What do children use alexas for?

We don't have any alexas, but I imagine my DC (8,6) would love them.

We have prime music. Could they each play music in their own rooms?

What else do similar aged children use them for?

4 is fine!

We had to turn Alexa off because my 3 year old was driving me insane with it. Alexa what time is it? Alexa play wheels on the bus. Alexa play "random word that doesn't relate to a song". Over and over and over again 🤣

How do you use them as intercoms?

You can "Drop in" on an alexa on the same network (or from the app), or make announcements to wvery alexa on your network.

One poster mentioned that they could tell Alexa the shopping list over the week. How does Alexa then give back the accumulated list on shopping day?

If you get the ones with screens (echo show) they can also be used for:

• watching BBC iplayer / Netflix / Disney + etc
• showing family photos (like a digital photo frame)
• sticky notes (like a digital post-it)

DD10 mainly uses hers for music, alarm, timers, and as an intercom. You can set routines on them, which is quite useful (eg turn lights off and play sleep music at 8pm every night).

Turning lights off when you’re already comfy in bed is also a great feature.

It can either read it out to you or text you

It's saved up in the app as a list, or you can ask her to read it to you.

Farts, farts and more farts!

I'm not a child, I'm mid 50s and my dad is in his 80s, after visiting me last week he's showing an interest in getting one.

I have some lights and some plugs so he was interested in being able to turn lights on/off and it is great for solving arguments eg who was the king in WWI.

I think the routines might be useful for children, you could have a nighttime routine that gradually lowers the light and reads a bedtime story.

anotherdayanotherpathlesstravelled · 28/09/2022 07:47

Is it worth getting the kids one (tiger or panda) or just a normal one?

If your Dad has one you can also set it up to be able to use the drop in feature to just automatically speak to him in his house without him needing to pick up or anything. That can be incredibly useful with elderly parents in emergency situations.

My daughters all love it. The older ones play games like ‘guess the song’. The 2 year old asks it to play animal sounds and Spice Girls songs 🤣

Yes I have been thinking that. There is also a thing you can do if there is an emergency.

I really hope he does get one, or let me get him one, the first time he visited he wouldn't use it but I think he realized it does more than just turn the lights different colours.

I just have to stop him turning the bathroom light off (I have a light bulb with a motion detector).

My three all have an echo dot. They use them to intercom, play music, ask questions eg about school work, when latest Fortnite updates are coming out, listening to to audiobooks, Alexa tell me a story.... and to play fart noises 😂

Mine all have the parental control on linked to my Amazon account, so they can't listen to anything inappropriate and we have the call function disabled (kids are 6,9 and 10).
