Aldi Turkey - Rotten

ffscovid · 25/12/2021 20:35

Anyone else had a minging turkey from Aldi? Bought on Tuesday, use-by date 26/12. Opened the bag and was hit by a foul stench. Skin was slimy too 🤢.
Looking on Twitter, there are quite a few similar posts - all with the same free-range turkey with the same use-by date, so guess there was a dodgy batch Xmas Sad.

Ah well, my vegetarian lunch was actually ok and was received kindly by my guests.

Well now I know my vegan Wellington will stay fresh forever, I'll keep this years leftovers for Christmas '22.

BashfulClam · 26/12/2021 00:37

My dead corpse was delicious.

RJnomore1 · 26/12/2021 00:39

I do like my corpse well preserved.

@Longingforatikihut

What's the supplier company? Two sisters supply lots of the big stores and are notoriously dodgy. I never buy anything with their logo on.
Is the 2 Sisters logo on all the poultry products that they process for major supermarkets? Bernard Matthews are owned by the same people. Big business... unfortunately.

Better to stick to local butchers or ordering straight from the farm.

Lady089 · 26/12/2021 01:14

That’s the least of your worries. What do you expect from factory farmed supermarket meat that’s been reared in inhumane conditions and fed antibiotics to stop the spread of diseases.
If you want to eat fresh meat, then shop at your local butcher.

beenthereboughtthetshirt · 26/12/2021 02:14

We deliberately avoided turkey when we heard about the 55 cases of bird flu outbreak earlier this month. One of which was in Suffolk - so no thanks.

Our Sainsbury's joint of beef corpse was dead good. Only £10 too.

beenthereboughtthetshirt · 26/12/2021 02:17

p.s our local butcher closed recently after many decades.

I think the turkey cull was the thing that clinched the pre-Christmas closure.

So we had to use a supermarket.

@AdultCat

Same issues every Christmas... Seriously, what do people expect when they buy a dead corpse to eat?! 🤦🏼‍♀️Flesh decomposes 🤮
Flesh does not decompose if frozen.

It was a free range one and as explained up-thread, sadly our local butchers is no more. I thought I'd give Aldi a try as they have had good reviews in the past.

Bird flu isn't transmissible to humans (yet) and certainly not from eating cooked meat Confused

Corpses are usually dead actually 🙄

Hang on tuesday was 5 days ago. What do you expa”etc? and actually if you expect it ‘fresh’ or days later there’s some weird shit involved. Buy frozen it close to the actual date of eating
It was 4 days from Tues - Sat. And if the date says 26/12, I expect it to still be fresh on the morning of 25/12.

Cheap meat does not generally equate to ethical and humane farming.

alongwayhome · 26/12/2021 07:37

This happened last year as well.

IKR. No such issues with my vegan Xmas dinner and was delicious. 😜

The turkeys got their revenge. 😂

Yes 40 minute nut roast here, no prep, no fuss and delicious

@Benjispruce5

Bought a fresh free range bronze turkey from Aldi on Monday. Date was 26/12 I think. Cost £25. Was the best turkey I’ve had. Everyone commented on how nice it was.
I'm not sure bragging about how nice yours was, is particularly helpful Hmm
GrannytoaUnicorn · 26/12/2021 08:01

As appose to a live corpse?
Rekorderlig88 · 26/12/2021 08:06

Our M and S frozen huge turkey breast was off.
Defrosted for 18 hrs in the fridge opened and left to air. Rotten and green and the skin was covered in what looked like blackheads....
Had bought a farm foods frozen crown... As expected more guests and honestly the best turkey we've ever had

IKissedSantaClaus · 26/12/2021 08:07

Our Aldi turkey was really good. Also the free range one. That's a shame you got a dud one! I'd be gutted at that as DH only agrees to turkey once a year and I love it.

Petshopboyes · 26/12/2021 08:14

I’ve stopped buying meat from Aldi, it always goes off really quickly

Hang on yourself Hmm what a ridiculous comment. If you buy something dated 26/12 of course you should be able to eat it on 25/12.

Starcaller · 26/12/2021 08:21

I've quite often found that supermarket white meat has gone off by its supposed date Sad A few times I've opened it the day before it's due to go out and it stinks, so now if we ever buy chicken etc from supermarket I make sure we use it early. What a royal pain though, the one day of the year you really don't want that!

We got from local butcher this year and it was dated 28th and was lovely.

rwalker · 26/12/2021 08:25

Always buy frozen anything like this need to be refrigerated .
People buy fresh one wheel it about a hot supermarket . Then put it in hot car . How do people manage to keep a turkey in the fridge when they get home .Suspect most of theses left out .
I think there will be a vast majority of theses been stored incorrectly thats the problem .

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/12/2021 08:29

Yes, I also remember there was a rancid Aldi turkey thread last year.

I bought a frozen turkey crown this year.
