Christmas

Presents for a 7YO girl who doesn't like toys that much?

I have based much of my Christmas ideas for DD who has just turned 7 around toys I think my DD would like, or around toys I think I would have liked at that age, but her birthday just gone has exposed the fact that she is not really into toys that much anymore Sad

Things she does like doing:

  • Crafts and drawing. She's creative and she doesn't have much above what a typical house with younger children would have (pens, pencils, paper, colour paper, etc) and our craft supply has run low so would love some recommendations in this area
  • Making dens and cosy spaces, though she already has a teepee. She has a mid sleeper bed and I want to make the space underneath for her a cosy den so any suggestions for that would be helpful
  • She likes food and making food
  • She's interested in drinks so am trying to find ideas along the lines of a more grown up tea set or something? Was looking at bubble tea sets but worried the caffeine would not be appropriate
  • Games but she has a tablet and we already own several gaming devices including a Switch and Playstation. Perhaps gaming related gifts though?
  • She likes the idea of being pampered but does not actually enjoy the sensation of face masks. Would a little hamper with some sparkly bath bombs etc from Lush be too grown up? She is my oldest so it's hard to judge whether that would be considered great or boring!
  • She's interested in writing but is only just started year 2 so is not a confident writer. Perhaps some kind of story designing kit if there is such a thing? She already has story dice and loves these.

My DD is a year younger but really loves her Crayola tracing pad - I think it would definitely work for a slightly older child too. Spirograph too - I reckon 7 is the right sort of age for the original version.

All kids seem to love bath bombs so I think your hamper idea is lovely.

What about things for her room? A new duvet set or blanket? Bedside light or wall stickers? Fairy lights for her bed? A bean bag? Good luck!

Story Cubes are cheap and fun

LuftBalloons · 15/09/2022 20:16

I wasn't really interested in toys: I liked books and things to DO.

Go to Poundland and buy up big on craft stuff, paints, different colours & weights of paper ad so on.

Or get her a decent box of water colour paint and a big thick sketch book with thick art paper.

Do not get her colouring in sort of stuff, or paint by numbers, but she might like a book on "How To ..." I had one at her age on how to draw horses & another on how to draw fashion models.

None of this need be expensive.

Many moons ago as a little I had a copy of Twinkle comic. Many the Little Nurse was given a medical box of all sorts of bits and bobs to help mend toys. I'm almost 49 and it's stuck with me all this time.
If you DD likes crafting could you get her a tool box type of carrier that you can fill with crafty stuff? Pom pom rings and stuff?
Aida and embroidery threads?
Fabric paint or pens?OR OR if you can still get it puffa paint. You paint the pattern on a t-shirt,then iron it. It goes all puffy.
Water beads are good too.

ladymalfoy45 · 15/09/2022 20:49

Recipe book for mug cakes.

ladymalfoy45 · 15/09/2022 20:51

Galt do a lovely box with things you stitch and stuff. The patters are printed on the fabric and you cut, stitch and stuff. My DD loved that kit.

*Ru comfy squarbie bean bag has been a huge hit with our granddaughter, it fits nicely under her cabin bed den.
*One of those space projector light things for her room, we were recommended a dragon egg shape one on here last year and it's been a huge hit
*Magic adventures globe or the New telescope, both have bbc content built into them.
*Scentos pens, or scentos jewelry kit
*Anything lego friends
*fleece duvet set (we've just bought a rainbow tie die set from dunelm, very warm and soft)

  • dunelm oodie dupe and matching hot water bottle or microwave warmie. They've got loads of designs, cockapoo, koala, rainbow etc. We picked up the cokapoo oodie and warmie set and again so so soft.
*slime kit, the original slime kit sets from amazon are all under £20 and have quite a lot in them and make decent slime
*kids printable camera, one that prints on thermal paper which is cheap to buy refits for. Amazon have loads and they're are a couple on smyths, vtech printcam and another one that's just come out and looks a bit more grown up but I can't remember the brand. Would go nice with a scrap book set with washy tape etc.
Mrsfussypants1 · 15/09/2022 21:35

Just to add
*smart watch
*kids kindle
*Purse with gift cards in (just make sure your certain the shop isn't going to go into administration. Things like cinema voucher (ideally not cineworld), the works or craft shop

Sounds identical to my dd. We are going with a scrap book set, a smart watch, Lego, fake oodie and uno.

LittleLangdale · 16/09/2022 13:13

I've just been to B&M and they've got loads of good bath gift sets for that age group. Ones that look like sweets etc.

They also had slushie machines, popcorn makers, churros makers and doughnut makers.

The Entertainer always has craft sets, jewellery sets etc reduced.

Dreamwhisper · 16/09/2022 13:27

I love this board, these are all such lovely ideas thank you!

My list is finally starting to take shape in a way I'm happy with so far I have:

3 x different Kawaii How to Draw books - she will love these!
A milkshake/hot chocolate gift kit from Etsy or similar
A cute safe from Smiggle
A cool lamp from Smiggle for her bedroom
A little rainbow alarm clock for her room
A fox bean bag and fairy lights again for her room, specifically her den
A Starbucks gift card for her stocking (she loves the frappucino things!)
Roal Dahl themed Story Cubes
If it comes back into stock - a Turning Red fleece blanket in panda bag
All About Japan book
Non fiction book
Smiggle Chatterbox activity book
Fairy Garden set
A Quality art set

I won't get her all of these I will cost it up and see what I can get and I'll dish out a couple of items to her GM!

I'm going to throw a basic digital camera on to the list.
My DD got one when she was 7, it started off a decade of scrapbooking, crafting and making art and fits well with all the other things your DD likes.
