DD is at school nursery and has a lot of TAs, I bought them all a bottle of Prosecco for end of term but that will be expensive a few times a year.

Ive seen these which I thought were lovely to go with 2 tubs of celebrations to share.

any early years teaching staff around to give me the thumbs up or down? Not necessarily this story but something similar.

Any teachers? Would you appreciate this?

I don’t really get it, aren’t they a kids toy?

I think the tubs of chocolates is enough 😊

BungleandGeorge · 23/09/2022 17:40

How is that a present for the teaching staff? And from Etsy they’re unlikely to be CE marked so I guess they wouldn’t be able to use them at school. I’d stick with just the chocs if I were you, and a nice card.

BeanieTeen · 23/09/2022 17:41

They are lovely, but that’s not a present for the staff is it? That’s for the kids. Can’t go wrong with a tub of celebrations of course.

Tinytortilla · 23/09/2022 17:41

Missed a crucial price of information that last year the staff said “no need for gifts a card was enough but they are always happy to receive teaching supplies”

sorry for drip!

Ah if they've recommended teaching supplies then I'd ask what sort of things they need. As above, the item may not be approved for use by a business.

Ah the ultimate drip feed!

BeanieTeen · 23/09/2022 17:44

Worst drip I’ve ever seen I think.

Hercisback · 23/09/2022 17:44

Glue. Always buy glue.

SummerBluez · 23/09/2022 17:47

Don't like the answers so add to the story 🤣

RIPWalter · 23/09/2022 17:48

I intend to buy a bundle of stationary for DD class as my xmas gift (I gave a substantial gift voucher for an eco kids shop to her playgroup when she left).

The way I look at it is, I am a similarly paid public sector working and I, like most similar workers, don't get 30 gifts twice a year, and as such I have no intention of getting in to the habit of gifting like this.

So any teachers have a list of stationary they would recommend I buy for a Key stage 1 class, that would be handy (will be visiting The Range).

viques · 23/09/2022 17:53

To be honest I don’t think those little wooden things do justice to the VH Caterpillar story! If the school wants story props they would be better getting quality items and putting together story bags which enhance the story and which are strong enough to survive little hands.

I agree with others, glue is the perfect gift, and make it proper glue, those cheepy ones just don’t stick!

Sixteenpastten · 23/09/2022 17:57

I think that would be perfect. I teach nursery and often spend my own money on things like this. Chocolate to have around in the staff room for all to share is always a big treat.

feckoffbrian · 23/09/2022 18:06

As a teacher, supplies tend to mean nice pens, pencils and arts and crafts stuff. I would love to receive the wooden bits, unpainted.

Tinytortilla · 23/09/2022 18:09

I think I’ll stick to pritt sticks, pens, card and foam stickers!

just thought something to keep might be nicer but practical always wins doesn’t it 😀

Things teachers are desperate for:
Glue sticks
nice pencil crayons
laminating pouches

MrsArrDee · 23/09/2022 18:36

Chocolate! Send them a box of Twirls for the staff room and you'll be the most popular parent ever.

MsReid · 23/09/2022 18:39

They’re lovely, I’d like them but I think I’d also add a few sticks of a glue too. We’re desperate for glue!

RIPWalter · 23/09/2022 19:09

Glue it is then!!

SMBC2020 · 23/09/2022 21:01

I like it 😊
I also would like glue sticks, white board pens and outside chalk.

Theimpossiblegirl · 23/09/2022 21:18

The sentiment is lovely but how have we let it get to a point where we buy gluesticks as gifts for teachers. Schools are so underfunded it's ridiculous.

FourChimneys · 23/09/2022 21:26

The primary school near me has asked for supplies and has a wish list. Sad that things have come to this.

How have we got to the point where their is a social expectation (not neccesarily from the teachers) that teachers should be receiving 30 gifts twice a year for doing their jobs. Surely a card is enough, as it used to be in the past.

It still is in many schools. I teach in a relatively affluent area and the parents just don't do gifts here. I've never worked in a school where the staff have been on such good terms with the parents (they definitely like us!) they just don't go in for present buying.

LettuceJones · 23/09/2022 21:34

Just get a book for the classroom. Or nothing. Pretty much what they are saying is please don't buy us pink wine or Cadburys Roses.

Stichintime · 23/09/2022 21:38

They don't look suitable for a class to be honest. I'd have a look for something more accessible and durable. What about some washable hand puppets?
