Any families having to now isolate over Christmas?

I am positive and finish isolation on 23rd, but we have two small children who haven’t had it yet, neither has my partner, so we have cancelled visiting both our families. I’m a bit disappointed and worried kids will be bored, but also quite excited to not have to stress about going anywhere, and also watching Eastenders live in peace! Anyone else in the same boat?

Yes us:( both teachers… should have knownSad

I’m due out of isolation on the 21st. Been isolating away from dh, dd and ds but dh tested positive today due out 24th. Daughter has already had it and we didn’t catch it- but son could get it still. Great.Angry

All pretty awful. One adult family member needle phobic so wont / cant have vaccine. If they get it over Christmas I will spend the whole time worried sick!

Mrsmch123 · 15/12/2021 21:37

I started my isolation last year on the 23rd. My husband never caught it despite taking zero precautions to avoid it. I hated that I had no sense of taste on Christmas Day😫

Tiddlywinkly · 15/12/2021 21:55

Ds has it. Due out of self isolation Xmas Day. That would work as we were due to wake up in our house and go to local relatives on Xmas day. DH, DD and I are all negative for now, but DD has a cough...

BeeandG · 15/12/2021 21:58

We've got dh out of isolation on 19th. Dd1 and I out on 24th. Dd2 still testing negative but we'll see.

Scotlass · 15/12/2021 21:59

DD symptomatic and has had a positive LFT today - PCR booked for all 4 of us tomorrow. She was feeling tired out of sorts Monday but LFT was negative.

Trying to figure out is our 10 days from Monday so out on 23rd?

DH, DS and I all negative LFTs and both DS and I had covid 3 months ago plus DH and I both had booster (me 2 months ago DH 2 weeks ago)
Really hoping we can escape it and be out of isolation on 23rd.
We are hosting this Xmas my parents, Aunt and Uncle and DSis is coming- she's not been home for 2yrs and us paranoid about covid. Worried now whether it will be safe for them but least if we know DD was positive now less risky than hosting and her brewing the infection then testing positive once they have all been here.

cherish123 · 15/12/2021 22:05

Poor you. It will be difficult being isolated from DC until 23rd. Hopefully they don't catch it. It will be lovely having a quiet Christmas, though.

Raspberrysins · 15/12/2021 22:25

I tested positive on Saturday, DD1 did on Sunday, and DD2 today (LFT so far). My DH is on tenterhooks... it's impossible isolating people in a house, I'm not sure how people manage? I've been having to use the kitchen and bathroom. Sleeping in separate bedrooms and windows open etc. Me and DH currently in the lounge together watching tv, but on separate sides of the room wearing masks. If he gets it now that's Christmas done! It's the waiting and not knowing that's the worst. DD2 cried today when she realised she will miss her friends Christmas eve party. We are trying our best to remain positive but it's hard!

AD80 · 15/12/2021 23:11

We have covid and should be all our just before Christmas. Dp actually finishes isolating tomorrow but Dd didn't test positive until yesterday.

Being at home around Christmas Eve, Christmas Day etc doesn't reallt bother me. I am more sad we've missed the whole of the build up to Christmas and my dc have missed all the fun Christmas things at school 😪

Heruka · 15/12/2021 23:13

Awww sorry to all those who are struggling. I have to say I’d love the reason to cancel the big family gathering, I don’t want anyone to be unwell of course but it’s shown me how much I want a peaceful Christmas and plan to choose accordingly next year.

Debsdonein · 15/12/2021 23:24

DS1 in isolation until 24th. Just waiting to see if DS2 and me catch it 🙄

Woofins · 15/12/2021 23:52

Yes DH tested positive on a LFT tonight he's a a bit of a cough I did a PCR Monday as I have a bad cough came back negative. We did PCRs last week as there was covid in my daughter's crèche all negative. All booked in for PCRs tomorrow. Don't have any food in for Christmas as we were planning on spending with family 3 hours away. Not to sure what to do food wise. Click and collect is all booked up til the far side of Christmas.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 15/12/2021 23:57

Yep - can’t see family abroad and it’s our second isolating Christmas. When we’ve been so careful and others are out partying it feels unfair but with dc in school it was unavoidable

GoldenFondue · 16/12/2021 00:21

Ooh, I also have 2 young children, am the only household member positive and get out of isolation on the the 23rd!

