What did you get your DCs for their first Christmas

Looking for inspiration and ideas.

Our DD will be 8 months at Christmas.

Ideally we would like to give her something special she can keep / use for a long time.

Budget fairly flexible as we will just do one big gift and a stocking for her.

What did you gift your DCs for their first Christmas?

Lottie the ladybird rocker. Realistically it was too big for our small lounge so didn’t get used much

One of those walker things with wooden bricks in it

We did this too as he would grow into as he was 7 1\2 months at Christmas. Stood him up at it to take the obligatory 1st Christmas photo and he pushed it across the room🙄 no stopping him after that.....

Am I the on,y Scrooge who got them nothing? They don’t remember it and we saved money. Lols.

stormelf · 27/11/2022 19:33

Dd1 we got a tree decoration, stocking, bottle teats and formula. She was 10 weeks old
Ds was only 1 day old on his first Christmas so we didn't get him anything. Although my mum had ordered his tree decoration in case he did arrive before Christmas
Dd2 was only 2 weeks old first Christmas so she only got a tree decoration

Omgwhatthehell · 27/11/2022 19:54

@Babdoc that has just made me tear up. Oh how lovely!

FionnulaTheCooler · 27/11/2022 20:02

I almost forgot to get anything, she was 2 weeks old and it didn't occur to me until a couple of days before Christmas that I was meant to get her something. In the end I nipped out to mothercare to get a first Christmas babygro and rattle, and a couple of other little outfits which her grandparents "helped" her unwrap on Christmas morning.

Each of mine got a silver tree decoration, something they’ll have forever.

We got my son a rocking horse (although it was a donkey) .. he couldn't use it straight away though. More from 1.5 years onwards. We got my daughter a nice dolls house with wooden furniture.

AdelineLou · 27/11/2022 20:24

Can't really remember what we chose apart from a Christmas Eve book, which we have carried on, a different Christmas themed book every year, left on their pillow for story time ( a ruse to get them to bed) . We have them all in a box, which we get out every year.

His favourite though was a helium balloon we brought home from a Christmas party. We had it tied to the handle on his rock-a-tot seat. He loved watching it sway and turn above him.

We got our daughter a second hand, wooden shape sorter out of Oxfam for the princely sum of £2.

No idea what we got our son.

Get a wheely bug or other ride on , Little tikes car or similar always hugely popular. If you want something to keep open a savings account.

WeirdPookah · 28/11/2022 09:59

Wheely-Bug! Super hardwearing, my second child has only just grown out of it and it looks none the worst for wear in the slightest after nearly 9 years play.

not much. THey prefer wrapping paper at that age. All the relatives will want to buy stuff. ONly 4 months until their first birthday. Save your money for the future

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 11:00

ds was 6 weeks

Betterversionofme · 28/11/2022 11:23

My first DS was due on January 1st so I bought a teddy bear in case he was early . He was . He was born on December 18th so I’m glad I thought ahead cos couldn’t have run round looking for presents as I was only discharged from hospital on 23rd 😁

Mine where never bothered by wrapping paper at that age.

The youngest had no idea and slept through unwrapping mostly and if anything the 6 month old and 11 month old hated things being wrapped as they cant see what it is and it took them time and frustraition to get into it (we basically do it for them because they can't and by that point they're bored of the whole thing).

Wrapping becomes far more fun for them when they're a bit older in my experiance.

My DC were 10 mths, 6 mths and 10 mths on their first Christmas.

They got a first Christmas tree decoration, a new outfit, blocks, a sippy cup and a book.

Nice and simple.

PiggyInTheLidl · 30/11/2022 06:49

Aged 6 months, A simple chunky wooden xylophone with 4 notes. Absolutely loved it!

Gufo · 30/11/2022 07:12

DD got a small soft rocking horse. Can't remember for DS but he would only have been a couple of weeks old!

pinkksugarmouse · 30/11/2022 18:11

A bib. She was less than 4 weeks old and the first in her generation both sides of the family so I knew we would be inundated with cute clothes, bears, toys…she had 2oz for Christmas dinner and spent most of the time asleep in the arms of adoring aunties. 💕😁

Nothing, save your money

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/11/2022 23:48

I didn’t get anything for dd’s first Christmas- she was 8 weeks old and in hospital over Christmas recovering from heart surgery. She of course got presents from family and friends, and as a total surprise to us was given an enormous teddy plus a giant sack of presents through the hospital - incredible. She of course was bought loads of lovely things for birthdays and Christmas since!

DS was 10 months at his first Christmas so I probably got something but it wouldn’t have been anything big or at all expensive at that age. I think it might have been a wooden car track thing like this one:

Which I found fun to play with myself!

My DD will be 6months at Xmas, we have got her some little bits.

3 x Waterproof bath books from Home bargains 99p each
A floating light up bath whale (she loves her baths)
I've seen a V-tech ball that helps them learn to crawl £15.99 from Smyths
Also a book that sings nursery rhymes

Other than that we've just got her some bits to start Christmas traditions such as a wooden Christmas Eve box, a letter from Santa for her first Christmas and some pjs.
