So what are you having?

And what are the kids having?

Adults: beef Wellington, lamb, stuffing, Yorkshire's, gravy, Mac n cheese, rice & peas, roasties, roast carrots, steamed broccoli.

Kids: pastry from Wellington, lamb if they fancy it, Yorkshire's, gravy, Mac and cheese, rice, roasties and probably cucumber 🤣🤣🤣

Don't your kids like meat or something? Mine have always loved it

isacurlypotatoaquaver · 13/12/2021 11:22

@fortunesfave my children are very fussy with food. They never used to be it's from school where they've become fussy eaters.

Waitrose “no meat” Wellington - is delicious! Sprouts, mash, carrots, roast potatoes, mashed swede, veggie Yorkshire puddings, chestnut stuffing, plant kitchen gravy from marks spencer and throw in a couple of Linda McCartney pies! All 5 of us vegan/veggie -

witsendeverytime · 13/12/2021 11:26

We have traditional Christmas meal every year (though as guest s we have had goose and partridge). It's my favourite meal of the year! Kids are teens now but always loved it too - Brussels sprouts et al (except not so keen on cranberry sauce for some reason).

UniBallEye · 13/12/2021 11:27

We're having a traditional Christmas dinner.

Smoked salmon on homemade brown soda bread to start with champagne

Free-range organic turkey crown, baked ham, sage and onion stuffing, garlic and rosemary roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, thyme roast carrots & parsnips, creamy mash, marrowfat peas, cranberry sauce, gravy.

Sherry trifle / fresh cream yule log for dessert

Cheese board / Christmas pudding / Christmas cake / mince pies / baileys cream etc as and when people feel like it.

SophieHatterPendragon · 13/12/2021 11:31

Slow roasted beef shin and roasted lamb with pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, roasted sprouts with bacon, red cabbage, various green veggie and Yorkshire pudding

Pudding: profiteroles, Yule log and gateau. DH and kids don’t like Xmas pud or mince pies so no point.

Cheese board and nibbles for later if anyone is hungry. Also usually do a gammon that can be sliced for sandwiches over the Xmas period

languagelover96 · 13/12/2021 11:33

Cold cuts of meat
Turkey
Fruit and cheese platter
Candy canes
Christmas cake
Mince pies
Christmas chocolate box
Christmas pudding
Trifle

TheDogsMother · 13/12/2021 11:36

Smoked salmon/crevettes starter, steak frites, Tarte au Citron. Not at all traditional but it's what we fancied. There will be mince pies, Christmas cake, Baileys, chocs etc as well.

2TurtleDovesInARow · 13/12/2021 11:37

Vegan household here too. I've ordered a seitan roast from a local vegan café. Will serve with roasties, maple roasted carrots and parsnips, sprouts, red cabbage in cider. Pudding will be a white chocolate 'cheesecake' from the same place. I usually do everything from scratch but I'm due baby number three...well, yesterday, so trying to take the pressure off!

Are you of Caribbean heritage? I love rice and peas but can't imagine it with a roast...do you have gravy near/on it? 😁 Mac and cheese sounds like a winner with a roast. Like cauli cheese but more carbs. Yum.

JingleJingleAllTheWay · 13/12/2021 11:38

My little ones will have what we are having.
Roast Turkey,
Roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, carrot and parsnip mash, Yorkshire puds and gravy.

C0nn1e · 13/12/2021 11:49

Everyone eats the same, I don't use duck or goose fat for the roast potatoes, so Ds1 girlfriend can eat them. We have a traditional Christmas dinner and everyone looks forward to eat it. Except my cousin but she's uninvited this year!

DoucheCanoe · 13/12/2021 11:51

Lentil soup and a crusty buttered roll.

Turkey, ham, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, sweetcorn, kilted pigs, sausage meat stuffing and Yorkshire pudding.

Milkybar cheesecake with raspberry drizzle and single cream.

9yo eats the same, 15yo has a restricted diet so will have:
Crusty buttered roll
Cold sausage rolls
Cheesecake

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 13/12/2021 11:54

Theres just the 4 of us this year, but I'll be doing our usual

  • Turkey & gravy (enough to feed 10, so husband can have leftovers for days lol)
  • Roast Potatoes
  • Green beans with butter & toasted shaved almonds
  • American bread stuffing w/herbs and cranberries
  • Pork, sage & onion stuffing
  • Maple honey glazed carrots & parsnips
  • Bacon wrapped asparagus
  • Cauliflower cheese
  • Dinner rolls or fresh baked baguette
  • pigs in blankets (maybe?)

I eat keto, so won't be having the potatoes, roast veg or dinner rolls. I'll be making a keto dessert of some sort for myself, and a selection of cheeses. They'll be having mince pies, homemade chocolate Yule log and I'll probably make another.

ChristmasWithBellsOn · 13/12/2021 11:59

We're doing an alternative Christmas meal this year:

  • Pear, candied walnut and roquefort salad (with raddicio, raw and poached pears).
  • Risotto Milanese (saffron risotto) with scallops on top
  • Skate wing in blackend butter, clams, shaved brussels and potato dauphinoise
  • Christmas pudding or affogato

DD5 will have some swaps to accommodate her tastes:

  • Swap salami for Roquefort
  • Swap tomato and mozarella tortellini for risotto
8Track · 13/12/2021 12:01

Roast goose, with goose fat roast potatoes. Bread sauce, cranberry sauce, gravy and stuffing. Carrots (haven't decided how to do them yet) and red cabbage. Maybe another veg ...Celeriac mash I think.

