Magazine subscription
National Trust membership
Hot air balloon ride

SafeHeaven · 16/10/2022 07:22

Nothing.

MintJulia · 16/10/2022 07:24

Do you have any dsis?

you could have a joint photo taken and give that to your dad.

Solosunrise · 16/10/2022 07:25

I'd ask them.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 16/10/2022 07:26

Nothing. Really, just not worth it. Agree a reciprocal no present year. Such a waste to spend on shite they don't need.

Beautifulsunflowers · 16/10/2022 07:27

The gift of time! A day spent with you - you could take your dad out for the day - national trust or English heritage place followed by lunch, or an experience you could do together.
For your boyfriend- is there something you can do together you can get tickets for? A sports event or concert? Dinner at a fancy restaurant?

DarkNecessities · 16/10/2022 07:29

Tell us more about them both and also how much you want to spend 😊

SunnySomer · 16/10/2022 07:31

A consumable that they like. Eg a GOOD bottle of red wine. A voucher for a really good meal out. Or a new book.
I have stopped trying to think of Stuff because they all have lots… and when you’re 50 or whatever there are only so many lovely things or useful things your house can contain.

erinaceus · 16/10/2022 07:33

Something from the Good Gifts catalogue, plus a token present for them.

BlackberryCat · 16/10/2022 07:35

I just do socks and a box of licorice for my dad. My sons just want money. I feel like a lot of guys aren’t so interested in getting presents. I use the money I save to buy myself something nice. Win-win for us all!

poorpaws · 16/10/2022 07:38

Save a tiger in the wild, adopt an elephant at the zoo. Charities are struggling at the moment so if they have everything give the money to something that really needs it.

Gatehouse77 · 16/10/2022 07:45

Have you had a conversation with them about gift ideas?

Over the years my brothers and I have agreed to stop buying presents for each other and, as my children (the only ones on that side of the family) have got older, it’s the same from them. Mostly, it’s because my brothers are lazy and don’t want to put the effort in but it saves me having to do smuts either.
DH and I stopped exchanging gifts because he’s crap at thinking in advance so it was a last minute panic thought which is meaningless to me. (‘It’s the thought that counts’ is such a rubbish saying!) Equally, if it wasn’t something he actively couldn’t see the point/value in it. Frankly, it’s easier all round but it does feel disappointing sometimes. N.B. he’s very thoughtful in other ways in our daily life but just doesn’t do gift buying.)

I do wonder if some people are stuck in a cycle of buying presents because neither side has opened a conversation about it.

Bottle or case of wine depending on your budget (if they like wine of course)

Magazine subscription or a chocolate/cheese one

Favourite restaurant or shop voucher

Tickets to a local attraction- I’ve done The Tank Museum and Bletchley Park, followed by lunch there

Concert or show tickets

Afternoon tea voucher

Car valeting voucher

National Trust / English Heritage membership

Hotandbothereds · 16/10/2022 12:39

Something to do rather than a thing.

Tickets for a gig, festival, or the theatre. Vouchers for a restaurant?

A weekend away in a nice hotel, an annual membership to a local attraction or national trust?

cofeetablebook · 16/10/2022 12:43

Penicillin 😁

CheeseMaiden · 16/10/2022 12:44

Consumables! Coffee subscription, good bottle of wine/beer, tickets to a class or event. If all else fails, socks.

EndlessMagpies · 16/10/2022 12:45

@cofeetablebook You beat me to it!

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/10/2022 12:48

something they don’t need but would really like? Art, maybe. Or one of the best received by men in my family, a monogrammed hotel style towelling robe in their favourite colour.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/10/2022 12:53

Nice versions of their favourite food

Cismyfatarse · 16/10/2022 12:53

I got DH "something money can't buy" for his 60th which was a sequence of days out with friends. I paid but they took him to do things they love. My gift was the planning.

aus12 · 16/10/2022 15:01

I’ve bought bacon subscriptions before for male family members. You can also get a charcuterie one too if they don’t like bacon.

I can't afford to waste money on stuff that isn't going to be used so I've asked my boyfriend what he wants for his 'main' Christmas and birthday gift this year. I'm still going to be getting him some surprises but smaller things and things that I know he uses/will use.

My dad always asks for a specific CD so I get him that and then hope he asks for something else but if not there's always foods :P
