This made me so mad, I've spent most of this week searching the town/internet for anywhere that might still have Nintendo DS's in stock. It's all ds has been after, he wanted one last year too, and this year I thought I'd splash out and get him what he really wants. After finally today admitting defeat I thought I'd give ebay a quick look, although I knew the prices on there would be ridiculous, then I find so many sellers like this one:

search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZmaztaster

It's made me so mad, people bulk buying the popular toys and selling them on for huge profits It's so mean spirited and selfish, like sod everyone else at christmas time, all those people out there who are desperately searching and all the shops are out of stock mainly because of people like this.

Well, that's capitalism for you.

It's a good business decision he's made, anyway.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 16/12/2007 15:26

i started a similar thread the other week about a doll i was getting for dd3.

makes me so

this is the 3rd year now that nintendo ds' have been v v v hard to get. dd1 ended up getting hers for her birthday almost 3years ago (after xmas), i got dd2 one last year =at the beginning of october as i thought they may be hard to get again. cant belvie its 3 years in a row.

lazawreath · 16/12/2007 15:26

my goodness, i sold mine a few weeks ago and got £75 for it. Maybe I should have hung on!
Mind you I bought mine last year for £99 with a game so I got back pretty much what i paid for it.

ForcesSweetheart · 16/12/2007 15:33

Why be mad at him? He's not the one deciding how much they sell for, he's starting them at 9.99 by the looks of it, and if people choose to bid them up to riidiculous prices that's hardly his fault. Could see the point if he had them on Buy It Now at an inflated price, but the fact is it's the customers deciding how much profit he makes on them.

Oblomov · 16/12/2007 15:38

Sorry Seashell, but it is good business sense.
Last year we saw Wiis for ... can't remmeber price, but they were well cheap.
We could have bought 10
And could have sold them for a £200 profit, each.
Silly us.
If you can do, it makes sense.
Economics = supply and demand.

staryeyed · 16/12/2007 15:45

But he has created the artificial demand for the computer by bulk buying when people want for Christmas. If he had marked up the price for a buy it now to make a fair profit then ok but that is pure greed and playing on parents desire to please their children with the right present. Now parents who cant afford will be borrowing to buy and those who dont will disappoint their children. It stinks. I posted similar about concert tickets.

Oblomov · 16/12/2007 15:47

It is rotten, but it is what is done in business. By both the little men and huge corporations.

tissy · 16/12/2007 15:50

I got one from yesasia.com on np's recommendation, it arrived within a week. Worth a try! Same price as UK, with an adaptor for the charger, and included free delivery from Hong Kong

I bought Nintento DS in November - this happens every year...it's simple economics - supply v demand

As long as people are stupid enough to pay, then others will be wise enough to provide.

Oblomov · 16/12/2007 16:01

I agree witht the others. If your ds was so desperate for one last christmas, why did you not buy one in Feb, or April, or sept or .......

SleighlyMadSanta · 16/12/2007 16:03

But that guy might be an independant toy shop that is part of hte supply chain 365 days a year...

might being hte operative word there though

Oblomov · 16/12/2007 16:04

Starry, I don't think it was him, that has created this false supply and demand.
Toys selling out at Christmas has been going on for decades.
It was Sindy, Doctor Who (the first time around),Tiny Tears.
It happens EVER YEAR.

Sorry, didn't mean to send that as a link

SeaShells · 16/12/2007 16:30

It's brill business sense and a great way to make some money. Just in an ideal world obviously, everyone would only take their share and let everyone else get theirs and then there'd be plenty to go round and parents wouldn't be having to pay ridiculous prices.
I know I left it really late, I've been lucky enough to have kids who have never asked for the 'top toys' until now, this year I've had my first exerience of it and I didn't imagine it to be so ruthless tbh. Ah well, we live and learn, think I'll start saving up for some bulk buying next year

someone told me the additions book has them in stock.

GreebosWhiskers · 16/12/2007 16:30

I agree it's unfair but if you had a hard time getting it last year why didn't you buy it earlier - in the summer - when they were in the shops & not going for such mad prices?

ItCameUponAMidnightClara · 16/12/2007 16:34

Christmas is 25th December every year. I'm not the most organised of people but still baffled when people are disappointed that things are out of stock at this time.

ItCameUponAMidnightClara · 16/12/2007 16:35

though, keep an eye on those auctions, most seem to end in the next 3 hours and not with stupid prices either - the ebay capitalist might be your route to a bargain.

Oblomov · 16/12/2007 16:46

Besides E-bay on a sunday night is the worst for buying.
