Stocking fillers for DC2, 15 months old - help!

NameChange30 · 11/12/2021 20:27

DC2 is 15 months old and already has SO MANY TOYS, all of DC1's baby/toddler toys plus toys that have been given to her.

I do have to give her a few Christmas presents, even though she won't know the difference, because of DC1 (4y9m). Also, family might still ask me for ideas.

For her "big" presents I'm giving her two things we don't have that I think she'll like: an aqua doodle set and a toy shopping trolley.

It's the stocking presents that have left me a bit stumped. I've dug out some small books that we hadn't got out yet (we already have millions but oh well!) Going to try and find some little In The Night Garden figures that DC1 liked and I'm sure are in a box somewhere! And maybe chuck some bubbles in too, all toddlers love bubbles.

Other than that... WTF else?!

We already have (and she likes)
Millions of books (musical, lift the flap, etc)
Thousands of crayons
Hundreds of cuddly toys
Various and numerous puppets (hand and finger puppets)
Tomy squeaky eggs
Musical toys (xylophone, drum, piano)
Blocks of various types and size (wooden blocks, megabloks, duplo)
Baby puzzles
Toy kitchen and food
Scramblebug
Small rocking horse
Pikler triangle (was considering getting the slide but might save that for next birthday)

We also have DC1's old scooter and balance bike that I'm saving for when she's a bit bigger, although she was playing with a scooter at a playgroup the other day.

Sorry I've got distracted by talking about big items... but I mainly just need small things (size and cost wise) for her stocking. Please help!

PS Is it worth getting her a toddler trike, one of those Lena bike / Toddlebike or Diditrike type things? Seems overkill if she already has the scramblebug, but might be a good thing to have until she's big enough for the balance bike??

Spiky flashy ball
Organix gingerbread men
Shaped painting sponges (we used these on our aqua doodle mat)
Shatterproof mirror

It sounds as though you're conscious of having a house full of toys already but don't want your second child to be treated differently to your first - a dilemma. Personally, I wouldn't worry about her stocking being a bit thinner (as she won't be aware of it) as long as her main presents appear to be of similar value. You'll find threads on here for older children where parents always put 'useful' bits in stockings and you could pop in some pretty pink tights or pj's or some hair bows/slides?

Xmas socks
Hair brush
Slippers
Xmas hat
Wipes!
Bubble bath
Fun sponge /flannel
Dummies!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/12/2021 20:39

Add ons for big toys that she has inherited. So a special engine for a trainset, some food for a toy kitchen, extra animals for a farm etc.

WalkingOnSonshine · 11/12/2021 20:47

DS is nearly 1 and we’ve got him:

A soft photo book of family
A bath book
Toiletries (wrapping up existing bubble bath)
Fox flannel from John Lewis
Personalised Christmas bauble for his first Christmas
Framed picture for his nursery wall
Baby biscotti

danorak · 11/12/2021 20:52

My LO is a couple of months older and has a pretty boring stocking, it has to be said. Peppa Pig bubbles, a Thomas the Tank mini train, bath crayons, some kid's bath stuff with a slimy octopus thing in it, chocolate coins, new toddler cutlery set (needed this anyway).

I'll probably add an orange or two to bulk it out Grin

EL1984 · 11/12/2021 20:53

My boy is 16 months and we have got him a scuttle bug is his main present, a whirli subscription (he won't know!!), duplo, animal figurines, a dump truck, books...
Think you've got most of those...

I was going to get some new pj's and a swimming costume for his stocking as he needs these. Ooooh and a new food tray/bowl as we don't have enough.

Twizbe · 11/12/2021 20:59

With mine I include things they need as well as toys in their stockings.

Both are getting some new clothes as they have both grown out of some stuff.

Perhaps you can do that?

Crumpets12 · 11/12/2021 21:00

My daughter is around that age and here are some bits that we’ve brought her for Christmas and some other ideas:
A threading set
A magnifying glass
Little ducks for the bath
Bubbles
One of pop it fidget toys
If you do snacks, organix do a snack selection box or even just a few of her favourite snacks
Special Crayons for the bath
We always do toiletries so she’s got new bath sponges and bath stuff
If there’s a character they like, what about pyjamas with that character on

I find Poundland is quite good for little stocking fillers

gogohm · 11/12/2021 21:06

Don't buy anything, or wrap up things she needs/eats

badg3r · 11/12/2021 21:29

Nappies! I wrapped a whole 50 pack in parcels of a few, took up loads of space ans will be doing the same this year 😂 wipes, fruit pouches, snacks, a big empty cardboard box to play with. Job done 😉

Etherealhedgehog · 11/12/2021 21:44

My DD will be 15 months - I've got her:

A couple of toot toot cars
A couple of Happyland figures
Some plastic farm animals
A bath book and another bath toy
A board book
Bubbles

NotTheOriginalFeargalSharkey · 11/12/2021 21:47

He is so little, you can wrap some of his existing toys! He won't know. He will just enjoy unwrapping things.