Pudding is usually trifle, either traditional or chocolate orange.

Fallagain · 13/12/2021 12:06

Smoked salmon, prawn salad. I might do some melon for my toddler.

Beef or nut roast, Yorkshires, roast pot, carrots, red cabbage, sprouts, roast parsnips, mashed swede.

Christmas pud or passion fruit sleigh

  • My girls rarely eat meat.
isacurlypotatoaquaver · 13/12/2021 12:11

@2TurtleDovesInARow yes family are from Caribbean. Gravy won't be on the rice because who wants wet rice? I forgot I'll be having sprouts and pigs in blankets too though!

Turkey, some vegetarian concoction for the fussy ones, roast potatoes, roasted carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes and beetroot, Brussels, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, cranberry orange relish, maybe peas (I hate them but they are easy and super fussy one eats them)

Everyone gets the same, always did from 10 months old, vegetarians aside

KoreyBay18 · 13/12/2021 12:22

Me, DP and 5yo DS will be having:
Crusty rolls
Cold cuts of turkey and ham
Sausage rolls
Pigs in blankets
Crudités
Cheese board

A carpet picnic :)

TheFairPrincess · 13/12/2021 12:24

Ours is a weird one because I usually do a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings but this year I'm really making an effort to get ahead and be around more, plus my DP would prefer more of a Christmassy spread with the compromise that my favourite roast dinner elements are still included. We will then add favourite foods of the kids so that everyone just has a fun happy meal.

Plans for a Christmas Dinner Buffet:

Roast Potatoes
Roast Parsnips
Cream Cabbage (maybe as its only me who eats it)
Brussel Sprouts
Bread Sauce
Roast Beef
Roast Chicken
Yorkshire Puddings
Gravy and sauces
A mix of party foods - The tesco finest chicken and waffles, hog roast bites, maple pancakes, some mini quiche lorraines, etc.

After we have eaten the main food at lunch time, I will tidy and top up the buffet for the rest of the day with cheeses, cold cuts, picallili, chutneys, olives, sweet peppers, grapes, clementines, strawberries, crisps and sweet treats. I may forgo the home cooked/large puddings altogether and have a selection of christmas cake slices, profiteroles, chocolates and biscuits.

While the kids are little it's just a bit more fun and easy. In terms of what the kids will eat, they will all eat roast chicken and yorkshire pudding reliably, plus various bits of the party food.

I am looking forward to it!

peboh · 13/12/2021 12:27

We go pretty tradition.
Meat: Turkey, beef and gammon.
Alongside: roast potatoes, mash, pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese, sprouts, a selection of other veg including roasted parsnips, Yorkshire's, stuffing and gravy.
Don't tend to do a starter, and pudding this year is a cheesecake.
DD will pick at bits off the roast, but more than likely end up with some kind of pasta as she's extremely funny with food (asd - food aversions)

ponkydonkey · 13/12/2021 12:49

My youngest hates roast of any description or gravy how he has my genes I've no idea!
So he eats pigs in blankets 😬

SloeFox · 13/12/2021 12:55

This thread is so timely. I have run out of inspiration.

DH is vegetarian. A few weeks ago I tried the mushroom and chestnut wellington from the Hairy Bikers to see what he though (with an eye to Christmas day) but although he loved it he doesn't want it again. I have one DC who eats everything and one who has a range of issues and eats a very limited diet.

So, ;

Starter - salmon, prawns and salmon roe for me with various trimmings. - blinis with pickled beetroot and goats cheese and mint for DH. Maybe blinis sort of welsh rarebit stile for Dcs.

Main- roast chicken with bread sauce gravy for me and DS2. Sliced ham for DS1. DH no idea. Nut roast possibly. With full usual christmas sides for us all except DS1 who only eats raw cucumbers, peppers and tomatos.

Pudding- tiramisu and custard for 3 of us and packet chocolate custard and sprinkles for Ds1.

But nothing is set in stone and I would love some ideas.

NortieTortie · 13/12/2021 13:07

No starters. (except a cheeky selection box)

Meal is turkey crown (with one of those ASDA order veggie roast for veggies), pigs in blankets (veggie version), roasties, yorkies, cabbage, broccoli, sprouts and sweet potato mash. Gravy, mint sauce, bread sauce, cranberry sauce.

Picky DC will have sausages, roasties (courtesy of Aunt Bessie, they're not keen on homemade), pigs in blankets, yorkies, green beans and sweetcorn.

Cheesecake and black forest gateau for pud.

TheCreamCaker · 13/12/2021 13:27

Christmas Day - (3 adults) Beef Rogan Josh, naans, Samosas, onion bhajis (everything made from scratch, no Patak jars here Grin

Boxing Day - ( 4 adults, 2 kids) Beef and turkey, pigs in blankets, roast and mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrots, sprouts, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding.
