Oodies- worth the hype?

We are a family of 6 so it's a hefty outlay, but am thinking of getting oodies for Christmas.

For those who have them, how do you rate them?

To prevent drip feeding, we are not in UK. Have been looking at other brands on Amazon.de but it's a perfect example of why I am not a fan of internet shopping ...

Do you mean the branded ones?
We have cheapo ones, very warm and even my old Dad wears it 😁

freesolo · 24/09/2022 10:55

My 3 children have an oodie and they live in them over the winter months, they had them as Christmas presents a few years ago. I borrow my daughters when I'm working from home in the winter and they are incredibly warm. Not tried any other brand so not sure how they compare to others.

Abraxan · 24/09/2022 10:58

I've just ordered an Oodie as had a discount. Not arrived yet but can update when here.
Dd has a different brand one which is really warm. She wears it all the time, especially as her new student house is cold and they're worried about the energy bills.

We are in Germany, I saw some nice looking ones in Primark the other day. €22 so cheaper than an official one although I thought expensive compared to a normal Primark dressing gown.

erikbloodaxe · 24/09/2022 10:59

I bought 4 of them for gifts and I was so impressed I bought one for myself. Bought a knock from Amazon too and it is exactly that, a cheap imitation. It doesn't even come close.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 24/09/2022 11:03

I mean, they are polyester..
They are cosy but I don't like them. My MIL gave me one for my birthday last year and I wore it a few times, got too hot. I hated the pattern (it was like a kids pattern) and it takes up so much space.
So it's a no from me

outtheshowernow · 24/09/2022 11:03

Yep my daughter loves her primark one and is so warm. Think it was only about 15 pound

hedwigismyowl · 24/09/2022 11:06

They look quite short though. How do they keep your legs warm?

psuedocream3 · 24/09/2022 11:12

I ordered them from 5poundshop for £11.99 each. They are factory seconds/returns but besides a seam that was easily fixed they are fine. We received one Oodie and three Kudd.ly branded ones, much more snuggly than the off branded ones and worth the price in my opinion. Only issue is that you can't choose which brand, and they are currently sold out of the seconds, but worth keeping an eye on the website incase they get them back in.

Yabado · 24/09/2022 11:17

I have 2 original oddies and one cheaper one
can definitely tell the difference in the brands
The original oddie is much warmer and fluffier

the cheaper one £15 is thinner and not as fluffy

Ive also bought a family pack of 6 from original oddie as Christmas presents 😂

My dc loves theirs (real Oodie) but you can’t wash them so if they get half their breakfast down them it’s a pain.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/09/2022 11:19

I got one on Depop and have mixed feelings about it really. It is very, very warm, but it is so bulky that I find it quite awkward to wear unless I am literally just sitting down. (In which case I have a heated throw.) I have a silly patterned one so it’s no use for WFH, but I think if it was plain navy or something that would be okay.

I saw some knock-offs in New Look the other day and they were really thin in comparison, and about the same price I paid second hand.

You can wash them . You just need to put them on a gentle cycle and I line dry them, it says not to tumble dry

JSDLS · 24/09/2022 16:29

I’ve returned mine. I felt really frumpy in it and will be sticking to my MnS fleece thermals instead

CollieWobble22 · 24/09/2022 16:31

I am 5ft 2, but I find my oodie too heavy! I've since bought a cheaper one from M&S and it's more manageable!! 🤣

Imogensmumma · 24/09/2022 16:33

I found the hoodie - real brand way too hot …. My dog commandeered it and it is now her dog bed at the end of the bed

If anyone doesn’t like the heat and runs hot they will hate it

FancyFelix · 24/09/2022 16:37

My kids have the primark rip offs and live in them over winter. Not sure I'd bother with the real thing

properdoughnut · 24/09/2022 16:39

I wouldn't bother with the real ones unless you live somewhere really really cold. The other brand ones do the job for us.

properdoughnut · 24/09/2022 16:39

Oh and don't cook in them..too much of.a.fire.risk

Lemoncurd · 24/09/2022 16:40

Son just got a official one and was a bit disappointed, apparently the quality was no longer as good as one a friend got a year or two ago.
He was set on getting a branded one as he thought they were much better but afterwards said he would have got a Primark one or similar rather than spending so much, had he known.

easylikeasundaymorning · 24/09/2022 16:42

The real thing is amazing to be honest. Dc had Amazon own which were fine but didn't even compare to the Oodie.

In august they had about £30/£35 pounds of loads of styles with it being summer. You could always buy a cheapy model for now around £15 and buy the oodie when reduced next summer. You'll still save money overall and then you'll have a spare handy for when the proper oodie is in the wash or to take places like sleepovers/camps so you can avoid losing the proper one!

BeyondMyWits · 24/09/2022 16:42

They are very hot, very heavy and very polyestery ... and a pain in the arse to wash in a standard washing machine - they absorb so much water and unbalance the machine on spin. So they don't get washed often and look and smell a bit grubby after a while.

Not a fan, but the teens love them.

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/09/2022 16:46

The branded ones are excellent but I got through last winter perfectly well with my £18 Primark one. I bought DD one from Amazon that was about £15 and it was brilliant. So I'd say you don't need the vast outlay of the actual brand.

Afterfire · 24/09/2022 16:49

The real branded ones are completely different to the cheap / generic ones. No comparison. It’s like comparing a 4 tog duvet and a 15 tog one. And you can wash them. Not sure why someone thinks you can’t….
