What to do with mum's vintage Christmas paper

Mum died a couple of years ago this month and when clearing out her bedroom I found these 3 sheets of unused wrapping paper. Couldn't even imagine chucking them out but it seems a shame to have them rolled up on my wardrobe gathering dust all year. Any ideas of how to incorporate them into Christmas without destroying them? I mean yes there is an element of naffness about them 😆 but also they take me right back to my childhood Christmases 40+ years ago. Any ideas??

Good idea about turning it somehow into a decoration

lupad · 30/11/2021 09:43

you could do mini present tree decorations

I still remember some wrapping paper from my childhood (I'm 59)! One in particular was shiny bright pink with Santas all over it.
I think photographing it is a good idea, and you could also make it up to new wrapping paper using an online service.

Can you find some wooden/cardboard decorations in tree/Star/present shapes and decoupage them?

They are really lovely OP, a lovely reminder of your childhood.

@EsmeraldaFudge

Frame them as pics that only come out at Xmas?
This is what I’d probably do. They’d be a really cool Christmas decoration.

If you can bear to cut them you could put pieces in those clear baubles and hang them on the tree

I would cut shapes out of a bit of it and frame. Then use the rest in xmas eve box.

This takes me back to simpler times of the 70s and 80s. Look what i finally managed to frame this year. its been well-loved as you can see. Smile

Forgot to say frame the santa! Do not under any circumstances laminate it then roll it up. Its taken 2 years of conservation work to get my childhhod poster back.

If there are any the you could bear to cut up, why not make bunting, laminate each “flag” then thread onto ribbon with a similar vintage feel.

@Wren77 I bought 80s paper off eBay as it gave me just such a warm glow and brought precious memories. I wrapped empty boxes that live in my fireplace for the Xmas period and bring me joy every day! Though I’d suggest wrapping 5/6 sides and leaving them hollow for easier storage to stack them across the year!

Amazing how evocative a bit of Christmas paper is! You have all given me so many ideas, thank you. Definitely plan to get them copied first (we have a professional printers a few doors down so that's handy) and then - well I am torn between turning them into decorative presents or decorations for the tree. Will post again with the result!!

Back them with white card and acid free glue, and make bunting. I'd make pennants rather than triangles, as that would make best use of the patterns on the papers.

GoGoGretaDoll · 01/12/2021 17:22

The Santa needs to go in a frame, breaking it up in any way would be such a shame.

The other two, can you carefully wrap or cover tiny boxes (like jewellery box size) then put ribbon on like a present, but leave a long length to make tree decorations? Then you could share them with your siblings. Lovely thing to have.
