Biggest hits are hideous make up set and a Bob the Builder straw.
Oh, and a wind up ladybird and a Snow White video.

Are you going to 'regift' them?

7 and 3.
I put them under the sofa as soon as we opened them (which was at about 5:00 pm)
Ah yes,regifting will occur.

A multi pack of Spiderman underpants for a 7 year old anyone (ds is 3)?

My sons pillow case full of opened presents lies sadly in a crumpled heap just where he abandoned it at 7.30 on Christmas morning.

Why did I sweat blood filling the ruddy thing up???!!

moondog · 26/12/2007 22:17

I didn't wrap the pillow case ones either. That saved a lot of grief.

lol ( in horrified fashion) at 17 month old make up kit.

I make a list of who gave what and than everyone personally. Actually, I don't expect my just 7 year old to write thank you notes.

Putting them under the sofa was an experiment.Had they (or if they) ask for something i will get it out.
But they haven't, which confirmsn my belief that this stuff is neither wanted nor needed.

I've put about 10 presents in the regift box too.

My sil (no daughters) gives loads of Bratz and Barbie crap which I can't understand as she is a sensitive and thoughtful perosn and parent.

I don't let birthday guests bring presents. I ask them not to. (I know I sound liek a nutter, but I'm not really. i just refuse to let our home become a repository for crap.)

This regift thing is a revelation to me. DD got the most extraodinary amount of crap given to her for Christmas.

Despite having a amazon wishlist so people didn't waste their money we still ended up with the most bizarre things.

Early Grammar book for a 2 year old anyone

I was worried thast this would happen with dd who is 4 but over the course of yesterday and today the gifts have been given their due attention. Even the relatives seemed to have managed to get her gifts she loved.

moondog · 26/12/2007 23:06

Yes, I know what sil trying to do.
It's just...how many hats or bags or barbies does one person need??

Mind you,you should see what dh has bought me,talking of useless crap.

A huge stinking goatskin jerkin covered in flowery embroidery from Tajikistan where he is working. He is well over 6 foot and it is too big for him.
I die laughing every time I see it.
Bless him, he is shite on the present front.

how ungrateful

moondog · 26/12/2007 23:08

Danae,if she said she minded, I would change stuff, but she doesn't so I don't.
We are pretty well off, so believe me,it's no life of deprivation.

Do you not feel a tiny bit controlling, hiding away their gifts?

My 2 children have C'mas birthdays & when I asked guests this year not to bring gifts, anyone would have thought I asked them to chop off their own heads!! So, next year we're not having a party.. and the IL's can give them money instead of a 4ft bag filled with stuff

moondog · 26/12/2007 23:08

Would you like the jerkin then Noddy?

OP posts:
moondog · 26/12/2007 23:09

Yes, I am controlling as I am in charge. It's called being the adult.

I find it really hard to except how wasteful it all seems really. I hate to think of people spending their money on things that DD just doesn't need or won't be interested in that then just end up being put in the loft or given away to the charity shop. Half of the stuff she got for christmas was way out of her age range, just not appropriate or a duplicate of something she already had. I just really hate to think of people wasting their money.
