Gravy.

2 or 3 hour gap: pudding.. Pavoloa.. Xmas pudding etc

Oh drink... A few sherry and lemonade throughout day.
Wine with lunch and a few fruit ciders in the eve
Can't wait

CaronPoivre · 30/10/2022 21:25

You lost me with a mashed potato sandwich. Sounds grim.

Tea and cofffe. People can have a banana or some toast if they want, before church.

Salmon and a few bits with fizz at our friend's house after church.

Christmas lunch. Very traditional. Turkey, veggie something, piggies, S&O and chestnut stuffing, Yorkshire puddings, sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, parsnips and carrots, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, swede, potatoes, bread sauce, gravy, cranberry and port.
Christmas pudding, mince pies, brandy butter, Christmas ice cream, cream.

Topped up with chocolate, dates, marzipan fruits and jellies etc.

sunshineandrain82 · 30/10/2022 21:26

For us it depends who has our eldest for what part of the day (if she's home with us or visiting her mum for Christmas morning)

Breakfast:
Fry up if it's our turn to have Christmas Eve and morning.
Bacon sandwiches if shes home with us for Christmas dinner.

Lunch:
We have a turkey and gammon with all the trimmings.

Pudding:
Trifle
Chocolate Yule log or a chocolate cake.

Our son who has a feeding disorder has what he fancies. Last year he had McDonald's nuggets.

We have a cheese and crackers later. And open up the sweets.
If we are hosting then we have what drinks my family bring. If it's just us we usually drink what is in.

TheRookie · 30/10/2022 21:35

@alternativelywired I have never heard of a friend mash potato butty?!? What is this wizardry?

We have

Coffee in bed while the kids open stockings

Breakfast: peanut butter and honey toast for the kids, bacon sandwiches for the adults, then pan au chocolate and bucks fizz.

Lunch is usually just snacks, crisps, dips, nuts, olives, breadsticks, chocolates etc with G&Ts

Early dinner around 3/4ish

Starter: smoked salmon and prawn cocktail with salad, seeded bread and butter

Main: Either turkey or beef rib roast
Sausage meat stuffing
Sage and onion stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Roast potatoes
Roast carrots
Carrot and turnip mash
brocolli
Red cabbage
Gravy

Pudding: Christmas pudding and brandy sauce, double cream
And
Raspberry roulade and cream or a variation of.

All with paired wines.

Later on the cheese board comes out, really good cheese from the cheesemonger, oatcakes, fruit, chutney, good port.

Later later on boxes of chocolates come out then, with drams

All about food in our house 😂
