I've done 80:20 in favour of in store shopping. It's been time consuming though and in hindsight I actually wish I'd done more online.

Traffic, parking, achy feet from lots of walking, busy, queues, not really sure what I'm looking for. Just no fun. Only downside to me for online shopping is all the packaging you then have to get rid of.

What about you?

Almost everything from independent stores apart from gifts for foreign family and specific crafts bits for my mum. I live in a lovely town with independent shops. My favourite shops are the Lego/Playmobil shop and the boardgame shop.

GoodnightGrandma · 13/12/2021 06:24

I’d say 98% online. I was really disappointed at the state of town when I went in, and the selection of stuff available.
I came home from town and ordered stuff that I couldn’t get in the shops online.

Pheebs2021 · 13/12/2021 07:17

This year I would say 50:50 however the 50% high Street is literally one shop and only because it was a bargain. Usually I would say closer to 95:5 even brought my wrapping paper online this year.

Exhausteddog · 13/12/2021 07:24

Most "main" presents I've bought online but I went out shopping for decorations yesterday, and smaller "stocking" presents i will likely get in real shops. Its a crazy time at work so I don't have a lot of time for Xmas shopping in shops.

JurassicShay · 13/12/2021 07:24

100% online

rrhuth · 13/12/2021 07:26

90% in store, and 0% from places that don't pay proper taxes.

Spendinh my money where I feel happy to is important to me.

EmmyLake · 13/12/2021 07:28

100% online. Struggle with masks so it's the easiest way! Doesn't mean I won't use small businesses too though - I'll try to buy from a variety of online retailers and not just the big names.

Prettypennies · 13/12/2021 07:29

70:30 online

LunaLoveFood · 13/12/2021 07:29

100% online including food. I love the convenience and amazon wish list means people get what they want but still a surprise. It also makes it so much easier for the people who live at the other end of the country as gifts can be gift wrapped and delivered.

arcticfoxed · 13/12/2021 07:33

I’ve done mostly in-store this year.

I’m finding online shopping increasingly stressful - parcels being left outside, having to wait to see if it’s what you thought, the hassle of returns and just not being able to wander and browse for random inspiration. Sure you can look through shops online but it’s not quite the same as just walking around to get ideas.

So I did as much as possible in the shops. I’ve done the last 15% online but I’m quite stressed waiting for it to arrive.

arcticfoxed · 13/12/2021 07:34

PS I can’t do the external link to Amazon thing now as you can no longer do this on a phone and I only have a work laptop so can’t get the add on.

arcticfoxed · 13/12/2021 07:34

Wish it still worked as was so handy

MintJulia · 13/12/2021 07:38

About 50:50.

Local suppliers are less expensive for things like plants, hand crafted goods, speciality foods etc. Local farmers markets are very good too.

Nidan2Sandan · 13/12/2021 07:47

95% online. I have bought 2 presents in store and 3 stocking gifts in store. The rest is all online.

DockOTheBay · 13/12/2021 07:50

90% online. I have an 18 month old so I have to take her with me or go in the evening so online is much easier. Plus being able to compare prices and products is a big bonus for me - I've got some bargains this year.

The high Street has been in decline for years and unfortunately they can't keep up with the convenience of online. Maybe covid has sped up the process but it was inevitable anyways

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/12/2021 07:52

100% online so far. I can't walk really anymore so there is no chance of me trailing round shops

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/12/2021 07:56

hmm, buying less presents thus far at least, 75/25 in favour of online estimate

Nanasueathome · 13/12/2021 07:56

All online…except for the Haribo and Lindt…which I went to the new Cannock Mcarthur Glen outlet for
All food shopping online too
I have fruit and veg delivered from the local wholesale market (they set this up during lockdown)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/12/2021 07:57

but i work in town centre so still chance of a catch up in my lunch break

noscoobydoodle · 13/12/2021 07:58

Normally I book a day off work before schools break up and do at least half of my shopping in real shops in the local city on my own with plenty of hot chocolate and mulled wine along the way. Bliss. I tested + for Covid on Saturday so having to rethink those plans! Also isolating with DH and 3 kids (all +) so not sure when I will have time to order without anyone seeing, or be able to intercept the post (assuming it even arrives in time!). I do have some stuff for everyone already bought and tucked away thanks to the bargain threads on here thank goodness!

MatildaIThink · 13/12/2021 08:04

100% online, with a combination of deliveries and click and collect.

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/12/2021 08:21

Almost all online this year and I’ve ordered the main parts of the dinner. I will be shopping in store for the Christmas week shop though. I can’t face dragging two under 3s round the shops to be honest!

Babdoc · 13/12/2021 08:27

98% online, including all the food, real tree and presents. The only thing I bought in person was a wreath from the garden centre.
And yes, I think high street shopping is doomed. My two nearest cities seem to be mostly nail bars, hairdressers and restaurants now anyway, so I think the trend is well underway.

dottiedodah · 13/12/2021 08:34

About 90% online . After years of travelling High streets / large stores ,hot tired and with sore feet .Have now discovered the delights of OL retailers .Also many times when have been to M and S for example have been redirected OL. Its Etsy /Amazon/Ebay all the way now!

Ragwort · 13/12/2021 08:48

All instore, I loathe on line shopping with a passion, all food, drinks etc bought in store. Never done a supermarket delivery. I work in retail and enjoy looking round shops - to be honest though I don't buy many gifts.
