I always struggle with this and find dd so easy in comparison. Neither are keen to stop getting stockings just yet.

He'll be 15 this year, any ideas appreciated.

flint thing for lighting fires

I had to nervously laugh at that.

I am going to get mine a jigsaw. I never thought I would see the day, but when we were on holiday recently my 2 boys got out a massive jigsaw and quietly went at it every night. Didn't miss the Xbox once.

So many suggestions for shower gel! Shower gel isn’t a good gift!

I blame shops for presenting them in “gift sets” but come on.

Neither is toothpaste! Especially if your mum usually buys it anyway 😅

justasking111 · 06/09/2022 12:34

I go on eBay and find second hand complete sets of adult Lego they love it

BlueChampagne · 06/09/2022 12:39

Shower gel is fine in a stocking. Especially if they have to use solid soap the rest of the year. I would draw the line at toothpaste though.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/09/2022 17:06

I don’t understand the problem with shower gel as a stocking filler? I’m assuming it would be a ‘nicer than the norm’ shower gel and one he doesn’t have to share! I always include it for my DS. I bought him a Superdry one last year and it was bloody lovely. He always smelt amazing afterwards! Toothpaste is definitely not a gift.

Looking for ideas too! DS will be 14 at Christmas. I also have DDs aged 10 and 4 and I struggle with the fact that their stocking are much more ‘fun’ than DS’s! I don’t know whether that’s a problem or not but I always try to add a couple of fun things for him but more often than they end up in a drawer collecting dust! But if I go more along the ‘stuff he’ll use’ route, I end up spending too much!

Anyway, ideas so far…
Toiletries
Highlighters or funky pens
Jolly ranchers
PS4 voucher
Small aftershave
Sodastream flavouring
cactus or Venus flytrap
Looking for one of those small cross-body bags to keep his phone and wallet in but not really finding one he’d like for stocking budget!

He loves Stranger Things so maybe some kind of mech but not sure what. He’s not into figures or the clothing really. I’m thinking maybe a poster or thinking cap??

A surprise hit last year…he loves history and I picked up a replica spear head from and English Heritage place which he really loved and has on display. I’m wondering if I could get him another kind of historic artefact. Ideas would be welcomed!

I bought a Roman coin from eBay for a few pounds for dp's cracker last year. Obviously unresearched, but genuine.

Portable phone charger
Chocolate/snacks like protein bars
Bakery or cinema vouchers
Calendar with days of his favorite team games highlighted (check out Shutterfly for that or there is a program for making picture calendars on your own
Funny socks
Funny tshirt
Nice wallet or belt

pipwoes · 08/09/2022 11:22

Following and must start buying

MrsChristmashohoho · 08/09/2022 11:26

B&M had some nice foodie sets in today - the obligatory long box of Pringles or Oreos but they also had some smore kits in (best before date was November so I've done a mental reminder to check when I go again) They were £3.99.

I'm also making my DS a voucher for his provisional licence fee.

Thelifeofawife · 19/09/2022 23:53

Picked up some great tips here. My favourite - batteries! I don’t know how I never thought of this before, perfect for a teenage boy!
Also like the idea of Greggs vouchers.

Anything I would have suggested has been covered. Although last year I did get a random pack of quote cards for a TV show he likes, for something different.

I am under strict instructions not to buy “random stuff that’s just a waste of money” this year, DS doesn’t feel it’s needed and has openly said he doesn’t mind a smaller pile of select things which he wants/needs. The stocking list I have created from your ideas will definitely get used though!

LovingTheseAutumnSnippets · 20/09/2022 17:31

Mine like to make cookies and muffins and then eat them immediately before anyone else can get a look in, so I am planning on buying the those milk bottles with all the ingredients in them like this

CoffeeChocolateWine · 20/09/2022 17:54

Those cookie mix bottles look really fun! I often put the mug cake mix in stocking which go down well so this would be a nice change.

A few more ideas...
Carabiners
Pop-a-cobs went down well last year
Thermal socks (for wellies)
Thunk cards
Nice pen/revolving pencil
Magnetic sculpture desk toy

MindfulMummy · 27/09/2022 14:27

I've not read the whole thread but you can make your own lego figures in store or online now.....l'm thinking about making on of each member of my family to put in the Chridtmas crackers or baubles l am trying to make this year.... might make an unusual stocking filler.... other ideas (apologies if already mentioned as short on time)...

Scratch card
Starbucks/cinema voucher
Chopsticks
Playing cards
Novelty straw
Keyring tailored to current interests
Hot choc sachet & mini marshmallows
Popcorn kernals for popping
Funky post it notes
Face scrub (often Bulldog is on offer and can be good for teen skin)
Funky socks
Themed planner pad (l picked up a Stranger Things Mon-Sun To do planner in a charity shop this week, brand new for £1.50).....

scissorsandsellotape · 27/09/2022 14:31

Oh I need inspiration

Maray1967 · 28/09/2022 11:30

Mine tends to get chocolate (lots), nice socks ( he likes them) and odd bits and bibs that are useful. Best one from last year bizarrely is a coaster in a theme he likes - he has it on his desk and uses it.

BasiliskStare · 28/09/2022 12:01

@Thelifeofawife - honestly I have found batteries go down well so they can squirrel them away for devices etc and just not hopelessly trail round the house saying "Mum" have we got any (insert no. of As here ) batteries when they have run out. Not exciting but come the day they run out of eg their x box controller batteries , they will thank you .

FairlyIncognito · 28/09/2022 12:24

I find this so hard every year to balance stuff not being clutter but still having that element of fun. I disagree shower gel is boring as our DS loves it if a nice one- eg I get Cowshed £10 from TK Maxx.

We had a hit with personalised coke cans last year - £5 off if anyone wants this link www.yourcoca-cola.co.uk/referrals.list?applyCode=IONA-R2
I might do it again but with something else.

I’ve already bought our two Anker earphones but find them good quality and not ridiculous prices, especially as wait until they are on offer!

maz82 · 28/09/2022 12:39

Some great ideas here!

BlueChampagne · 28/09/2022 13:39

How about a charger and some rechargeable batteries, rather than disposable?

LayTheTableMabel · 29/09/2022 09:19

Most things we get for our 16yo in Jan & 14yo boys have been mentioned apart from:

WD40
Bike waterproòf seat cover
Glass bottle of coke
Pop tarts