Lazypuppy · 11/12/2021 21:49

Sounds like plenty, my DD has 1 toy in her stocking from Santa, no point buying small tat that you don't really want to just to 'fill it'

User00000000 · 11/12/2021 21:52

Wrap up a bunch of snacks! Mine had organix gingerbread men, chocolate baby biscotti and some wee kiddylicious packet "sweets" last year.

NameChange30 · 11/12/2021 22:53

Thanks so much everyone! Xmas Smile

I will add these:
Spiky flashy ball - I'm sure we have one in a box somewhere, I'll try and find it to wrap
Organix gingerbread men - good shout, have added 2 little packets of these to the online shop
Socks - she'll need some in next size up (I kept all DS's but like to get her a few girly ones!)
Toddler cutlery set - could definitely do with more
And maybe a new plate and/or cup...

Photo book of family is a good idea - I did one for DS a few years ago but we need a new one with DD in it! Not sure I'll have time though so I will have to put these on the "maybe" list... may end up being a second birthday present!

We already have
Painting sponges
Hairbrush
Christmas hat
Bath book
Bath toys
Toot Toot cars

And she never took a dummy, I did try but she wasn't having it (ebf which is probably why).

A picture for her bedroom would be a nice addition to the main presents. The walls are a bit bare as we only just got the essentials ready (decorating, furniture) before she was born!

Will mention Whirli subscription to grandparents if they ask, that would be good for both DCs.

Thanks again, feeling better now Xmas Smile

I really like this approach and will bear it in mind for Christmas and birthday presents. In fact I have decided to give her the scooter for Christmas (which we already have) and buy the seat to turn it into a ride-on, I'm chuffed with that solution because it'll make the hand-me-down into something new for her Smile

I wonder if there is something we could get for the toy kitchen as a stocking filler... not that we really need anything extra!

As I said in my OP, she won't know, but her big brother will. For her first Christmas, she was only 3 months old, but I still had to give her a main present and a few stocking fillers (just a few of DC1's baby toys wrapped up), otherwise he would have asked us why Santa didn't give her any presents. He'll be excited to see what Santa has given her, and she'll enjoy some "new" toys (even if they're old ones), too.

Things for her stocking that she needs rather than toys. Pulling things out of a stocking is exciting enough! Remember the viral video of the toddler opening a wrapped avocado? Couldn't have been more thrilled!
In fact the only thing I can think of at all that isn't on your list of stuff you already has is something to hide in/be inside, it could be a cardboard box or a tiny pop up tent ( I recommend the latter so it can be put away). It will be lovely for them both as a sharing present with their pillows or cushions off the sofa inside.

ohreallynotreally · 11/12/2021 23:07

I personally would not bother ! Save your money until she understands Christmas…just get her a decent present that she can play with in the garden in the summer.Older brother really will not give it any thought after a few minutes.

Thank you, they have a pop-up tent. They do like it. It's a bugger to fold down Grin We also have a teepee, which was a gift and is lovely.

Trust me when I say that my son will notice and care about his sister's presents. He's really into giving gifts, not just receiving, which is lovely. Of course he'll be mostly excited by his own gifts (I hope!) but he will want to see what she gets. He knows and remembers what she got "from Santa" last year.

A few suggestions:

Set of sensory balls (different colours and textures)
Set of stacking cups
Wooden push-along toy (DD has one that’s like a penguin with a broom handle)
High chair toy
Cloth book (easy to roll up to fit the stocking)

NameChange30 · 11/12/2021 23:58

Sensory balls - got
Stacking cups - got (more than one set!)
Push-along toy - got (ours is similar but a duck)
High chair toy - got one but no longer used as just gets chucked on the floor (along with everything else, food, plate, cup etc)
Cloth book - had loads of these but gave them away, she's not interested, much prefers board books, or even better, her big brother's books (with rippable pages Confused)

Sorry to be difficult but all the obvious things are pretty much covered, hence being stuck.

I am sorted now though thanks to various suggestions on this thread.
