I like baking but never really do anything at Christmas because nobody likes mince pies or Christmas cake! What can I make that's lovely and Christmassy please? But isn't mince pies or Christmas cake!

I’ve got this Cranberry and Orange Chelsea bun Christmas tree thing proving at the moment! Not tried it before but it looks amazing.

Gonna find a recipe for a choc orange Yule log this year.

Cinnamon buns.

Biscotti.

We always make a gingerbread house - got a really good silicone mould from Lakeland.

Nigella gingerbread cake is like a delicious gingery sponge. I put tiny fir trees and deer on top and sprinkle with icing sugar snow.

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

homemade mincemeat.. i like your style!!

the think pastry and star tops sound like a plan - i may pinch that! Xmas Grin

repottingthescabious · 11/12/2021 16:43

*thin pastry

not think pastry

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/12/2021 18:43

A Christmas crumble - about 2/3 Bramleys to 1/3 mincemeat, is a regular in this house - delish.

TheChild · 11/12/2021 18:50

I've done mint chocolate crinkle cookies, white chocolate and lemon fudge, dark chocolate and orange fudge, chocolate batons, chocolate and coconut covered hazelnuts.

I need some savoury things to make, I'm an expert at making really simple chocolate and sweets and very basic baking recipes!

HelenaJustina · 11/12/2021 18:54

I always make gingerbread stars, cranberry and white chocolate flapjack and a Christmas cake. We made some biscotti earlier this year and I fancy finding a Christmassy version.

No good at b making but I always make a sausage plait for my Dad - using ready made puff pastry Blush

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 11/12/2021 19:43

@Pickles89
Care to share any recipes for these delicious treats!!

Pickles89 · 11/12/2021 19:54

@Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas Certainly! I'm going to make you all sign a disclaimer though - I will not accept any responsibility for Death-By-Sugar!!

hotmeatymilk · 11/12/2021 19:57

Christmas cake, panforte, florentines, gingerbread, tree biscuits, cinnamon bread wreath on Christmas morning, lebkuchen, lemon tart (for something sharp to cut through all the rich spicy baking), bread…

SamMil · 11/12/2021 19:57

Pfeffernusse

RaininSummer · 11/12/2021 20:06

Some of my favourites are Clementine cake, spiked cherry cheesecake, tiramisu, ginger cake, gingerbread, and creole Christmas cake. Only make a couple if these each Christmas though or I would be the size of a house

Itsnotdeep · 11/12/2021 20:13

We do make endless sets of mince pies as everyone here loves them. But this year I haven't made a Christmas cake for the first time as no one likes it (I am going to make a Chocolate cake instead - Nigella's guinness cake which is the nicest chocolate cake and I reckon will look a bit snowy with all the white icing on top).

We are making gingerbread houses and biscuits.

Nigella's clementine cake
Various biscuits from NIgella's christmas book as they're delicious (the cranberry and pecan ones especially)
Delia's squidgy chocolate log is just gorgeous
Christmas rocky road
Truffles (I just google these)

QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis · 11/12/2021 20:33

Nutella Christmas tree!

marmitedoughnut · 11/12/2021 20:48

Surprised nobody has mentioned stollen.

BiddyPop · 11/12/2021 20:52

Spiced Christmas biscuits.

Candy cane cookies.

Mince pies.

Sausage rolls.

I plan to make a Yule log every year and every year I don't.

BiddyPop · 11/12/2021 20:55

Btw I also use jus rol, pastry for my sausage rolls, and use sausage meat that I grate a cooking apple into and add some thyme leaves or chopped sage.

Mrsbrownsbuoys · 11/12/2021 20:57

@BobGalaxy

Shortbread with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, and orange and lemon zest Xmas Biscuit smells as good as it tastes!
Sounds lovely. Do you have a recipe?
Retrievemysanity · 11/12/2021 21:01

Yule log-Annabel Karmel recipe that I’ve been using since DD was a baby. It’s amazing and everyone eats it.
Chocolate orange hearts
Christmas gallette from a recipe I had when I was at school (puff pastry with icing on top and mincemeat inside)

WotgunShedding · 11/12/2021 21:02

So far we’ve made:

  • chocolate gingerbread biscuits
  • Rudolph brownies
  • Christmas pud cake pops with some of the leftover brownies
  • spiced apple cake with a cinnamon streusel topping
  • chocolate doughnuts that looked like reindeer

The reindeer-themed things were for Christmas bake sales/children’s Christmas parties and aren’t usually part of the Christmas repertoire! Still got to make fudge, mini gingerbread houses, Christmas flapjacks and crinkle cookies plus all the delicious things posted above

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 11/12/2021 21:44

I make this which looks like the tree linked earlier, using my bread maker to make the dough (I use the hot cross bun recipe in the bread maker manual minus the dried fruit and spices).

This gingerbread is not too fiddly looks nice with icing

Hairwizard · 12/12/2021 07:44

Ive decided on mince pies, have bought mince meat which i will bling up a bit then im attempting my own pastry. A poster on here has given a recipe to try.
Also doing shortbread, cranberry and orange cookies and might try sausage rolls.

Wigeon · 12/12/2021 11:43

Oooh, yes, stollen! Gonna make that again this year too.

Also inspired by this thread to make clementine cake, sounds delicious.

BobGalaxy · 12/12/2021 21:10

@Mrsbrownsbuoys I used this one (with added lemon zest). I'm not sure it's the same one I've used the last few years, but they came out lovely all the same! I used a Christmas tree cutter and dusted them with icing sugar and cinnamon.
