Teen girls’ stockings

What are you putting in yours?

Do you try and do different each year or similar things?

I want to get things that will actually be used, I’m pretty sure they still have unused lip balms/body sprays etc. Then friends buy them toiletries for birthdays, we have so much!

Hit me with some ideas please!

I've never given candles a second thought. They are older though.

BlackAlys · 13/11/2021 08:07

Much of what's listed above (not all at once).

I agree that novelty lip balms are a hoarders dream - never used. Instead I buy one really effective one. Last year they both had a ton of tinted Vaseline that went down well and was used by March.

I stuff the bottom of my stocking with 2 satsumas and a handful of Lindt balls and Ferraro Roches. Tradition, innit.

BlackAlys · 13/11/2021 08:08

Tin!! Not ton!

IggyAce · 13/11/2021 08:09

DD 15 will probably have the following:
Terrys chocolate orange (tradition)
Chocolate coins
Bath bomb
Body spray
Scratch art
Pud in a mug mix
Pen
Starbucks gift card
Socks

I intend to keep them the same now they are older and usually fill with useful things.
Some of her other gifts that would fit in a stocking: Joma Bracelet, Uno, hair bobbles (these are in her diy advent calendar).

Pippi1970 · 13/11/2021 08:10

Nail varnish!

RovenderKitt · 13/11/2021 09:49

DDs 12 and 15:
Shampoo bar
Conditioner bar
Small game
Sweets
Cooking/ baking treat, cookie making set perhaps
Highlighters
Bath fizzers
Small fluffy Hedwig
Books, books, books!

Would never dream of giving them candles either but DH is a firefighter

ancientgran · 13/11/2021 09:57

@Underthestairsbears

DD nearly 13 is having: Anklet Indie style ring Incense sticks Oreo selection box (if it fits) Make up Friends game Bisto (don't ask!)
I was in The Range yesterday and saw a Christmas Bisto gift, it was a boxed gravy boat with Bisto on the side and a tub of Bisto. I thought, "Who'd buy someone Bisto for Christmas?" and now I know.Grin

@GreenGlassGlisten

And I would never give a child or teen candles . Ever
Really? I was a married woman with a morgage and a toddler when I was still a teenager. The idea that someone would have thought it inappropriate to let me loose with a candle is quite funny.
RoyKentsHairyBack · 13/11/2021 10:16

So far we have

Novelty earrings (zips, avocados)
Dd1 will get nail varnish and lip balm
Hair scrunchies/ties
Dd2 will get something small Spurs themed (maybe water bottle as she forgets that at training all the time)
Shower steamer
Sweets of course
Dd1 a mug with box choc stuff in
Dd2 has a spicery curry kit
After a distinctly whiffy few days and some grade a arguments about showering- nice body spray
Novelty socks obvs

I don't buy anything that isn't needed/will be used. I used to get tat when they were tiny which with hindsight was dreadful and wasteful.

Pippi1970 · 13/11/2021 10:21

Incense sticks

MackenCheese · 13/11/2021 10:37

DD nearly 13
Chocolate orange (tradition)
Satsuma (also tradition)
Nail varnish
Candy kittens sweets
Top trumps cards
Boots moisturiser
Lip gloss
Diary
Lindt bear

Books? Cereals? Board games? How do they fit in a stocking? Are they huge stockings?

Our stockings are around a foot high and probably no more than 5 inches wide so once I've added an obligatory chocolate orange, tangerine and nuts in the toe and a tube of fruit pastilles, there's not a huge space to fill. FC brings the stockings here so never anything other than a few little useful or silly presents . Books and board games and similar always came from us. We used to put in flannels and toothbrushes and things like marbles or foam planes. Now DD is older (14), it's mostly little stationery items like quirky post it notes, funky pen, coloured glue sticks and similar. DD needs gloves so possibly some of those and a cable tidy.

slipperyeel · 13/11/2021 11:17

Stationery
Books
Pack of playing cards
Torch
Fairy lights
Diary
Calendar
Primark make up
Chocolate

ShowOfHands · 13/11/2021 11:19

I've bought 14yo DD some candles and incense cones. She's 14, not 4! She knows how to burn them safely.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 13/11/2021 11:33

@GreenGlassGlisten

Dear me . No wonder the millenials are like they are and no wonder we have so many snowflakes that havent been taught / allowed to manage risk under the same roof as their parents.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/11/2021 11:55

Mine are 22 and 19 , they have beautiful light up tapestry stockings but they hold their proper presents ( as they're usually tiny and ££)
My DS likes money ( and as there's no point spending on things "just because" I give him a funny Christmas book (like John -not his real name obvs- Santa Needs Your Help )with £10 notes inside the pages .
Or a card that says "Look at your online bank account" that we've transferred .

DD has a Beauty Advent Calendar that I make so 24 nice little presents and that will include the hair toggles , lip balms, face products .
Dec 1st and Dec 24th is a good one (I haven't bought the 24th yet)

Dec 1st Hamper with the pyjamas, underwear, sweets

DS got a tin of pencils for graphic design one year .
I used to buy them some nice colouring pens (like the Staedler ones) in school.

I bought alcohol miniatures last year for DH and DD for the table ( I don't drink and DS rarely does ) DS and I had chocolate Xmas Grin

I used to buy DD a Yankee Candle but not now -not because I don't trust DD , but FemaleCat has form for throwing things off shelves Xmas Shock

Lanique · 13/11/2021 12:03

Mine are 16 and 17. They are getting:

Primark pants, PJs, slipper socks, fluffy socks.
A haul of toiletries such as razors, dry shampoo etc.
Chocolates, sweets, a mini bottle of Prosecco and a mini Panettone.

CharlesCh1ckens · 13/11/2021 12:13

@Ericaequites so you'd happily put thongs and condoms in your teenagers stocking? I've read it all now.

I'd also never give anything that requires setting fire to basically. So candles and tea lights and joss sticks would be a no go.

I'd go for ..

Smart putty
Ramune drink
Unusual flavour pop tarts
Glossier make up bits
Fiddle rings
Japanese sweets or Japanese Kit Kat flavour pack
Nike socks
M&S cake jar
Mini hot water bottle

PAFMO · 13/11/2021 12:22

Candles (it's ok, ta, we're not complete imbeciles and know how to use them)
Soap
Bath bomb
Lip balm
USB stick
Pens and notebook
Photos I've had printed
A tree bauble

Pippi1970 · 13/11/2021 12:25

My dd19 likes thongs so she is getting thongs in her stocking. M and S sell them, they are perfectly legitimate pants!

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/11/2021 12:40

Some great ideas, thank you.

Strange twist re candles! My older 2 (18 and 20) like candles in their rooms but they use them safely.

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 13/11/2021 12:40

Chocolate orange
Knickers
Pyjamas (not Christmas themed)
Camisole/vest tops
Sweeties
Face packs
Bath bombs
Flavoured lip balm
Stationery
Silly game of some sort
Oddments from shops like Tiger

Ericaequites · 13/11/2021 13:01

They are regulat bikini underpants, most definitely not thongs. As for condoms, I’d much rather 16+ were using condoms than having unprotected sex. Hormonal birth control never agreed with me; it’s best not to fool with Mother Nature.

CharlesCh1ckens · 13/11/2021 13:05

@Ericaequites couldn't agree more. But it's not your job as a parent to give condoms as a Xmas gift. That strays into weirdly overstepping. It's your job to have discussed safe sex with them - not be some sort of condom dispenser.

CharlesCh1ckens · 13/11/2021 13:06

@Pippi1970 yes yes I know that. That wasn't my point. It was more the pants and condoms together from another poster that was making me go ewww
