Small bits for colleagues

Suprima · 17/11/2021 20:37

Want to spend £10-15 on my immediate colleagues!

Women in their twenties/early thirties who are appreciative of booze and stereotypical trappings of femininity (beauty bits, bath stuff)

Has anyone bought any nice token gifts?

I was thinking a molten brown bauble if they are doing them this year

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/11/2021 20:46

I'd say a decent bottle of wine, or a workaday bottle of spirits.

I do think a lot of the other shorts of gifts you mention end up contributing to landfill, as people tend to have their own specific tastes.

TorySteller · 17/11/2021 20:54

I’m your target audience Grin and I would definitely appreciate a Molton Brown bauble!

Other ideas:
Their favourite alcohol miniatures
Nice chocolates
A voucher for Costa etc

WhatonEarth1 · 18/11/2021 06:15

I’m getting these www.boots.com/christmas-3-for-2/the-white-collection-mini-candle-set-10298369

actiongirl1978 · 18/11/2021 06:20

Last year someone gave me a gin set - pink gin, a bottle of tonic water.

The tonic water was Schweppes and 'full fat' which I don't like the taste of (and I drink fever tree anyway) and the pink gin was revolting and went down the sink.

I can't stand toiletries that smell for ages on my skin such as Molton brown.

So my point is you shod be careful or stuff will end up in landfill as per PP

BarbaraofSeville · 18/11/2021 06:22

If they're 'appreciative of booze' I'd also go for the nice wine/average spirits.

In past years Waitrose have done a £10 offer at around this time of year with a selection of their nicer wines for £10 instead of £15 or so, I got Bird in the Hand fizz last year, which is normally £16/17.

Or look for an offer on a slightly nicer gin, rum etc as appropriate, you might get something for £15 that's normally in the low £20s.

I wouldn't want candles, toiletries, Boots 3 for 2s etc.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/11/2021 06:26

i like a Christmas cactus

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/11/2021 06:32

if they are in their 20s perhaps a candle/booze

They are my friends too and I know what products they like and what they drink Smile

If you know what products they like and what they drink, what are you asking…?

“Token” gifts as pp have pointed out smack of tat that costs energy to produce and transport, packaging, contents ends up in landfill, etc. Just pointless.

WaterBottle123 · 18/11/2021 07:13

Previous posters are right, token gifts really just contribute to landfill or waste.

Buy them lunch at a local independent restaurant instead.

….because I’m looking for ideas? Or good offers? What an odd question. Hmm People can suggest and I can say yay or dismiss.

This is the Christmas section, not chat or ‘AIBU to get my colleagues a pressie?’

I know they will drink booze, I know they will use a variety of beauty and bath products (all consumable things….and I’m happy to shop small)- why is why I said it in my post. Posters wading in to say ‘well I don’t like booze’ and ‘I wouldn’t use random products’ are pretty unhelpful but I get their sentiment.

Thanks for everyone who has given me some nice suggestions so far, particularly the on-sale Waitrose fizz!

I like the coffee voucher idea.

SageRosemary · 18/11/2021 11:46

Favourite gift I received from a work colleague was a Clarins shower gel.

A Shea shower gel from L'Occitane would be lovely too. Store will wrap it nicely for you too.

These scents are very neutral, unlikely to offend anyone.

I'm not in UK so not sure if these will fall into your price range.

Sadik · 18/11/2021 12:06

If you have anywhere near you that sells Wild Thing prosecco it's really delicious, comes in a nice bottle with a clip-top that can then be used as a water bottle on the table (but can always just go in the glass recycling as per other bottles if you don't want to), and if they don't like prosecco everyone goes to parties over Christmas where it'll be appreciated! Usually about £12 or so.
My other go to would be really nice bamboo or wool socks (with a fun pattern if they'd like that), I've never met anyone who can't use a good pair of comfortable socks, (& socks wear out so definitely not a useless tat thing).

Sadik · 18/11/2021 12:09

Am I the only one who loves token gifts? Give me a box of chocs / bottle of fizz / pair of socks / box of biscuits / CD / paperback book & I'll be very happy and grateful. It's the big presents where there's much more scope to go wrong IME.

(I read a lot in most genres & listen to a wide variety of music, obviously I wouldn't buy a book / CD for someone where that wasn't the case!)

TwinklyBranch · 18/11/2021 12:12

Just get a big box of chocolates to take into work. Madness to spend that much on colleagues!

londonmummy1966 · 18/11/2021 12:42

I tend to go for wine at this budget as it is usually possible to buy a bottle of wine in Waitrose for £15 that is usually £20 and not everyone would tend to spend £20 on a bottle for themselves.

Mumsnut · 18/11/2021 12:44

A hot water bottle ina fleecy cover. Everyone needs one sometime

user1471462115 · 18/11/2021 17:27

Please don’t buy me anything, I don’t want anything and am not buying you anything in return.

I have very specific likes and dislikes in food and wine. And you will have no idea as I have never mentioned them at work. So will give your gift to me to the food bank.

I don’t want baubles as I only like ones I have chosen for myself, that fit my themes of eco and green and biodegradable

I only wear natural fabrics that are ethically sourced.

Please don’t buy me anything

From a potential colleague

Bananaman123 · 18/11/2021 21:24

I would love a molton brown bauble! Any alcohol or chocs would go in the bin.

My managers for many years knew I didn't drink but still gave me alcohol at christmas, really passed me off, I'd rather get nothing

Thanks for taking the time to write this post, but if you would have read any of mine- it’s not exactly relevant.

They are my dear friends as well as my colleagues. We socialise outside work. We always exchange gifts for each other around this price point.

As I said to another poster, I’m on this thread for ideas and good offers as I am on a budget this year!

I love the Molton brown baubles, their hand creams are also lovely, Laura mercier hand cream or a luxury candle such as the white company. Or woodwick candles (part of the boots 3 for 2 promo) x

Crumblinginside · 18/11/2021 23:56

What about a bottle of Baileys, some coffee and little chocolates (I love a baileys coffee)

Nice water bottle

Perfume decanter (lipstick sized)

Book - eg Postitive Thinking (recently bought a lovely one)

Crumblinginside · 18/11/2021 23:57

Or take a browse in tkmaxx - some beautiful candles and toiletries!

Hairyfriend · 19/11/2021 00:20

How many colleagues are you buying for? Do you have any boots/nectar/tesco type points? They all have various offers to double/triple points.

  • If its 6 or more, wait until supermarkets have their 25% off offers, for 6 or more bottles and buy a nice bottle for each. Or keep extras for yourself/use over Christmas.

-Earrings? I got some in a secret santa 6yrs ago I still wear them often

  • Selection of lush products
  • Scarf
  • Bottle opening set/ fancy corkscrew
  • Re-usable, decorative cork
  • Carafe
  • House plant

I used to like household smellies, but after having fertility issues, and reading about household fragrances, I no long use or buy these. Obviously, you know your colleagues/friends best, but you are all prime age for this to be a consideration for some- even if they haven't told you.
