What to do with mum's vintage Christmas paper

Mum died a couple of years ago this month and when clearing out her bedroom I found these 3 sheets of unused wrapping paper. Couldn't even imagine chucking them out but it seems a shame to have them rolled up on my wardrobe gathering dust all year. Any ideas of how to incorporate them into Christmas without destroying them? I mean yes there is an element of naffness about them 😆 but also they take me right back to my childhood Christmases 40+ years ago. Any ideas??

Op, if you really want to do more than one thing then your couu I of get them sent off to be asked in high resolution and then reprinted. There could also be a potential market for selling the digital files on eBay/etsy.

Kerplunkk · 28/11/2021 13:37

Could you have them made into baubles, lots of people on Etsy/Instagram do this thing at this time of year

Kerplunkk · 28/11/2021 13:37

They use those round baubles that come apart in half

TrulyPistoff · 28/11/2021 13:57

Could you make crackers and hang in your tree?

Riapia · 28/11/2021 14:00

Can’t understand why you think “ there is an element of nafness about them.”
It’s the modern metallic and glittery ones that are naff.
Those are far nicer.

Arrowheart · 28/11/2021 14:08

They have taken me right back to my childhood!! Such a lovely find!!

oakleaffy · 28/11/2021 14:19

@Dottielottie123

Do you have children? Could you make a Christmas Eve box and wrap it with this, so that every year when you get it out it’s a nice little part of your mum x
Perfect idea!
Wren77 · 28/11/2021 14:24

I suppose I suggested the naffness due to expectation that people would think they are and I was saving face a bit!! But I agree they are lovely and I am so glad they have bought some happy memories back back 😊 I am interested in getting them copied as suggested - will look into that, then whatever I do with them they are saved!

@Chakraleaf

Frame!!
Yep this. ^ I have a 16" x 20" frame with a large piece of 'vintage' Christmas wrapping paper that my mother had circa 1973. I LOVE looking at it, it makes my heart sing.

@Wren77 Sorry for the loss of your mum too. Flowers

lightisnotwhite · 28/11/2021 14:29

Ebay. I bought a load years ago because I really loved the easy tear tissue of the 70’s with its cheery designs.
I love the brown paper classy designs you get now but can’t help thinking it’s all a bit grown up.

Minceandonions · 28/11/2021 14:33

I'd cover some empty wooden boxes with them - wrapped like a present but then go over the top with PVA glue to protect the paper. Then put them under the tree every year.

Same here Decoupage isn’t difficult, you could practice with some other wrapping paper, some really lovely ideas Also sorry for your loss💐

Thanks so much. She loved Christmas, she was the maker of magic and instigator of shenanigans! On Christmas Eve she always settled us down clutching our freshly ironed pillow cases and read us a copy of a Night Before Christmas under the multicoloured lights of a huge real Christmas tree (we had a small house - it was much, much too big really!). The book was from the 1950s. Our book is long since lost but in July I found a copy in the States and bought it (took 7 weeks to get here) and on Christmas Eve I am going to give it to my brother, wrapped in a Christmas box, tied with a ribbon. I love Christmas too 😆

Oh my that has brought a tear to my eye, how lovely 🥰

Reallybadidea · 28/11/2021 14:44

@M0rT

I was just going to say frame them as Christmas decorations when pp beat me to it! A friend keeps photos of childhood Christmases in frames that she brings out at Christmas, I'm going to copy her some year. Looks brilliant and is particularly lovely to feel you are still including people who have gone.
Thank you so much for posting this! It's inspired me to make a collage of xmas photos from my mum's albums and mine to give her as a Christmas present. I think she's going to love it!
Wren77 · 28/11/2021 14:45

Paper chains.

Glue into card to make Christmas card holder /place names

Laminate some for placemats.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 28/11/2021 15:09

Wow that paper is so lovely and reminds me of my childhood Christmases as well, and I am pretty sure my mum still has some of this stashed away!

Some really lovely ideas here. I’m sure you’ll find a way to use it and remember your mum OP. She sounds lovely!

Misspacorabanne · 28/11/2021 15:28

Oh I love them op!!! Memories!
I'd frame them!
And put them on your wall at Xmas!!! Smile

BrizzleMaverick · 30/11/2021 09:20

Could you stick it to some cardboard and then laminate it and use as Christmas place mats?

Sn0tnose · 30/11/2021 09:31

I love the bauble idea that someone had. Mod Podge would be perfect for going over the top of it to ensure it didn’t tear.

lupad · 30/11/2021 09:41

They are so lovely & evocative of my childhood.

lupad · 30/11/2021 09:42

I would frame them too
