Have I understood this right? Does FC bring ALL the presents to some people's houses?

So that on Christmas morning, not only the stockings, but everything under the tree is from him? Even the strangely shaped orange cardigan that Great Aunt Gloria knitted and wraped in a carefully ironed piece of last year's wrapping paper?

Surely I've misunderstood.

Stockings and some presents downstairs are from him. Others are brought by uncles, aunts and grandparents and it's obvious that they bought those.

Mine know that FC brings them some stuff off their list and fills their stocking and that family also buy them gifts.

SleighlyMadSanta · 16/12/2007 13:32

Some people do that...not here though. We already have pressies under the tree which grandma brought for them yesterday. They just hve to wait for Santa to bring the big haul

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 16/12/2007 13:35

we used to see relatives on xmas eve when I was little - who gave presents to us.
On christmas morning all these presents, along with stocking type presents and the main present from my parents were magically in the same pillowcase at the bottom of our bed.
I don't think that the stocking presents or the main present was labels, but all the other retained the label from the relative they were from.
I never questioned this at all - but I knew who they were from and wrote thank you letters accordingly.

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 16/12/2007 13:36

now you see Santa is a kind Santa and even if Aunty Bobbie makes or buys a pressie Santa delivers it with the magic ones that Santa just knows you would like!

My kids dont look on the labels passed their own names anyway

RudolphtherednoseEANDHdeer · 16/12/2007 13:37

mine have stockings from FC and the 1 or 2main presents from us and then presents from relatives (these are done later in the ay or on boxing day)

Niecie · 16/12/2007 13:41

If individuals have bought my DSs presents then they are from them. All the 'magically' appearing stuff used to be from FC but now we are holding back a couple of pressies that we have bought to give to the boys from us. So FC gives them a couple of big presents and the stocking.

I know some parents say all the presents they have bought are from FC (my parents did that and it seems more common back then) but I have never heard of anybody taking labels off family presents and say they are from FC too. That would be a bit odd imo.

edam · 16/12/2007 13:44

presents from relatives/family friends are from them and they are thanked individually. Everthing in the stocking and under the tree not otherwise labelled is from FC.

BroccoliSpears · 16/12/2007 13:54

So, for those families whose stockings and main presents are from FC, do Mum and Dad give the children something as well?

merrylissiemas · 16/12/2007 14:08

santa gives the stocking presents and looks after the others for us. but jack frost brings a book and pyjama's on xmas eve

stripeymama · 16/12/2007 14:13

Santa only ever brings what's in the stocking - I'd never heard of the whole Santa-brings-everything idea til quite recently.

BroccoliSpears · 16/12/2007 14:17

No, I hadn't either Stripeymama, which is why I had to ask. In our family he brings a stocking and that's all. Interesting to hear what others do.

I don't see why Santa should get all the glory!!

And I like the way that stocking presents have to be small special things - it adds to the magic IMO.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/12/2007 14:21

I think it's odd if FC brings everything because then friends & family look mean!

And it would be even weirder for children who helped buy or wrap presents for other people - they'd spend all of Christmas Day thinking "well I gave you a Boots Epilater, so what have you got me then beardy Auntie Derek?".

Disclaimer: DoNB does know that you don't give to receive.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 14:22

santa gives stockings, I had to explain to dp in code at the dinnertable the other day how his grandparents did not give vouchers to us from santa, but that they bought them with their own money because they love the kids and that DC's should say thankyou to them and not santa!

Niecie · 16/12/2007 14:23

So do your children not do a letter to FC asking for things? Ours wouldn't do it if they thought he was only going to bring the stocking stuff and DS1 needs the handwriting practice.

systemsaddict · 16/12/2007 14:23

Santa only brought stocking presents for us as kids, everything else was from people - so I made a terrible faux pas with my nephew last Christmas mentioning who his presents had come from. Everyone there was appalled - "Sssshh they're from Santa!" Don't know how I feel about that tbh, if we spent ages choosing a present I'd rather child knew it came from us!

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 16/12/2007 14:26

Mine do letters to santa, to ask for what they want in their stockings, but they know santa has to do all the children in the world so he doesn't give huge presents.
DD this year asked for some make-up, a picture of santa and some chocolate, DS overheard her and asked for a picture of a snowman and a board

stripeymama · 16/12/2007 14:28

DD writes a note to FC on Christmas Eve and we put it up the chimney, but she knows that FC only brings small things. Things that fit in a stocking in fact!

gingermumi · 16/12/2007 14:33

We too have tree gifts and stocking pressies that FC brings (it's the same way it was done for me - and still is ). Incidentally my kids are 16 and 19 and we still go through the whole leaviing out stockings and sectrly filling them before they wake(/sober) up! Am about to have number 3 so i guess it's going to be a never ending tradition in our family!

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 16/12/2007 14:34

In our house Santa brings stockings and some other presents in a sack. Then under the tree is presents from us, GPs, aunt and uncles etc.

gingermumi · 16/12/2007 14:36

Just re-read that and what I meant was that kids have a stocking from Santa, everything else is from us or family!

dyzzidi · 16/12/2007 14:39

A bit complicated but dd is Nearly 2 and i am going off what my parents said.

Presents from family etc are under the tree from whoever bropught them. Father Christmas brings his gifts and decides if you have been good enough that year. If you have he lets you keep the gifts off the family aswell as his gifts. I believe if you had been very naughty he would take them away for children who had been good.

Thankyous etc could then be given to family members, letters etc could ALSO be sent for Father Christmas and everyone is happy.

My god I am nearly 30 and can't believe I have got to start all this.

mumeeee · 16/12/2007 17:45

When my chiden were smal they did do a leter to Father Christmas and they knew he only bought stocking suff ( well actually a Father Christmas Bag). So they only asked for small things. They are now 20,18 and 15 and still do stockings!

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 16/12/2007 17:49

Not here. The boys have each got a santa sock on the wall and father christmas will fill those with his gifts (can anyone say Cheap Plastic Tat ). Gifts from me & dh will go under the tree on christmas eve, after they're in bed. Gifts from other family members are handed to boys directly, most on Christmas Day.
