24th November- staff Christmas meal
25th November- village light switch on
2nd December- Christmas meal and disco
3rd December- Panto
8th December- Carol Concert
11th December - Christmas concert
15th to 17th December- weekend away

Lots of these activities are in our village and either free to attend or cheap… can’t wait!

Our youngest is 17 and the others adults so Dh and I have booked a weekend away to Christmas markets in Europe early December just the 2 of us..
We will possibly book a family show in between Christmas and new year and
Looking to book a raclette experience too but that will be it for all of us.

spagbog5 · 30/09/2022 17:29

Oh and will do a big family meal with my side of the family on Christmas Eve at a lovely local restaurant.

gogohmm · 30/09/2022 17:47

@DenholmElliot1 Grin

I'm organising multiple events or taking part, no time to attend others!

For those with budget constraints, most churches especially those with a strong musical tradition, will have carol services, the one organised by the church will usually be free (there may be charity ones in addition with charges) we provide mince pies and mulled wine to follow as well (donations welcome but not required). I used to take my kids to the area of my mums town with lots of decorated houses too, free (well petrol not free but you know what I mean). Look out for Christmas craft afternoons too, we are running two at church and are asking for £3 per child which includes all materials, drinks and snacks for the kids and an adult accompanying them.

Free one off ticket for NT entry here for up to x 2 adults and x 2 kids to be used by the end of November

Apparently confirmation emails are taking a few days to come through

Father Christmas grotto and light up show in a forest park. Would like to see a panto but put off by the cost.

Olinguito · 05/10/2022 18:30

Thank you for the National Trust link tellmewhen - brilliant offer!

Blueberrycreampie · 05/10/2022 18:39

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz
Thank you very much for sharing this👍.

Garysmum · 05/10/2022 18:42

None - concerned about catching bugs from indoor socialising. Can't avoid the stuff the kids bring home from school but I'd say it's quite high risk as people will go out when ill because they don't want the children to miss out on XYZ Christmas activity.

Samanabanana · 05/10/2022 18:42

I've booked a Santa experience and the RHS glow event. I was hoping to book a non pantomimey theatre trip but I've not found anything suitable locally!

We're cutting right back this Xmas so it's just carols at the royal Albert hall, Christmas at Kew, 5 nights in Lapland, skating at Somerset house, winter wonderland at Hyde park, Xmas wreath making, breakfast with Santa and the panto at Birmingham hippodrome.

That’s so sad 🙁

PandaG · 05/10/2022 18:57

Theatre week before Christmas - present to our adult DC last Christmas. Carol Service at the church we attend. We will stay with extended family for 4/5 days over Christmas - spending time with cousins and Grandparents is what we have always done for Christmas, and it costs very little.

Will have a Christmas meal with book group, and probably a Christmas meal with another circle of friends but these are not yet booked. Adult DC will have their own Christmas meals/nights out with colleagues/housemates.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/10/2022 23:43

That’s a fantastic recommendation @gogohmm all the local churches in my area do a big joint Christmas carol event to bring all the religions together. It’s lovely as each year a different church hosts.

One of the churches near where my parents lived also dose an amazing tree display, filling the entire church with different trees, my children use to love it.

Its all for free.

Plus I saw a notice today on one our community pages saying that several different churches are offering warm hubs over winter a place for people to go and have a hot drink, chat and be warm, especially if they are struggling with heating costs.

Sceptre86 · 06/10/2022 05:17

We are doing a light trail at a nearby country park, irnbru carnival and panto.

HelloIamhere999 · 06/10/2022 05:49

We've got
Lapland Uk, RHS Glow, Disney on Ice & a Christmas panto.

SpringIntoChaos · 06/10/2022 05:57

Erm...zero 🤷‍♀️

Is this a thing now? 🤦‍♀️

You are ver ver welcome Grin

Quizzed · 06/10/2022 10:45

I've booked one thing for the end of November so far. I haven't had my December rota yet so I can't book anything else till then. I also can't book time off work during December otherwise I would have done so.

So you've never done anything christmassy at Christmas? Never taken your kids to Santa's grotto, been to a panto, Carol service, Christmas Market? Yeah OK 🙄

It's always been a thing

Sunshineismyfriend · 06/10/2022 13:53

Mine break up on the 15th so really early. We’ve only booked a light show. I really wanted to watch a show in London (not done it before) and then see the Xmas lights but it’s soo expensive we can’t justify it. They seem to be a bit old for the panto these days as 15 and 11 but would love to do something else.

reluctantbrit · 07/10/2022 08:03

We go ice skating and on a light walk with friends.
Still need to book carol concert tickets, no idea what's left over.

DD will have her dance and choir show one Friday in December.

ScottyDogsForAll · 07/10/2022 10:12

Last weekend in Nov we usually spend the day putting up the tree and lights and decorations then go to see the local light switch on, funfair and back for a movie
Early Dec booked Santa (need to get a head start on those lists 😂)
Mid Dec Light trail
23rd Panto
Christmas Eve we have a party at the in laws before heading back to new PJ's and leaving Santa's goodies out.

Left a weekend free which was good as the kids clubs are taking them to a panto that weekend. Now to keep everything crossed we don't get any clashes 🙏 That's more than enough, if I'd have known clubs plans wouldn't have booked panto!

NisekoWhistler · 07/10/2022 10:23

Panto on Boxing Day
Christmas 🙄 with Blippi
Fortnum and mason Santa storytelling
I think that's it, will likely pick up unwanted tickets for Kew or somewhere else too
