Croisssants and marmalade for breakfast (hubby usually has a bacon buttie)

Kir Royale or Bucks Fizz on and off through the morning.

We have our lunch around 4pm usually.

Slow roast lamb
Honey glazed carrots
Roast potatoes
Creamed parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Cabbage
Pigs in blankets
Some sort of chocolate dessert

(there's only me that likes turkey and christmas pudding so I make sure I get that on a lunch out with friends).

Red wine

Later in the evening - my body weight in chocolate.

Medoca · 29/10/2022 18:57

Coffee in bed, open the stockings, maybe a couple of truffles from the stockings with the coffee!

1030 - champagne/bellinis, smoked salmon bagels with capers and red onion

Walk or bike down the canal, drink in the pub (it’s only open for 2hrs, so you have to time it well!).

1500 - cold seafood platter with champagne

Presents! Singing (badly) around the piano.

1900 - roast bird (changes depending on amount of guests), plus a large fillet of beef. Roast potatoes, ridiculous amounts of vegetable dishes (love the leftovers for Boxing Day), roast potatoes, sauces depend on the meat. The good wine!

Games, etc

2300 - cheese, port, nightcaps.

Music, putting the world to rights, more nightcaps, helping those who have had too many nightcaps up the stairs!

I love Christmas Day!

Frenzi101 · 29/10/2022 18:59

When the children were small I never bothered with a big xmas lunch as really all they wanted to do was eat chocolate!

So instead we would have lasagne with garlic bread and salad. And I had some little retro xmas cake decorations that went on top of the lasagne!!

stopitstopitnow · 29/10/2022 19:35

Breakfast - coffee and whatever DP makes, brought to me in bed

Dinner - Not doing a traditional Christmas dinner as neither me or DP are that keen on it and I no longer have anyone other than the 2 of us to cater for. This year we might have a mushroom wellington as it was mentioned on another thread and it sounds quite good.

Late afternoon - Birthday cake that DP has bought for me.

Evening - as much cheese and crackers as we can handle.

We will also eat lots of chocolate and a fair few mince pies.

ShakeYourFeathers · 29/10/2022 19:37

I’m well impressed you’re still awake at 10 pm !!

I learnt the hard way to drink small and to take it easy but look like you're still drinking.

reluctantbrit · 29/10/2022 19:48

Breakfast - Waitrose frozen pastries, croissants, pain au chocolate, pain au raisin. DH may have an Egg Benedict.

Lunch (normal lunch time) - some form of roast, maybe chicken, pork, wild boar. We are only three and we don't like turkey.
That comes with sprouts for DH, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips.
No idea about dessert but in the last years we had Panna Cotta, melt in the middle chocolate pudding, ice and hot (vanilla ice with hot cherry compote, a German thing called Eis und Heiß)
Sparkling wine to drink

Dinner: baguette (these part-baked ones), cold cuts, cheese

Stollen, Yule log, Lebkuchen, Vanilla Kipferl and lots of chocolate in the afternoon

Wine, Sparkling Wine, Port, beer and juice to drink

okbluejays · 29/10/2022 19:53

Breakfast (7am)
Croissants with butter and jam
Bucks fizz or orange juice

Lunch (2pm)
Roast turkey
Roast potatoes
Honey roast carrots and parsnips
Braised red cabbage
Pigs in blankets
Homemade cranberry sauce
Stuffing (I do stuffing balls, don’t like it in the turkey)

To drink with lunch I have Julmust (it’s a Christmassy soft drink they have in Sweden), the rest of the family have wine and some Julmust too

Dessert: Christmas pudding with clotted cream (partner has brandy butter with his)

In the evening, chocolates (we have our favourite boxed chocolate from Sweden: Aladdin, plus Quality Street, After Eights and Elizabeth Shaw mints). Everyone has a favourite so we just have a selection for people to pick from.

If still hungry before bed might have some cheese and crackers with ham (this is what we have for dinner on Christmas Eve along with baked potatoes, and usually have some left over)

Through the day we might drink: Egg Nog, wine, champagne, Julmust, other non alcoholic drinks like J20 or Appletiser, and my dad likes a brandy after dinner.

think that covers it!

Tinkers2021 · 29/10/2022 20:08

Breakfast: tea in bed whilst opening stockings. Then a selection of hot pastries, smoked salmon, bacon, Buck’s Fizz

Lunch: Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, usually beef and turkey
something chocolatey for pudding, wine

Dinner: left overs, chocolate, sausage rolls, pickles, cheese.

