Can I change the name of who it's from when I transfer it?

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 04/12/2021 22:11

I think he knows... Grin
Still, if you're not ready to be open about it all, just tell him FC will transfer it to you and you send it to him.

Piggy42 · 04/12/2021 22:13

@Hesma you’re calling a 10 year old a cheeky fucker? Bit harsh.

3peassuit · 04/12/2021 22:23

I’m surprised that a 10 year old still believes. He could be playing you.

newusernameforxmas · 04/12/2021 22:25

Gotta love him for trying though :)

Our Father Christmas (and Elves) only make toys and gifts. Not tech or money. It kept their expectations reasonable and big gifts from us or for birthdays x

AdoraBell · 04/12/2021 22:44

As others have pointed out, FC doesn’t have cash.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/12/2021 22:45

I think he's just humouring you and/or toeing the line. To be honest, I think a lot of older children whose parents insist that they still believe don't actually believe at all, but are just continuing to play the game, in case you tell them "old enough not to believe = old enough not to need any/decent/lots of presents any more".

SparklingLime · 04/12/2021 23:06

@Comefromaway

Father Christmas delivers presents other people have bought. He just provides the stockings.
I don’t think that’s true Xmas Hmm What about his Elves? They are busy making toys year around, surely?
Smokeahontas · 04/12/2021 23:10

I think that could see Santa embroiled in money laundering, if thousands of kids wanted it.

Lopoem · 04/12/2021 23:15

My oldest DD last year expressed doubts that Father Christmas existed (then 4 nearly 5) 😕. Now at 5 nearly 6 she has told us she does believe in Father Christmas, although certain other things she has said makes me wonder if she is humouring us. Don't want to ask too much as if she is on the border don't want to draw attention. Are you sure at 10 he still believes?

TheLovelinessOfBaublyDemons · 05/12/2021 00:24

I can assure you all that he does still believe. He's quite naiive and gullible. I'm planning on having the talk with him in the summer holidays, as he goes to secondary school in September. He also believes that his Bear's alive.

@ThatParent

If he's old enough to be asking for that kind of money, surely he knows! I'm a bit shocked a 10 year old is asking for cash, tbh. Or FC doesn't do money, imagine all the people in the world asking for cash, he's not a bank...something along those lines?
He's been asking for money for years, so he can save it. So has his big brother.

@SSOYS

I think you could do this by creating a gift link, sending it to yourself then writing the gift message as if from Santa. You can add Christmassy graphics too.

Not sure whether he’ll be able to see that it is really from you but presumably it’s just a bit of fun so you’re not giving anything away.

This is very helpful. Thanks.

My 9 yr old ds has asked for bitcoin. Grin

TheLovelinessOfBaublyDemons · 05/12/2021 00:35

Oh I see I can just change my nickname from Mummy to Father Christmas! Xmas Grin

Santa only delivers Toys and Sweets ... so if he asked for money, he would get this lovely set, filled with (moon) sand and maybe £20.- in cons mixed in! Grin

Father Christmas does bring money I can confirm. He bought me a cheque in approximately 1994. I can't remember the name of the bank but the address was Lapland so all legit.

(In my case it was because I wanted a bike, but it was too expensive for my parents to get so they convinced me to ask for a contribution from Santa. He brought me a cheque for £50 and that combined with donations from other gift givers got me my bike).

thickthighs73 · 05/12/2021 00:43

I’d rather give cash (perhaps he wants to save up for something), than a load of unnecessary plastic tat or things they don’t really want or need

Exactly better to spend £100 on something he wants. If OP was going to spend £100 anyway.

This is the problem with the whole Santa thing isn’t it. Santa has never brought presents from anyone except him here. Its completely made up so we all do it differently. There is no right or wrong. Some say no electric items others get iPads etc . Some say only stockings others get all presents from Santa. Do what you want OP there is no wrong way to do it.
WaterAndRichTea · 05/12/2021 02:16

Asking for £100!!?

Have you done things with him like donating to food banks, given his old toys to less fortunate ?

WaterAndRichTea · 05/12/2021 02:17

I always think about when children return to school

Alex got a PS5 from Santa
Joseph got a Nintendo Switch
But Andrew didnt get anything,
Now Andrew is wondering why santa didnt visit him!!!

KateInHappyland · 05/12/2021 02:20

No you can’t, and any workaround to transfer money under a fake name would likely involve financial fraud, risking both sender and recipient’s accounts being frozen pending investigation.

If he genuinely still believe in FC, perhaps tell him in this case FC gives the money to the parents as they set up the account? Confused
Closest alternative I can think of!

I think about this too. Blush

Unpopular opinion, but I’m really not big on the whole Santa concept and am debating whether I actually want to go down that road with future DC.
In a way, I think I’d rather teach them he’s a fun character we enjoy at Christmas - the same way we watch Disney films and Harry Potter. A fun bit of magic, but we don’t pretend they’re real!

SarahBellam · 05/12/2021 06:00

I’d give him the cash in a card then you can put it in his account. I don’t think £100 is excessive - it would cost you a lot more if he wanted a phone/Xbox/iPad/VR device…which most of them seem to want these days.
