Christmas Table Favours?

Hi, This year for the first time I'm going to do table favours (Even though we haven't got a table! Grin It's trays on laps.) I have so far bought the boxes, and
this sample from Avon. It gets super hot in here when the dinner is being cooked so I thought they might help to cool us down. (Don't tell my male guests though that they are meant for menopausal women! lol)
I'm going to put some chocolate in there too but have run out of ideas of what else to put in them. Do you know what usually goes in a favours box/ Any other ideas?

cute... I can imagine my lot would get through 1.5ml in seconds though.

SandyWedges · 20/06/2022 15:31

Perfume/aftershave samples. People sell bundles on ebay or you can just go into john lewis or similar nearer Christmas and there will be loads.

Lottery scratch cards
Small travel games
Fortune cookie

DifficultBloodyWoman · 21/06/2022 06:50

Some sort of puzzle or toy to keep people occupied while waiting for food?

OperaStation · 21/06/2022 06:52

Most plastic waste. This is all stuff that will just end up in landfill.

Openmouthinsertfood · 21/06/2022 10:47

Thank for all your replies. :) I thought of a few more yesterday, some of which has been covered here but I also thought of bath bombs, hot chocolate sachet and has already been mentioned, scratch cards.

We just do a small gift for each person, individual to them. Max cost is a fiver. Past examples have been chocolate, mugs, smellies, a gin glass etc. I usually get the kids something to entertain them at the table. A little game or something.

Spanielsarepainless · 23/06/2022 18:22

More tat for landfill.

whoamitojudge · 27/07/2022 20:46

I do scratch cards but then theres only 4 of us. My Mum also puts scratch cards in our Christmas cards too but so far we’ve not won a huge jackpot 😂😂

Scratch cards

I'm sorry to say the same, but please try to keep the plastic one-use stuff to a minimum. I don't really understand the concept of table favours, but maybe some chocolate truffles or something? Just really wince at the idea of lots of those miniature Avon bottle being chucked into the bin on boxing day.

NeverHadANickname · 30/07/2022 19:44

How about something like print (or buy? If they exist) little question cards where the person who has the card in the box gets to ask anyone else at the table the question? Or they themselves have to answer it. Something like what is your most embarrassing moment, or a funny story from your school days. Good conversation starters.

RovenderKitt · 30/07/2022 19:49

We just take a small gift from the stocking to have at the table, rather than buy any extra stuff. Otherwise where does it end?

Viostep · 30/07/2022 21:01

I've never heard of Christmas day table favours before. What about just putting a cracker and maybe some party poppers? Although each getting a scratch card does sound fun!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/07/2022 00:47

I see the favours as something to keep people occupied between courses or while I am in the kitchen. I usually buy little puzzles (and have some that I reuse regularly) like these - Logic/IQ Puzzles

MustardCress · 31/07/2022 01:35

Christmas table favours? Isn’t this exactly what a cracker is for?! You know the hat, the joke and the toy?!

megapint · 31/07/2022 02:07

Crackers!

SageRosemary · 31/07/2022 02:14

Do your family a favour and skip the favours, invest in a table instead!

margegunderson · 31/07/2022 11:20

Agree with the waste element of this. Can't they talk to each other? Play consequences? Help you in the kitchen??

toomuchlaundry · 31/07/2022 11:23

Do charades or similar if need occupying. Do you do crackers as well?

xogossipgirlxo · 02/08/2022 11:33

I thought table favours were wedding thing? I think Christmas crackers will do the job.

Spohn · 02/08/2022 11:41

Will the guests not already be laden with imminent landfill consumer products? Do they need more tat?

Sisisimone · 02/08/2022 15:20

I dont do table favours as such but for a bit of fun I buy everyone a lottery scratch card to go with their crackers and for a bit of retro kitsch everyone also gets a little red fortune telling fish as a homage to our 70s/80s childhood Christmases 😊

alrightfella · 03/08/2022 09:02

I do table presents. So realistically just another stocking present but at the table. I think it makes the table look nice, for adults I generally go for consumables, and for the kids something to do whilst at the table. Everyone gets a scratch card too.

savemeagin · 03/08/2022 19:10

I did Xmas favours a few years ago - I bought a load of the little wind up toys to have races. The DC and DPIL were well entertained throughout the courses whilst we served up. They didn't get binned - my PILs still have theirs out on the side so the DGC can play with them when they go round.
It was silly but fun.