Wine and chocolates throughout the day

Parmesam · 29/10/2022 20:32

Tea and toast

Nothing until dinner, then:

Turkey with a slice of ham
Pigs in blankets
Variety of veg
Paxo stuffing
Cauliflower cheese
Mashed swede
Roast onions

I swerve the Brussel Sprouts.

If I'm working the next day I drink fizzy pop. If not, it's a lager.

Christmas Pudding or some M&S posh desert if I fancy it.

Hours later...

Cheese and biscuits
Various savouries
Christmas cake
More lager/fizzy pop.

Before bed, raid the chocolates. I like Roses. The others (heathens) like Celebrations.

Parmesam · 29/10/2022 20:33

Forgot the roast tatties. Of course. The traditional way is to cook too much and eat them cold with your supper later. It's a South London thing.

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/10/2022 21:09

Breakfast
Cinnamon buns, croissants, lots of coffee

Christmas dinner (usually around 2 pm)
Ham or roast beef
rice and gravy
green beans
sweet potatoes
fruit salad (made with oranges)
rolls
coconut cake for dessert

Supper
Ham biscuits (if ham for Christmas dinner) with spicy mustard or roast beef sandwiches if roast beef
More coconut cake

I'm in the Southern US, so the biscuits are what we Americans call biscuits.

In my family, we have a fairly low key Christmas dinner, the big blow out meal having occurred just a few weeks before at Thanksgiving.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 29/10/2022 22:03

Breakfast is either bacon sandwiches or scrambled egg & smoked salmon.
Then lunch. Starting with champagne & canapes.
Sweet potato & coconut soup.
Goats cheese mousse with beetroot carpaccio.
Roast turkey with stuffing & pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, sprouts, carrots, braised red cabbage, gravy.
Christmas pudding & brandy custard or chocolate orange cheesecake with orange curd.
Stilton & Baron Bigod cheese with fruit loaf, apple chutney & grapes.
Champagne throughout then coffee to finish.
Evening is a buffet of cold meats, seafood, cheeses, salads and breads. With profiteroles & trifle/tiramisu for pudding.

VeronicaFranklin · 29/10/2022 22:40

Breakfast -
Warm Croissants with Proper butter and Jam
Freshly brewed coffee
Bucks Fizz
(Some years we have had bacon sandwiches but I find them too messy and filling first thing)

Christmas Dinner -
Roast Turkey (we get a rolled joint from the local butcher which is always lovely)
Roast Gammon from butchers, I always roast it in a mixture of marmalade, muscovado sugar, mustard, all spice and studded with cloves. It smells amazing wafting through the house while cooking it on Christmas Eve.
Sprouts
Carrots
Mash
Roast potatoes in goose fat
Yorkshire puddings
Pig in Blankets
Gravy
Bread sauce
Cranberry Sauce
Wine/Prosecco/Champagne

Dessert -
Trifle
Usually something seasonal from M&S

Later -
Christmas cake
Yule log
Cheeseboard (traditionally stilton/brie/mature cheddar and a couple of speciality cheeses) and crackers
Christmas choccies like Matchmakers, Quality streets etc.
End of Christmas Day large glass of Bailey's on Ice while watching Xmas tv.

Boxing Day my husband always makes a Boxing Day sandwich of all the leftovers!

Medoca · 29/10/2022 23:14

I thought butter on croissants was one of oddest things I’ve seen today, but jam?!! That’s blown my mind!! It’s it a Christmas thing, I’ve never heard of this!

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 29/10/2022 23:23

Coffee for breakfast, coffee for lunch, full Christmas dinner for dinner, puddings into the evening, then wine and port.

I prefer being nice and hungry for the main meal. The DCs will snack on the nuts, cheeses and chocolate laid out for the festivities if they want to, then full dinner for them too.

XAQ · 29/10/2022 23:28

Wow. I had no idea people go all out !! These look amazing!

We have starters at 12 - patè or prawns
Xmas lunch at 3pm. Turkey, potatoes and veg (stuffing, pigs, etc)
Pudding at 6pm - cake, mince pies or Xmas pudding.

Never drink as driving.

YuliaJollyberry · 30/10/2022 09:59

To start - a big glass of water whilst I get the turkey out of the fridge and put fires and twinkle lights on. I’m first up nowadays by at least a hour so I’ll have a half piece of toast with butter and rose petal jam with Christmas blend coffee and carols playing. Is lovely.

