Looking for inspiration and ideas.

Our DD will be 8 months at Christmas.

Ideally we would like to give her something special she can keep / use for a long time.

Budget fairly flexible as we will just do one big gift and a stocking for her.

What did you gift your DCs for their first Christmas?

Jellycat toy and book combo. The toys are beautiful and will last for years and you can enjoy the book for many bedtime stories to come…

Loveatortie · 24/11/2022 21:29

A huge.bag of.bricks,ds now 27,wont part with them😹

HauntersGonnaHaunt · 24/11/2022 21:32

I have no idea what I bought. 🤔 Clearly a waste of time and money whatever it was.

Jerryyyyyy · 24/11/2022 21:35

DB got my DD a basket full of shredded rainbow coloured tissue paper. It was 100% the best and most enjoyed gift she got that year! She was 8 months at the time

MassiveSalad22 · 24/11/2022 21:39

DC3 will be 8 months old too. So far I’ve only got her 4 books for 50p each from the library 😬😬 have somewhat forgotten about her. Was eyeing up a parachute thing like they use at baby groups but I know from experience it will just take up space and be annoying.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 24/11/2022 21:40

Nothing. She was barely 3 months old and was given so much by others it still took four sittings to get through opening them all. She kept needing to break for naps! 😄

Danikm151 · 24/11/2022 21:41

A sack with his name so he can use it every year
some stacking toys
xmas teddy bear
books…all the books

familyissues12345 · 24/11/2022 21:43

Both were weeks old - DS1 I don't think got anything. When DS2 was born DS1 had just turned 5 and was constantly going on about what presents his baby brother was going to get, so we bought bits for when he was older - didn't want DS1 questioning why Santa had forgotten him Grin

Winter2020 · 24/11/2022 21:45

Along with baby toys £100 of premium bonds.

Phizpop · 24/11/2022 21:52

Ball pit balls in a cardboard box along with a kitchen paper tube wrapped in gold tape. He wasn't actually well the first Christmas so was glad I'd not spent much. Balls are still in circulation 7 years later in various ways!

Youngest got a box of toys from the loft which hadn't come back down yet.

They did get other things from grandparents but plenty of time to spend many pennies!

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 24/11/2022 21:59

China plate and cup set. The toddler sized ones. DS1 had Peter Rabbit. DS2 had Winnie The Pooh.

The plan was that they could always have them. In reality I haven't seen the plates for years. Probably in a box in the attic (we moved house twice in 6 months)
I think DS1s mug is on a shelf in his bedroom. DS2s is used for measuring washing powder Grin

A nice but also very cuddly (Steiff) teddy bear - to be her main teddy, and happily she has ended up loving it and sleeps with him every night. Also a really nice illustrated book of nursery rhymes - both kind of keepsake but also practical presents. Then some small bits and pieces that were more age appropriate books and toys (she was 3 months)

Very similar here! We did a nice hardback nursery rhyme book for 1st Christmas along with a 'my first Christmas' bauble and some bibs for weaning. We got the Steiff soft cuddly teddy bear for the 1st birthday along with a Peter rabbit keepsake money box 😍

A hard backed copy of my favourite childhood book with a message from me to them in the inside cover

Athenen0ctua · 24/11/2022 22:19

A push along walker, he was 7 months. It was at just the right age.

ALittleBitSkeksis · 22/09/2022 11:09

Oh and a beautifully illustrated copy of The Night Before Christmas, which I wrote a special note inside, and we still read it every Christmas Eve.

Same here.

Otherwise not much, some blocks I think

Dd was 3 months old for her 1st Christmas so we didn’t really get anything! We did a stocking, as it was her first Christmas after all , but we didn’t spend a lot - a few books, rattle type toys, a plush teddy with her name on it. She had a tonne of presents from family that we were still opening on boxing day!

Babdoc · 24/11/2022 22:44

DD was just over 24 hours old, and in intensive care, for her first Christmas. We didn’t get her home until New Year’s Eve.
She wasn’t initially expected to survive, having bled into her brain during delivery, and was paralysed and convulsing.
However, Santa Claus must have visited the neonatal unit, as we found a little stocking and rattle left on her incubator when we visited on Christmas Day. The best present was that she was off the ventilator and breathing by the time we got there.

DD was 5 months. The only things I remember are the TrippTrapp high chair she used until she was 9 and a set of stacking blocks. I know that there were two more gifts but can't remember what. She had more fun with the wrapping paper.

The grandparents gave a book with good night stories and a book with the proper Grimm's fairy tales.

FearofQueefing · 25/11/2022 07:49

An Upsy Daisy doll - which was adored and carried for years...

A jumperoo

maybe my kids arent very bright but mine would have just eaten it lol.

MassiveSalad22 · 25/11/2022 11:39

Mine too @mam0918 😄

Have decided I’m getting DD a canopy to go over her cot, which can then go over her bed or in a corner of her room to make a play den thing. Her room needs cosying up!

Inasec24 · 25/11/2022 16:44

A Teddy with the year on the foot. One from Hamleys, one from Disney pasta

EcoCustard · 25/11/2022 17:14

Steiff Bear the cuddly one not the rigid body one. Dc1 was only a few weeks old though at his first Christmas as was Dc2.

thaegumathteth · 25/11/2022 17:25

Ds was 2 days old so he got a Santa suit and a teddy.

Dd was 3 months - I think she got a soft dolly, then a stocking (for ds benefit really) of baby paraphernalia that we use anyways:

thejadefish · 27/11/2022 17:34

Just a small toy, and also (because her birthday is a few days before Christmas and despite the fact that it's useless to her for probably 10 years/I wouldn't let her wear it until she's old enough to be trusted to wear it without much risk of breaking) a silver charm bracelet plus one charm, with the idea that I'd be able to add one charm every year.
