I love Christmas and have made a start already....but can't help wondering how much more expensive it will be this year, with the cost of living the way it is. Is anyone else slightly worried?

Ours was the same, with teenagers being particularly neglected with donations.

I'm thinking of going to TKMaxx or similar and buying stuff like fake eyelashes, make up brush sets and earphones etc so I can have a stash to donate.

I’m worried this year. We normally host for everyone over Christmas as we’ve got the bigger house. My food bill is normally massive due to sheer number of guests but I don’t mind as I love cooking for everyone. Goodness knows what it will be this year!

Its also DDs birthday straight after Christmas she will be in reception so she will want a class party as well.

I know I've already posted because I'm now double worried. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't have the budget I usually did due to my own circumstances but with the news constantly going the way it is about cost of living I'm now worried that even the money I have is going to go on essentials rather than Christmas.

I don't think it should be too drastic but I'll be making a back up list of cheap alternatives I've sourced in the even I have to dramatically cut down my budget for the DC.

My kids birthday is right after xmas too but theres always a gap for the party because no one comes to ones between xmas and school going back so we hold it on the first weekend of school returning so usually 2 weeks between xmas and birthday party.

I know this thread is a bit old now but I am wondering how people on here are managing.
DD will be 20 soon and is my only. It was trickier because her birthday is 29th of November but thankfully she has never had an interest in consoles, branded clothes etc. Her tastes were probably a bit niche for a pre-teen and teen but thankfully didn’t cost a fortune.
For parents with young children just remember a couple of well chosen gifts are fine. The planet could really do without this weird thing of padding out to make big piles.
Older kids can be reasoned with as they have an understanding of money.
Avoid the massive Christmas food shop with two trolleys because the shops are shut for a day. Most of what you see is binned. They might as well have burned the money and helped the planet.

The commercial push is vile. It’s a virus that spreads everywhere. Vaccinate yourself by recognising it in all its forms.

I hope everyone is managing and not worrying too much about one bloody day. I doubt the Pagans celebrating Yule were panic buying goats and wheat.

Yes I'm very worried. I've cut down on who we buy for and told my three children (all teens) that they can each have:

  1. One outfit
  2. A fragrance
  3. trainers
  4. Stocking
  5. Chocolate

And that's about it x

@Shiningstarr that sounds like a really good batch of presents. I remember every single one of my Christmas outfits!

I'm helping a relative to shop, they're on a fixed budget, but still wish to impress - it's going to be difficult
