What is your Christmas shopping ratio of in store v online?

I've done 80:20 in favour of in store shopping. It's been time consuming though and in hindsight I actually wish I'd done more online.

Traffic, parking, achy feet from lots of walking, busy, queues, not really sure what I'm looking for. Just no fun. Only downside to me for online shopping is all the packaging you then have to get rid of.

What about you?

Online.
Mainly tech gifts, who would go to a ship to buy them?
Other stuff I have tried and failed to buy from shoos. Clothes, local marks and sparks rarely had my size, so I have to go online.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/12/2021 08:57

100% online

anotherneutralname · 13/12/2021 08:59

100% online
About 20% of that collect from store, from independents.

All the working from home at least means I'm in to receive everything and don't have to carry heavy stuff back to the car.

Mind you I surpassed myself last night and wrapped everything. I loathe wrapping so spend Christmas Eve doing it in a foul mood every year - finally cottoned onto myself and got it done early, might even enjoy the 24th this year and be a bit less shattered come Christmas morning!

I'm 100% online. But that is exactly the same as always. Covid has made no difference in that respect. No decent shops nearby ( occasionally DH buys an extra pint of milk in the tiny shop ) and I can't risk stuff not being available. I do buy from 'local' retailers online though, as in those based in my county, in an effort to support those

CelebrateYourOwnWay · 13/12/2021 09:27

95% online.

Adelais · 13/12/2021 09:35

About 95% online. I went into town once to go to Primark, B&M and Home bargains as you can’t buy from there online.

UsernameInTheTown · 13/12/2021 09:45

99% online. I have 4 dogs to buy for and 1 rabbit and the majority of their gifts were bought in the flesh.

TisTheSeasonToBeVegan · 13/12/2021 09:50

100% online. Before covid it was probably about 80% but since covid, I go to shops as little as possible.

I think Home Bargains do online, I’m sure someone told me they ordered Xmas lights from there.

HalfWomanHalfMincePie · 13/12/2021 09:57

100% online.

Timetoeat · 13/12/2021 13:29

Researched online first before any shopping ,to chose what I was going to buy, then bought online what I knew I wouldn't be able to get locally to me, and then bought the rest in local shops.
So half and half I suppose.

mam0918 · 13/12/2021 15:05

Mostly online... it is quicker and easier but now the final bits (sweets etc...) in store.

they do but only some stuff and most items in bulk (so you cant buy 1 you have to buy 6 etc...)
Stroopwaffle5000 · 13/12/2021 15:18

About 80% online. I panic and impulse buy in shops.

NinaDefoe · 13/12/2021 16:42

People saying online delivery is a problem (lost, damaged & missing parcels, having to wait in for them) - I always buy from retailers who offer click and collect from our local petrol station or corner shop.
Amazon deliver to the post office, John Lewis deliver to the CoOp.
Next also sells loads of branded stuff to collect from the tiny Next near here.
Sainsbury’s deliver non food to Argos stores and vice versa.
I don’t mind collecting parcels but hate the worry of ‘will it, won’t it turn up’ at the house.

Wizardora83 · 13/12/2021 16:45

I did most of it online but all 4 orders from Etsy stores were disappointing, packed badly, not as described or really poorly made.

I don’t have the heart to leave poor feedback as I know store owners are struggling / super busy.

I think I have learnt my lesson though so I’ll be going back to in store shopping. Absolutely gutted as everything always looks gorgeous on there.

Sad
AliceMcK · 13/12/2021 16:58

Probably 50/50 in store shopping is usually done throughout the year in sales. The rest online. I very rarely buy anything in the shops in the lead up to Christmas as I like to be done early and hate the busyness of shops.

alrightfella · 13/12/2021 17:09

I've tried to do it n person but it's nearly impossible. Been told oh we only have that online, oh we don't have that size have you tried online. Next year I'm doing it all online in the first place.

Etsy has been shocking this year. So many "handmade" items arrive with a Made in China sticker. Then you have a search and realise it's all just rebadged from Ali-Express.
pinkksugarmouse · 15/12/2021 19:26

Almost all presents online but mostly small sellers like Etsy. Books from hive. Food shopping will be in person but we don’t get much extra.

Lovemusic33 · 15/12/2021 19:41

80% online

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 15/12/2021 20:28

95% online. We are 30 miles away from a decent high street. If I wanted to do more in person I’d need to take at least 2 days off work to do it.

greenweepingwillow · 15/12/2021 20:56

about 97% on line. But then I always have done it this ay , at least for about the last 10 years. A mix of small online shops, handmade goods, etsy and bigger places and amazon.

1stTimeMama · 16/12/2021 00:06

99/1 in favour of the internet. I have bought a scarf in an actual shop, but resent it! Online I'd have probably got a discount, earned cashback, not had to pay £12 parking, and wouldn't be around all the people!

livingthegoodlife · 16/12/2021 14:55

Probably about 70% online. I'm really happy with my in person purchases though and found things I would never have searched for online so it's definitely worth going in person.
