How many activities have you/will you be booking for Christmas?

One light show/ Santa visit was looking to book more but now we are moving house in the lead up so that will probably be it this year

LondonWolf · 29/09/2022 07:35

Christmas at Kew, a night time Christmas lights steam train trip near my parents home, Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park. Possibly Back To The Future musical if funds allow. Don't usually bother with Winter Wonderland even though close by but the Ice Kingdom and Bavarian Village areas were so fun last year and we went early on a week day to avoid the crowds and it ended up being really fun.

MothsAndWaspsAreUsefulPollinators · 29/09/2022 07:56

Absolutely nothing this year (adults and teenagers, no little ones in the wider family at the moment). Previous years, maybe one thing, often just a winter trip to somewhere we were members of anyway, perhaps a trip to a local concert or show of some kind, craft activity, that sort of thing. Sometimes went to the Christingle service.

Have never enjoyed pantomimes even though I admire them as an artform. Could never have afforded dropping several £K on a few days in Lapland but if I had that money at the time, would've spent it on something else anyway.

Didn't bother with visiting Santa because Santa used to come to the children's primary school - I helped him and his elves wrap the gifts one year 😜 Although we used to have a Santa-arrival with lights switch on and sometimes went to that in town.

We do like tracking Santa on NORAD though (c.f. no small children in the family at the moment), mug of mulled wine in hand 😂

Does booking an Ocado delivery on Christmas Eve count?

Definitely! Are the slots coming out already... do I need to check now?!

MothsAndWaspsAreUsefulPollinators · 29/09/2022 07:58

Oh we did go to the lights trail at Waddesdon a few years ago, which included entry to the house as well, that was a good one, would recommend.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/09/2022 10:07

None. Last year I packed so much in, organised during the autumn months, that I barely accounted for all the kids many extra school events and other obligations, like wider family birthday stuff, that it became more an exercise in logistics than festive enjoyment and we were all knackered by the time Christmas rolled around.

So, I'm not booking anything and playing it by ear.

Xmasbaby11 · 29/09/2022 17:11

We will go to the panto and probably a light trail at a wildlife park, then a local santa event which is usually low-key. We go swimming on Xmas eve, go to the cinema at some point - that will be enough. The most important thing for me is leaving time in the run-up to do things like make gingerbread, write cards, watch xmas films and make decorations - these are really special and everyone is so tired by Dec, we are happy to stay at home and not be out in the cold and crowds.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/09/2022 17:16

I've just booked x 2 nights in London in between Christmas and new year for DH, DD14 and I.

I'm ridiculously excited, I love being a tourist in London Grin plus all the Christmas lights will still be up so it'll feel a bit festive still!

Any reccs for amazing and sensibly priced Mexican food close to Tower Bridge Premier inn will be gratefully received by DD!

DorritLittle · 29/09/2022 17:23

I have booked a light show and a Christmas theatre show. I can't afford anything else!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 29/09/2022 22:39

Santa experience and Elf the musical booked after DCs break up for Christmas. Nothing else booked in December as DCs will be doing pantos and lots of Christmas activities with school and guides through December. Still deciding what to do between Xmas and NY, initially we were going to go away for a few days but we have a new puppy so won’t be doing that now.

Fiddledeedeeee · 30/09/2022 07:09

I’m due DC 2 in mid November so have tried to front-fill this year and hoping it works out 😬
•We’ve booked Christmas at chatsworth (gift for a November birthday but we’re going too) mid November
•Father Christmas experience for late November
•’The snowman’ showing with live orchestra in a cathedral for early December, we’ve bought tickets for this and lunch as Christmas presents for hard to buy for family members who don’t need/ want anything, and will make a festive weekend of it as they’ll stay with us .
•We have NT membership so if we’re able to do anything else it’ll be visiting some nearby ones, plus garden centre displays etc.

Fiddledeedeeee · 30/09/2022 07:09

Due DC2 in mid December, not November!

Wow @Fiddledeedeeee that is very brave of you to plan all that. I am due DC2 on the 27th December (but hoping baby will be born before as I am having a caesarean) and I have planned nothing.

Last year we did breakfast with Santa and they loved it so we will book that nearer the time. I am waiting to plan more when I have a section date.

lollipoprainbow · 30/09/2022 07:53

@DenholmElliot1 😂😂

FuriousFurious · 30/09/2022 08:06

We'll do local panto and ice skating.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 30/09/2022 08:59

We've got panto, stockeld park (no santa just day out), safari zoo (seeing santa) and disney in ice booked for before Xmas and a different panto booked for 27th December.

Both pantos were heavily discounted or wouldn't have done them and Disney in ice is usually October but has moved to December. Also have multiple Birthday between 27th November and 1st January so wish me luck 😬

Bobbins2022 · 30/09/2022 09:29

NT light trail (which was free because last year was a washout) and Chester zoo lanterns booked so far.

I need to book a santa visit when they go on sale

womaninatightspot · 30/09/2022 09:34

Just the panto like a pp my kids break up on the 23rd and then not back till the 9th. It'd make much more sense to finish earlier/ then go back earlier. Everything is always depressing in January cold , grey and wet, nothing fun is open.

GiltEdges · 30/09/2022 09:38

We’re going to Lapland in December, but that’s the only thing we’ve booked this year. Last year we tried to cram in lots of different activities with DS and he found it all a bit overwhelming, so we’ll try to do more home-based activities this year (crafts, baking, walks, etc).

MintJulia · 30/09/2022 09:41

Mostly free such as Carol concert, Xmas street Fayre, Christmas drinks party with teen side party, Xmas parkrun etc

We go out to dinner with friends in the week before Xmas but that's all.

FrancescaContini · 30/09/2022 09:46

DenholmElliot1 · 28/09/2022 10:26

We're cutting right back this Xmas so it's just carols at the royal Albert hall, Christmas at Kew, 5 nights in Lapland, skating at Somerset house, winter wonderland at Hyde park, Xmas wreath making, breakfast with Santa and the panto at Birmingham hippodrome.

😂

Angelicapickles1 · 30/09/2022 09:54

Cut back this year so just doing local light trail and a santa grotto where you just pay for the children in a time slot.

I usually get free tickets to the panto through work so will take the 4 year old if it happens this year.

Last year we did a polar express train thing buy I priced it up this year and was looking at 120 which I can't justify.

LivingForPinkGin · 30/09/2022 10:47

So far we are going to Gulliver's world with family, a local farm for their Farmer Christmas day with friends and their children, and breakfast with Santa in our local pub.

I think I will try and book ice skating for a day in between Christmas and new year. I think that will be enough as DS is only 6.

Justwanttobebythesea · 30/09/2022 11:31

We're doing panto, it's just youngest child and I as one child goes with school and the other is too old now. DH doesn't want to go this year (not sure he ever did)

Carols at the RAH for all of us and an adults only Christmas dinner night out. I'm usually tempted by a few extra things the nearer it gets to Christmas but this year with the cost of everything I'm staying strong and sticking to less. Plus with the school Christmas stuff going on and a work do it all gets too much and I end up frazzled and run down - not fun!

Stockeld park here also - ski, skate, play hive adds up to £££

Also panto on New Year's Day.

Not going to do anything else, by the time we have events from school & clubs that will be plenty
