Yes they are doing it for a good cause ,it's christmas blah blah blah.

But they just hinder me when i am trying to pack.

If i wanted my bread squashed and my tins dented i would just leave dd2 to pack for me.

I would gladly donate for them to not pack my bags

Rubbish at packing. But I always give them a donation anyway.

EachPeachPearMum · 22/12/2007 22:31

and they never re-use the bags you've brought with you in a vague attempt to be environmentally friendly

and put odd combinations of things together like the milk with the washing up liquid, and the nuts- and usually 3 things per bag.... [grr]

I still give them a pound each time though!

Izzybel · 22/12/2007 22:32

It bugs me in supermarkets, where I live, when they say "are you alright with your packing?" instead of "do you need help with your packing?" So even if you do need help, you end up saying yes by accident.

WendyWeber · 22/12/2007 22:33

Actually, "here's a pound for you not to pack my bags" might work, you know - if delivered with a sweet smile

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 22:33

I hate it too!!! But also always give them money!

I also start taking things off them and adding to bags they think are filled and generally nudging them out of the way

All the supermarkets here in Bermuda have special needs people to pack the shopping. It's great, they're experienced, they know how to pack the shopping sensibly, and it gives them a useful place in the community, where they see lots of people every day and earn a dollar or two from each person, I've grown to really like having it done for me.

HappyMummyOfOne · 22/12/2007 22:37

Last time we had the scouts at our supermarket I didnt spot them on the way in and did my shopping as usual. Cue lots of sniggering from the two scouts on my till when they spotted my condoms

XmastimePelvicfloorsandWine · 22/12/2007 22:37

WendyWeber -I shall remember that for next year

The only person who could help me pack my bags would be Monica from Friends. It HAS to be done in a certain way!

unknownrebelbang · 22/12/2007 22:55

Some of them know how to pack...they've been well-trained .

It is a pita. But honestly, it's a bigger pita for the scouts, and even bigger for their leaders.

Alas, it is quite a big fundraiser.

(apart from the lady who allowed the scouts to pack her three trolleyloads and then walked away, without even a thank you, let alone a donation.)

MulledWino · 22/12/2007 22:56

Just tell them to fuck off. They do!

unknownrebelbang · 22/12/2007 23:34

No thank you works just as well.

handlemecarefully · 22/12/2007 23:43

It is a complete pain in the arse, lol at Mulledwino

seeker · 22/12/2007 23:43

Sorry to be precious about this, but my dd did this for two hours this afternoon. She was so keen and proud to be raising money for charity and "doing people a good turn" at the same time. I'm so glad people were nice to her - she would have been crushed if they had been horrible. All you have to do it say"No thank you, I prefer to pack my own shopping. Here's 50p anyway." Practice, Mulledwino - you might have learned it by heart by next year!

MulledWino · 22/12/2007 23:45

I'm sure you would be unsurprised to learn that I have not actually told a boy scout to "fuck off"! This is Mumsnet you know.. journalistic licence!!!

XmastimePelvicfloorsandWine · 22/12/2007 23:45

lol

Awww Seeker - in RL whilst I inwardly think "Gawd, spare me the boy / girl scout and my squashed bread rolls, I am actually simultaneously thinking - "what nicely brought up young people, how very commendable"...and so I am nice to them. I'm sure that goes for everybody else too

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/12/2007 23:53

Ooh, this happened to me the other day. They asked if I needed help with my packing, I said no thanks but he started packing it anyway. Luckily I'm so anal I sort everything into correct bag order on the conveyor belt so I just had to take the bags off him at the right time to make sure my bananas didn't end up under the spuds. And yes, I paid him £1, even though he looked right through me, little sod.

Mind you, he was probably just mortified at having to handle my super duper maxi pads with wings. haha!

Aitch · 22/12/2007 23:56

i love them, hate them packing my stuff though so i always tell them to take a break and i'll give them a donation. often they don't want to cos they want to be seen to be helpful so i get them to tell me all about their fundraising efforts. they are So Sweet i think, all shiny-faced and clean and willing.

chrissnow · 23/12/2007 00:00

We had 2 today. It was very amusing!! They did an ok job (I'm another anal conveyer belt sorter though!!) They had a little argument "Oi I do fruit and veg. You do tins and packets."
"I know but they haven't got any tins and packets"
"Oh yeah. You do cold stuff then!!"
They were dead sweet!!

seeker · 23/12/2007 05:40

Our lot had strict instructions not to TOUCH anyone's shopping without express permission!

Mind you, their Leader did suggest they had a sign saying "For £1 we'll pack your shopping - for £5 we won't"!

I knew you wouldn't really say fuck off to a Scout - sorry if I was po faced. But I do get sad when children actually do something which goes against the perceived image of them all being selfish bad mannered couch potatoes and they don't get any credit for it.

unknownrebelbang · 23/12/2007 07:36

what seeker said.

smartiejake · 23/12/2007 20:32

I prefer to do my own packing but what bugs me are the cashiers who don't start your packing while you are still trying to unload the trolley at the other end, merrily flinging everything into a heap at the other end. (Somerfield are the worst near me for this.)