From the breakfast picnic spread - a cranberry orange muffin warm out of the oven with my second cup of coffee and a small dish of Christmas fruit salad (a mixture of tinned fruit in syrup). Then an elfed egg, three or four blinis overloaded with cream cheese, assorted smoked fish, blob of crème fraiche and topped with caviar. With a couple of mimosas/Buck’s Fizzes. By this point I should have reached the chocolate orange in my stocking so a couple of segments and a chocolate coin or two. I’ll have another glass of water after I’ve cleared away the breakfast things and a cup of tea late morning.

Around midday I’ll nibble on cashew’s whilst putting out the bowls of mixed nuts before a Virgin Mary, 1 or 2 devil’s on horseback and a mini sticky chipolata. I’ll have another glass of water before the next course a couple of hours later.

From the canapé selection - a cube of melon wrapped in Parma ham, rum infused grilled grapefruit segments and a mini prawn cocktail with a flute of champagne.

A bit later the big roast - I’ll have a slice of turkey, a sage onion stuffing ball, a tiny serving of chefs stuffing surprise, a Yorkshire pudding, couple of roast potatoes, roast parsnips, a boiled new potato, lots of overdone sprouts, swede and carrot mash, buttered chantenay carrots, tipsy cranberry sauce and gravy with a glass of white wine.

During intermission and table games I’ll have a glass of fizzy water or two.

Then it’s a small portion of flaming Christmas pudding with iced rum sauce and a smidgen of brandy butter. It was champagne butter last year and I still wasn’t keen but do like to try. I have a half glass of dessert wine.

Next is a cup of tea or coffee with petit fours which I’m too full for really but usually manage one.

I may or may not have a snowball to drink at some point before the next course which is a few hours away. Or a cup of tea. Or both.

In the evening I’ll choose some cheese from the board with chutney and relish on oat cakes, dried apple slices or plain Pringle type crisps and some candied nuts. The Christmas cake is cut and I’ll have a sliver with a bit of cheddar. A couple of cubes of Turkish delight to end with. I’ll have a glass of port or maybe sherry.

Way after 8 it’s time for the array of chocolate mints and I’ll have a liqueur coffee with a couple of my favourites.

I may have a flute of champagne and I’ll definitely have another fizzy water.

I finish with a nip of green chartreuse in flat champagne if there’s any left with a cherry in or over ice if not.

CornishGem1975 · 30/10/2022 11:31

Justjoinedforthis · 30/10/2022 14:34

Every year is different with us, so don’t have much to contribute, but I just wanted to say I could literally read thread after thread on Christmas food and drink - thanks to everyone for posting! It just never gets old. I think I like reading about Christmas more than actual Christmas.

ThreeRingCircus · 30/10/2022 15:53

Breakfast

Bucks fizz to drink. Toasted bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon. DDs have the bagels just buttered and any chocolate from their stockings plus orange juice to drink.

Lunch

Traditional Christmas dinner. Usually turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, roast potatoes, honey roast carrots and parsnips, sprouts and gravy.

Later afternoon

We take a break after Christmas dinner and go for a walk. Then have Christmas pudding and custard around 4pm.

Evening

DDs go to bed and DH and I have turkey sandwiches if we fancy it plus mince pies or any of the Christmas chocolate we inevitably have. We'll have a drink too. Bailey's or a brandy usually.

blusteryshowersaway · 30/10/2022 16:16

breakfast is croissants, pan au chocolate and cinnamon buns with jams, butter or just as they are. Chocolate, coffee and may be champagne.

We don’t eat a big lunch but I’ll put on some party nibbles/canapés.

Dinner this year will be beef Wellington and the DC are having lamb. Roast potatoes, gravy, veg.

Dessert will be ice cream. Yule log, more chocolate.

Cheese and biscuits and port. Chocoate.

multivac · 30/10/2022 16:20

Medoca · 29/10/2022 23:14

I thought butter on croissants was one of oddest things I’ve seen today, but jam?!! That’s blown my mind!! It’s it a Christmas thing, I’ve never heard of this!

Freshly baked croissants with salted butter and homemade blackcurrant jam = heaven!

SystemOfAFrowns · 30/10/2022 16:26

Breakfast -

continental buffet, freshly made croissants (chocolate and plain) toast and preserves, orange juice and tea. I get ‘nice’ butter and spreads for Christmas Day.

mid morning - mince pies, half a chocolate orange Blush

2pm - Christmas lunch. I personally just have Turkey, a fuck load of roast potatoes, veggies and more Yorkshire puddings than anyone should eat. Oh and the odd chipolata

5pm - dessert - usually some Yule log (fresh cream one from M&S, some ice cream, chocolates.

8pm - cheese and crackers

10pm - the other half of the chocolate orange Grin
