Here's our new thread!

I'm having such problems with the site, please could someone post a link to the old thread for me?

I just wanted to pop back to say that I'm still here but life got in the way somewhat and I had to read 16th to 23rd December in one go. I will definitely still be here into the New Year and enjoying some more down time after the craziness of Christmas has passed (DDs are 4 and 2 and SO EXCITED.)

Wishing you all a very happy and hopefully peaceful Christmas.

Dillidilly · 24/12/2021 18:13

I need to be thanking all of you who have posted and contributed and made these threads so lovely! ❤
Nigel finishes his Christmas Chronicles on 2 February I believe, so I will post to the end.

This week I managed to make my wreath on Nigel's Wreath-Making Day, and I've just made my traditional Christmas Eve fish pie which is waiting to go in the oven.

I'm sure we will all be so busy tomorrow, so may I wish all of you are Reading Along a very, very Merry Christmas!

Another thank you all from me, I haven't felt very Christmassy at times this winter it's fair to say, but it's been lovely coming back to this thread every few days and spotting all the associated things while out and about (pannetone in an Italian deli, a Christmas market, wreaths (I went to a wreath-making workshop this year), Christmas window displays). I'm still a bit behind on the book but nearly caught up, just about to start the 23rd (blue cheese).

Merry Christmas to you all Xmas Smile

Geamhradh · 25/12/2021 08:34

A wonderful Christmas to all of you from me too
Thank you @Dillidilly for creating this wonderful haven of peace and tranquility in a little corner of the internet, and thank you to everyone for contributing.

Strawberryfield12 · 25/12/2021 13:02

Merry Christmas everyone! I will also be here until the glorious end 🙂

Look what I got for Christmas!

Just eating our Nigel recipe Christmas pud in front of the telly sshhh

LillianGish · 25/12/2021 19:48

Merry Christmas to all. I am beyond excited that DH not only bought me Nigel's new book for Christmas, but also his Cire Trudon candle recommendation - Carmelite. Ridiculously extravagant, but more significant that he'd actually noticed me taking an interest in it as I thought he'd just thought I was slightly bonkers. He said I could read the book while smelling the candle.

Watching Robin Hood (quite an achievement for Errol Flynn to look so dashing in green tights) just before Christmas supper

ChessieFL · 27/12/2021 10:41

Hello all. I was lucky enough to get this for Christmas. I’m trying to decide whether to read along with you for the end of December and January, and then come back to the beginning in October, or just wait and read it all next year (hopefully there will be another readalong thread next year). I’ve read through this year’s threads and it sounds like a lovely book.

LillianGish · 27/12/2021 10:52

Welcome @ChessieFL! If I were you, I would read the intro then start from today's date - all the entries are individual for a particular day. Then we can all hopefully start again next year (I love this thread Xmas Smile)

Geamhradh · 27/12/2021 11:31

Morning @ChessieFL
It's me, Sol. Xmas Smile
@LillianGish, how wonderful!

I've started my holiday scorching hot bath (Lush Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds/Badedas) and book routine. Bliss.

27 DECEMBER - 1 JANUARY

I have read the introduction and the entries for 26th and 27th.

We had turkey crown on Christmas Day so no carcass to make stock with (not that I would make stock if I did have a carcass!). The cheesy biscuits sound nice.

I’m not really a winter fan but the intro makes it all sound so lovely! Shame the reality is heavy rain like we’ve had for the past three days, so everything is just wet and depressing rather than cold and invigorating.

ChessieFL · 28/12/2021 08:21

Very short, but lovely, entry today! I would love to have a special reading chair but our house isn’t big enough so I have to make do with the sofa or the bed.

I have been reading the candle chat and am trying to channel my inner Nigel by reading with my Christmas tree candle holder lit.

Merry Christmas Nigellas! @LillianGish you lucky thing and clever DH!

We had a lovely Christmas but I had a horrible cold on Boxing Day so just catching up now. I really love that the book goes past Christmas into the tougher days of Jan and Feb, please can we keep going?

mamakoukla · 29/12/2021 05:26

Thank you so much for these two joyous threads! I received a copy of the book for Christmas and hope to see you all next year, and to be able to join in. All the best for 2022 xxx

Dillidilly · 29/12/2021 20:09

@GoGoGretaDoll, we are keeping going to the end!

Today I made the pudding from 28 December and used apricots from brandy we all made at the beginning of the thread. We ate it with vanilla custard and it was lush. Have also made pork and bacon terrine, it’s now chilling in the fridge. Not quite sure about it being for two, there’s loads of it!

StormyCornishSeas · 30/12/2021 21:05

Hello all. Merry Christmas hope everyone has had a lovely time. I've finally caught up although must admit I did skin read the recipes reading about food when I've had enough to eat until the middle of January is a bit Envy. Although I loved all the pictures and want to give the cheese biscuits a go.

Dillidilly · 01/01/2022 13:08

Happy New Year!!

ChessieFL · 01/01/2022 15:14

Happy New Year! I had soup and bread for lunch today like Nigel - but my bread was white sliced with normal butter not his home-made fancy bread! The soup was home-made though (by DH though, not me).

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 01/01/2022 17:28

I've just settled down on the couch with tea and Nigel. The soup and bread sounds lovely I might make the lentil one I usually do lentil and butternut bit adding chilli could be good.

My mum makes a wonderful sweet potato coconut and chilli soup.

Might have soup tomorrow for lunch, I'm recovering from covid so not very hungry. We have some spinach and courgette muffins in the freezer might get those out to have with it
