I only have myself to blame but help me salvage this Sad

Dd is 5 and very very excited for christmas

We dont have alot of money this year I managed to get 2 playsets of a type of toy she likes on marketplace brand new in boxes and my plan was build them up and they would be sitting out 'from santa'

Picked them up this week been very busy and hid them in a cupboard in a room she never goes in...well somehow curiousity overcame her and shes found them!!!

Santa should have been making them ib his workhouse!!!

How do i resolve.... buy new gifts from santa and those ones she found are from me!?

My own fault and I probably feel disproportionatly sad about this Sad at least she is getting nice gifts but have i spoilt the magic...(yes...)

Dont know what i am looking for help me feel better!!!!

Santa always brought my DC's all gifts - but from their written list of three things and 'some surprises'.

We phased it out as they got older, when large gifts came from me and other things from Santa.

Not an issue that the message changed as they grew up.

Thadhiya · 19/12/2021 14:41

You do nothing. You just hustle them away and get on with life.

She's 5. Maybe she'll figure it out, maybe she won't, but it doesn't matter. Kids just believe what they want to believe.

Don't make a big deal of it and she won't either.

kimothyroll · 19/12/2021 17:24

Santa only brings the stocking in our house.
My ex has agreed on the same thing.
My son is spoilt cause he gets 2 stockings but it means that we don't have to communicate about what presents are form Santa etc.

cherish123 · 19/12/2021 17:24

Could you say the big (under tree presents) are from you and the stocking ones are from Santa?

It would take th pressure off you a bit this year and in future years.

Purplecatlover · 19/12/2021 17:26

Big/expensive/main presents come from family and friends in our houses. Santa brings small presents that’s how he can carry enough for every child in the world without having to go home to refil his sack lots of times. (Also means there’s no “Santa bought me a games console or designer trainers or whatever when they’re talking to kids who’s parents can’t afford expensive things). Give her some chocolate and a game or something from Santa, the play sets from you. At 5 she’ll be questioning why no presents from you if everything is from Santa anyway.

Heatheroo · 19/12/2021 17:31

My son never thought Santa made or paid for presents, rather that parents and relatives bought them and sent them to santa and santa delivered them so all children would get their presents at the same time. Just tell her santa doesn't deliver presents that have been found, but if she's extra good, he might make an exception in her case.

Mrtumblemustdie · 19/12/2021 17:32

A lot of the elves have come down with the new variant, so Santa has had to deliver a bit of stuff early to get ahead. Don't worry, he's coming back with all of the stockings for the children etc. I've had to say that Santa can't deliver us a puppy this year because of covid restrictions on the transportation of live animals!

sarahangel778 · 19/12/2021 17:33

My mum and dad used to say that they sent the presents to Santa’s workshop and only Santa could decide if we could have them or not. She’s 4 - she’s not going to understand how utterly illogical that is. I didn’t until I was around 10 😂

Slayduggee · 19/12/2021 17:35

Santa delivered the gifts early because of covid because he definitely wanted you DD to have them and he would have been sad if he was unable to deliver them?

Mummabear89 · 19/12/2021 17:36

This happened with my older children years ago and I said that santa is understaffed because lots of his elves are poorly with colds this year so mummy was helping santa by getting some presents ready for him. As far as I can tell it worked because my 10 year old still believes in santa. We also have a small gift which is labelled as from santa every year too

Sturch16 · 19/12/2021 17:43

I’ve also had this happen today my kid tryna style it out by saying it’s what she asked for n she hasn’t been in the room n I just said to her dad gotta send these presents off to Santa tomorrow so he can deliver them hoping she brought it 🤣🤣🤣

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 19/12/2021 17:48

Honestly this happened to me when I was about that age. I didn’t even give it much thought as it’s peak ‘believing’ age- only really occurred to me about 10 years later. I have no recollection of what mum said either so I obviously bought it!

KarenTheGammonRemoaner · 19/12/2021 17:49

Time to fess up and bring your child into the real world? Mummy and daddy work hard and all this time we've done that to give you these presents. That's a good thing.

NameChangeCity123 · 19/12/2021 17:50

Santa sent them early to make sure she got them in time as she's been such a good girl?

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 19/12/2021 17:53

Mine never get actual presents from Santa, just all the small bits in the stocking. Maybe just flip it all round. At five she may not pay much attention to the flip.

Mrsmch123 · 19/12/2021 17:57

@KarenTheGammonRemoaner is there really any need to tell the kid Santa isn't real. She's 5 for goodness sake🙈

Sodullincomparison · 19/12/2021 17:58

We have had a few occasions for birthdays or deliveries and we just say they are for other children. Our daughter believes us although she did say she thinks there are at least ten Father Christmas around. Such a cynical three year old!

Benjispruce5 · 19/12/2021 17:58

She’s 5, style it out! You’ll think of something.

KarenTheGammonRemoaner · 19/12/2021 18:01

Yes, it's opportunity. Why not?

Mrsmch123 · 19/12/2021 18:02

@KarenTheGammonRemoaner why would you...again she's 5. What about the magic of Christmas and Santa?

FortniteBoysMum · 19/12/2021 18:02

Santa is quarantine the gifts in mummy's cupboard so she doesn't catch covid if the elves get it before Christmas.

CPL593H · 19/12/2021 18:03

"We [+assorted relatives] buy and Santa delivers" was certainly our tradition nearly 60 years ago. We never questioned the rationale which admittedly, does seem a bit inefficient Grin

I would go with the delivered early option. Also, find better hiding places, she was on the hunt.

CPL593H · 19/12/2021 18:05

Meant to say, we didn't question it because we just wanted our presents. She'll be fine.

aliceca · 19/12/2021 18:07

This happened to me as a child. My mum replaces it with a toy I already had, took me back and said I had made a mistake, there wasn't a new toy there after all.

juleswatford · 19/12/2021 18:10

Oh this thread made me laugh....Blame it on covid! Actually you at the moment can blame anything on Covid.
