What meals or snacks do you love over the Christmas period, apart from the actual Christmas Dinner?

For me it is:

Ham, egg and chips on Xmas eve
Homemade sausage roll wreath on boxing day or between Xmas and New year at some point
Boxing day sandwich with leftovers
Posh cheese with chutney and port
Home made sugar biscuits (make with ds and hang on the tree)
Mulled wine
M&S Irish cream truffles - buy myself a box every year!

Turkey cobbler
Fry up with bubble and squeak for roast leftovers, pigs in blankets etc

Hetyanni · 10/11/2021 06:57

God I love pigs in blankets. They should really be a thing all year round.

We always get a chippy on Christmas Eve (because we weren't allowed in the kitchen after all the Christmas preparations had been done). So that was something to look forward to. Also Jacobs Cornish wafer crackers. I only ever eat then at Christmas otherwise I'd eat them all the time and be as big as a house we they're mainly butter so I'm excited for them!

Rememberallball · 10/11/2021 13:45

We always had cold meats (turkey, gammon or beef) with mash and veg with pickle or piccalilli on Boxing Day.

We would also have turkey supreme (leftover turkey with peas & sweetcorn and onions in a white sauce, served with rice. If you were unlucky you ended up with a bit of bone

languagelover96 · 10/11/2021 14:21

Mince pies
Sausage rolls
Fruit cake
Cheese board or fruit and cheese platter
Cold cuts of meat
Crackers or biscuits
Chocolates and sweets
Wine
Candy canes

BiddyPop · 10/11/2021 15:17

Proper cheeseboard - we are only 3 in this house so it doesn't make sense the rest of the year, but I get about 4 or 5 nice pieces to go through over the season.

Mulled wine - I have my own recipe of spices, and do it on Boxing Day.

Ham and stilton potato gratin - uses up leftovers, incl turkey stock, and tastes delish, but is a very special "once a year" meal

Spiced beef

Mince pies

DM's plum pudding

Hetyanni · 10/11/2021 16:00

Mmmmm getting hungry!

I freeze pigs in blankets for whenever someone wants them. DD would eat Xmas pudding all year round (and does). I make 2 of my veggie main courses and freeze one to have in July.

We don’t do roast dinners so have a Xmas dinner whenever we want one. I don’t know why it hasn’t caught on as a thing. (The only think I like about Xmas is the food. 🤤)

If you like Disaronno Amaretto, try the new creamy one (Disaronno Velvet) www.delish.com/uk/cocktails-drinks/a32298998/disaronno-velvet-cream-liqueur/

MrsPnut · 10/11/2021 17:08

Leftover pigs in blankets dipped in leftover bread sauce, eaten whilst standing with the fridge door open.

Chinese on Christmas Eve always as my kitchen closes mid afternoon until Christmas Day.

I have already ordered my cheese from The Cheese Society and am thinking about the leftover beef sandwiches I am going to make with fried cheese and onions.

This looks good, do you drink it on its own? Like Baileys?

Is The Cheese Society good? I was thinking of going to a food market for my cheese this year but ordering online does appeal...

Cheese board & cured meats
Homemade Santa cookies (oat, cranberry & white chocolate)
Cheeselets
Homemade mince pies with extra thick spooning cream.
We usually have a take away on Christmas Eve.

HeyupitsChristmas · 10/11/2021 18:17

As long as I can have a pork pie topped with cranberries at some point I'm happy.

Oh and a huge tin of Quality Street

MrsPnut · 10/11/2021 18:28

@Hetyanni I like it, we do pick it up though as we live not that far away. Their cafe is awesome.

MrsPnut · 10/11/2021 18:30

This is my absolute favourite cheese ever, www.thecheesesociety.co.uk/product/delice-de-bourgogne/

When DM was alive she always made a gammon joint on Christmas Eve and we would have it with pease pudding, cheese, crusty bread, pickles, etc while playing board games and drinking Buck's Fizz.
On Boxing Day she would make turkey left over pie or turkey, proper chips and gravy.

DH and I have the tradition of party food tea on Christmas Eve after SIL's christingle service, with french martinis for me and gin and tonic for DH.
Christmas morning breakfast is always a huge mug of tea during present opening, then croissants with Buck's Fizz.
Boxing Day is usually turkey, chips and gravy for lunch or dinner (depending what time the football match is on that DH will be going to)
I always have a Christmas tree shaped bowl full of chocolates on the hall table from the start of December to pick at.

There will be no alcohol for me this year as I'll be 5 months pregnant, so I'm planning to replace the alcohol with lots of food! Grin

MissyB1 · 10/11/2021 19:14

Mince pies (I have an addiction) Grin
Christmas cake
M&S shortbread
Cheese with apple and grapes
Chocolate covered Brazil nuts

maofteens · 10/11/2021 19:18

Egg nog - sooo yummy but I'm not into making it and wish I could buy it in cartons like in the US.
I like the party platters Tesco and the like sells - don't need to be having a party to enjoy those!

Hetyanni · 10/11/2021 19:19

After Eights Grin
