Christmas Table Favours?

Hi, This year for the first time I'm going to do table favours (Even though we haven't got a table! Grin It's trays on laps.) I have so far bought the boxes, and
this sample from Avon. It gets super hot in here when the dinner is being cooked so I thought they might help to cool us down. (Don't tell my male guests though that they are meant for menopausal women! lol)
I'm going to put some chocolate in there too but have run out of ideas of what else to put in them. Do you know what usually goes in a favours box/ Any other ideas?

We just have crackers at the table

Zombie thread

Surely it doesn't matter if it's an old thread if still relevant?

If OP wants to do table favours, then she does table favours!
It does not have to be plastic tat.
I had them once, but it was chocolate mints - probably not good in a hot climate. Perhaps sugared almonds, or something prettier than mint imperials.
Small soaps?
Perhaps crackers are not a thing where OP lives?
There are lots of small bits and bobs on the stocking thread.

Years ago I bought some tiny gift boxes that were used each Christmas , filled with a few chocolates of each persons choice .
No waste , no tat .

I don;t like crackers they are the biggest waste of money , very disappointing and ££ to boot .

Totally agree about the crackers , always disappointing despite the price . I think crackers are for tradition / sentimental value rather than the quality of the contents .
We do table favours , little gold boxes filled with a few nice chocolate, foil wrapped coins , scratch cards all done up with little ribbon and persons name card . They look really pretty and extra special .

Christmassy wine glass charms are a good addition, they can be reused each year
Also Ferrero Rocher /Lindt balls.

If you want to keep some of the tradition of crackers without the waste, you can buy hats off eBay and find dreadful cracker jokes on Google. As much as we groan, our family loves a cracker joke!

My friend adds in a Christmas quiz that can be done in between courses

My SIL now gets the favours as I cook the Christmas Dinner (which my family
traditionally has on Christmas Eve - a Danish custom) one less thing for me to think about

Over the years, we've had socks, bath bombs, chocolates, nice mini soaps, Christmas tree decorations. Bath bombs are my favourite.

I made a version of these last year which went down very well. The thing I usually do is one of the M&S chocolate bars with curling ribbon to tart it up, we all have our favourite one abd I only buy them for the Christmas table so it makes them special. I get fudge for DF, a lemon whippy bar for DM, Turkish for DH and Dd and cappuccino for myself 🤤

then there is no plastic tat left over because everyone usually eats the chocolate after lunch 😂. Maybe next crimbo Santa can clutch a cracker joke (we only buy those in the sales !)

That is so clever, so imaginative! It would also make an excellent present. Thinking if I could manage to put it together I could perhaps sit it in a box to keep it together?
I am stealing this idea.

Stiffy,
Could we copy your sleigh over to some of the other Christmas threads?
Also, how big is Santa, please?

BobbyBiscuits · 08/06/2024 12:33

You could get some customised snow globes made up with photos in. Could be old baby pics, silly pics, pics of celebrities the person likes? I think you can get those for about a fiver each.
But honestly I've never done favours! Always just crackers. It's a lovely idea though. I still would do the snow globes anyway, you could use them as table settings instead of name cards?
Also I love making marzipan fruit. If you've got kids they could help as it's really fun. You can buy a block of marzipan and use food dye and edible paint. So you could put a few of those in each?

Oh it's not my sleigh just a generic piccy off the internet. I just used the lindor santas, the mini packets of haribo chews, a 2 finger kitkat and something else I can't remember. I don't think I have a picture of mine
but please do feel free. I saw the idea on Poncetastic 2023, the home of Mumsnet Christmas excessive "Kirsty Alsopping" https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4904536-the-2023-poncetastic-christmas-thread?page=21