I haven't cancelled anything yet though, would just be my parents we'd be seeing on Christmas day if it goes ahead.

How are you feeling? Are you isolating away from the family? Would be nice to compare notes, I feel like we're the only family in the works isolating when I look out my window or on social media wahh!

Champagneforeveryone · 16/12/2021 01:27

Not that I'm aware of (yet!) but DM has cancelled her plans to visit so it will be just DH, DS(17) and I.

It was the same last year and secretly I was utterly thrilled, irrational really since DM is the least taxing houseguest you could ask for. Even better, I'm working over part of the holiday so I get to escape the house for some other company.

I'm sorry for those who are unwell or will be alone as a result though (DM is harvesting dinner invitations Grin)

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 16/12/2021 01:59

My sons partner has just tested positive so he won’t be coming home for Xmas. Absolutely gutted as I’ve hardly seen him in the past two years.

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 16/12/2021 02:38

Oh no, @actiongirl1978 and @Justhereforthechristmasthreads, I didn’t know it was possible to catch it again so soon! May I ask if you had had the jab(s) when it happened? Thought I would be immune for a few more months but maybe not - nooo!

@TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine

Personally I had been double jabbed for 7 weeks the first time I tested positive on pcr (no symptoms only pcr tested as hubby was positive with symptoms - my lateral flow was negative)

Second time 24 and a half weeks after my second jab (and just before i was due my booster which I got the invitation for whilst isolating and then had to wait 28 days after positive test for) .

My antibody blood tests after second infection now show that I have antibodies from an infection and antibodies from the jab - although as the results message says this does not mean I am immune

EewwwDavid · 16/12/2021 05:22

Ds2 is positive, so we can finish isolation on 22nd. However no one else in the house has had it yet, but surely it's a matter of time and we will be isolating over Xmas!
Have changed my guosto delivery day to ensure we have something to eat for Xmas dinner if we can't get to the shops Xmas Smile

actiongirl1978 · 16/12/2021 05:37

@TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine

Yes I am triple jabbed. Had second jab mid June and caught covid off DD about the 20th August.

I do feel quite unlucky! Though I'm asthmatic so prone to upper respitory tract infections so this is like one of many I get each year.

Fishlegs · 16/12/2021 05:49

My dd (10) tested positive yesterday on a lateral flow, although she is asymptomatic. Waiting on her pcr result now. Both sets of gp were due to come for Christmas lunch (luckily fairly local) but they won’t be able to come now 😢

Such a shame that they’ll be on their own again after last year. I’m really hoping that my dsis is able to have my parents over, but dh’s dsis is supposed to be visiting elsewhere so won’t be able to have her parents for the day 😢

Timeisavirtue · 16/12/2021 06:42

DP had it back in October but the other 7 in the house didn’t get it. Its impossible to completely isolate from each other aswell. Strange how it works...
Luckily the people we spend Christmas with, we all live in the same house..we are very lucky on that front.

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 16/12/2021 10:00

@Justhereforthechristmasthreads That really is rotten luck for you. Fingers crossed you now have enough antibodies that your immune system will laugh in the face of omicron! Depressing to realise am more vulnerable than realised (CEV so was clinging to hope re the jabs)

Quite similar timeline to when I had (second) bout of Covid. I knew the jabs would only provide some protection, but I really hoped catching this flipping virus would guarantee 6 months of immunity! Fingers crossed you don’t catch it again.

Ah how are you doing? I keep feeling better then worse, just dizzy and super tired. My partner is a working from home but v busy so I am having to look after the toddler. Been testing elder one daily and sending him to school, feel guilty sending him in but they told us to.
